Chapter 1444
Ida adjusted her gold-rimmed glasses and responded with a steady tone. âVeronica mentioned that
the boss ran into Sophia while picking up the kid today.â
Chase's expression faltered. âWhen did she return? Our guys didn't even notice.â
Ida squinted thoughtfully. âClearly, sheâs been aware of our surveillance over the years. She's good
at avoiding detection. Considering her familyâs influence in M State, it's entirely possible she slipped
past us to return home. Furthermore, according to Veronica, Sophia claimed to be married and was
carrying a child. Veronica came to us to investigate the identity of Sophia's so-called husband.â
Chase took a seat opposite Ida. âShe married without a noise? We've been watching her, but there's
never been any man around her. Could it be...?"
Ida knew what Chase was suspecting. âWe can't jump to conclusions yet. Have someone check out
which hotel Sophia is staying at, her husband's background, and the purpose of her return.â
Chase gestured an OK sign. âLeave it to me.â
He then stood up to make a call. A few minutes later, he returned, saying, âFound it. Sophia and her
family are staying at the Greenhaven Hotel in the city center. She's also brought along Thaddeus's
most professional bodyguards. There were about a dozen men.â
Ida raised an eyebrow. âAny leads on her husband's identity?â
Chase shook his head. âNothing useful yet. Just a name: Marcus.â
After hearing that Sophia's husband was named Marcus, a hint of disappointment flashed in Ida's
eyes.
Chase continued. âAnother reliable piece of information. Thaddeus is probably going to retire soon
He's preparing to hand over the familyâs conglomerate to his daughter, Sophia. Sophia is willing to
take over her father's company. This return is to liquidate some assets here, abandon the market
here, and never come back.â
Ida was suspicious. The market here had great potential for development, but Sophia was going to
sell it all.
Greenhaven Hotel.
The man took a bath for about an hour.
With his disability, it took most of his strength and time to get out of the bathtub and dress
himself.
He sat back in his wheelchair, roughly dried his hair, and then opened the door to exit the
bathroom
Sophia had already fed and put Tristan to sleep.
She frowned slightly in disappointment after noticing that he had tidied himself up.
âMarcus, I know you're self-conscious about your disability, but we're married. I won't despise you.
You bathing alone is dangerous. You donât need to avoid me like this. Let me take care of you.â
The man's hand rested on the wheelchair wheel as he moved to the side of the bed, and his deep
gaze fell on his sleeping son. âI just don't want to be a burden to others.â
Sophia couldn't hide her sadness, and her voice raised slightly. âI'm not othersâ to you. Your
concerns are not a burden to me!â
The sleeping child on the bed furrowed his brows, seemingly disturbed by the noise
The man frowned and raised a finger to his lips, signaling her to be quiet.
At the same time, he reached out a large hand, gently patting his son's body, reassuring him to
continue sleeping
The child's eyebrows gradually relaxed, his breathing evened out, and he fell into a deep sleep.
