Chapter 1262
Belinda returned to her seat, exasperated. âYou're really pushing it, you know?â
Chase just smiled, unfazed by her words.
âEnjoy your meal.â He said in a soft voice.
Waiters started to bring in plated delicacies.
Belinda could barely taste the food. She was too preoccupied thinking about how she would explain
all this to Jacob when he arrived.
The restaurant was only a short distance from the Crescent Society, so Jacob arrived in about fifteen
minutes.
He walked in with a smile, but it stiffened when he noticed his boss, Chase, in the room with his
girlfriend, Belinda.
âBelinda, are you having a candlelit dinner with Mr. Larios?â He asked as he looked between the
two.
Belinda let out an awkward laugh. âUm, there are candles, yes, but it's not a candlelit dinner. We just
happened to be having meal together. Come sit, Jacob! Sit here! Order anything you want; Mr.
Larios is picking up the tab.â
She patted the chair beside her invitingly.
Jacob trusted Belinda, but being in close proximity to his boss was a bit unnerving. He gave a small
bow of respect. âMr. Larios, thank you for your generosity.â
Only then did he pull out the chair and sit down.
Chase continued to cut his steak, all smiles. âI heard you were taking some time off for family
matters.â
Jacob tensed. âMr. Larios, I..."
In his mind, he wondered if anything could be more embarrassing than lying to take a day off and
being caught in the act by your boss.
Seeing his discomfort, Belinda quickly stepped in. âYes! Girlfriends count as family, don't they? It's
perfectly normal for him to take a day off for me!â
Chase looked at the couple, then chuckled. âOf course, it's perfectly normal.â
To get back at Chase, Belinda called over a waiter and ordered the most expensive dish on the
menu. She was determined to make him literally pay for his actions.
Jacob tried to stop her, but Belinda insisted on ordering the priciest dish.
When the food arrived, Jacob cut a piece of steak, blew on it to cool it down, and then offered it to
Belinda. âBelinda, you try it first.â
She was a little embarrassed, but she didnât want to hurt Jacob's feelings by refusing. After a
moment's hesitation, she accepted the bite. âIt's delicious. You eat; donât worry about me.â
Chase didn't react, although the sound of his knife scraping against the plate was a bit jarring.
The three of them somehow managed to finish the meal.
Before leaving, Chase ordered another meal to-go.
Chase. âMr. Larios, Once they were out of the restaurant, Belinda noticed Jacob's hopeful gaze.
Feeling a bit sorry for him, she turned why don't you deliver the meal to Ellinor yourself? Jacob has
taken the day off. I want to spend some more time with him. I'll go see. Ellinor later!â
Chase squinted at her; he was clearly not pleased. Ignoring Belinda, he turned to Jacob. âJacob, if
you go back to work now, I can disregard the previous time as a lunch break, not a day off.â
At first, Jacob looked excited, but then he suddenly looked hesitant.
After glancing at his girlfriend, he made up his mind and said to his boss, âMr. Larios, I appreciate
your offer, but I've already taken the day off. If I rushed back now, my colleagues would have
finished the meeting already. I think I'll stay and spend time with my girlfriend.â
