Chapter 3: Chapter Two

I'd Wait For You (Christian romance)Words: 3939

I officially declare Atlanta as the worst traffic experience in my life. I almost got out of the car and ran to my dorm. I would have if I didn't have any luggage. Putting my keys into the door I opened it to find what I'm guessing to be my roommate's side of the bedroom neatly decorated.

I walked inside to my part of the room and immediately began unpacking.

"You must be Rachel."

I gasped and turned around to see a beautiful, stunning actually, girl in front of me. She was tall compared to me. Looked to be about 5'8 with dark orange mid-length hair and wavy curls.

"You must be Katherine," I said while holding out my hands. "Nice to meet you."

She looked at my hands before pulling me into a hug. "Nice to meet you too," she said while giggling. "Call me Kate and my gosh you are so pretty." She said taking a step back to fully look at me.

I was average. Short, African-American with long curls but because of shrinkage I always ended up with shoulder-length curls. I was always the dressy type. In my defense, j like to dress like I'm going somewhere in life ya know? My mom likes to say that I dress like I'm going to church 24/7. She's not wrong though. If I would wear an outfit to church or a church event I wouldn't wear it at all.

"My gosh if I'm pretty then you are gorgeous. Call be Rach?" I said raising my eyebrows.

She laughed "okay Rach." she looked at me and then said, "I'll stick with Rachel."

"Thank you I have no idea what I was thinking."

We both cracked up.

"Okay well, I'm gonna unpack now."

"Do you need any help?" she asked.

"No, it's okay I'll just--"

"No, it's fine I can help."

Taking a moment to ponder I said "Alright you can unpack that suitcase over there. Don't worry it's all dresses so all that needs to be done is put them in the closet."

"Okie," she said.

"So where are you from?" I asked while opening my container of shoes. I had to ship them plus two more bags of stuff over here.

"Um well, I'm from around here. Well..." she said pausing. "Well I spent my first 10 years in Vietnam and for the past nine years, I've been living here. My mom is Vietnamese and my dad is American. He went to Vietnam on a missionary trip, saw my mom, and fell for her. Literally, he fell and broke his ankle and she just happened to be there. They got married and obviously had me and they stayed there until we could all come back as a family."

"How romantic," I said in awe.

"Yeah it's pretty cool," she said proudly.

"Where are you from and now since you know my parent's love story feel free to share yours."

"I was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts. As for my parents...not nearly as romantic...my mom and my dad were in a group project and they were supposed to meet at the library and she was there for an hour until he finally showed up and let's just say he was never late again. That was the beginning of their love story."

"Okay but like that's kinda cool too. They weren't best friends or like 'oh my gosh you're my soul mate' at first. They hated each other."

"Not hated," I said while putting my last pair of shoes up. "Just disliked and frankly my mom disliked him. Dad never really had a problem with my mom."

"So when did they start dating?" she asked as I handed her the last pair of jeans.

"In junior year. They met when they were freshman so it took a while."

"High school sweethearts aww that's cute."

About an hour later everything was unpacked and set in the place they should be.

"You're very organized," Kate said

"Yeah I can't work in mess," I said laughing secretly hoping she wasn't a messy person.

"Great!" she said "we are so similar"

"We are," I said taking a few seconds to thank God for answering my prayers. Big or small, stupid or not stupid, God always came through for me. Not once has he left me or thrown me away. He's always been there even if I wasn't.
