" Hey mom, "

" Hey hi whatever so what happened what did you get?" She said getting to the point.

"Well hello how's the weather,"

"Girl don't nobody got time for your - "

"I'm his girlfriend now," I said before she could curse.

" Marcus that's a 100 bucks!" She yelled to my father.

"How?" My father replied.

"I told you within the first hours of them meeting after this break he was gonna pop the question,"

" She's engaged!" My father voice boomed through the phone.

"No, you drumstick he asked her to be his girlfriend. When we have conversations do you ever listen to me?" My mom said getting frustrated.

"Honey I do I just-"

"Just nothing," she said.

"Your father is something else you know that? From the minute I met him I knew that I'd be having to go through stuff like this," she said talking to me.

"Yet there's a ring on your finger and we have two kids,"

"Shut up. I still want my 100 dollars,"

"I can't believe you bet money on me," I cut in.

She paused for a minute before saying "Do you want me to apologize for that,"

"No"

"Good because you wasn't gonna get one anyway,"

I smiled.

"So come on baby talk to me what's going on in that beautiful mind of yours how do you feel?"

"He kind of scared me a little,"

"How so?"

"I asked him if he didn't think we were going too fast and he said something about skipping this process during the whole courting thing,"

Silence was on the other line of the phone before she said.

" Do you not want to marry him or you don't know or like...??"

"You're okay with this?" I ask shooting up from off my bed in shock.

"Honey... listen, I can't tell you how to live your life I can only do my job which is to train you in the way you should go. I did a good job if I do say so myself...we did a good job. I have two baby girls that love Jesus more than anything and you know that if you need an answer you look to Him first. Let's not forget that your grandparents got married within a week of knowing each other,"

"62 years" I whispered.

"That's right and still going strong," she said. "Honey if you've been feeling the way that you're feeling and you know it's not lust or anything else of the flesh taking over then do what you want to do,"

"Listen to your mother!" My dad said.

"Well you don't expect her to listen to you do you?"

"I want you guys to meet him," I said before they could go any further. "I'm meeting his parents this weekend,"

"Well that's great honey," my father said.

"Bro can you get out of our conversation? You've had her for 15 years all to yourself it's my turn now. She's talking to meeeee,"

"Mom be nice," I said in a warning tone.

"He put a ring on this finger hunny he knew what he was getting into,"

"She's not wrong and I would do it all over if I had to," my dad said.

"Awwwww," I said in awe.

"I love you baby," my mom said.

" and I love you," my dad replied.

" Now get out,"

"Yes ma'am,"

"So you're meeting his parents Saturday?" She asked.

"No Sunday after church,"

"Hmmm okay. Well what are you going to wear?"

" A dress,"

"No shi—"

"Mom!"

"Sorry," she mumbled. "I mean what kind of dress? What color?"

"The yellow maxi dress you and dad gifted me for my sweet 16 with my dark brown clogs,"

"Good choice," she said. "You have the matching tank top to put underneath it so no accidents happen?"

Rachel's dress

"Yes ma'am," I said.

"Girl I'm 45 years old I'm not old don't take on your father's habit,"

"Sorry mom,"

"Forgiven, "

"Can you guys fly down?"

"No your dad has a court case he's been praying for and I've got to help out with the missionaries at church over the next few weeks. You can't fly up? I thought class didn't officially start for another week or so. You guys can fly up for three days, " she recommend.

"That's a good idea but I'd have to check with Matt first, "

"Of course, just let us know. We trust you guys, "

"Thanks, mom, "

"Always honey, "

"Babyyyy!" my father yelled.

"I'm coming!" my mother yelled back.

"I know what time it is. Go feed my dad please. I'll talk to you later, " I said laughing.

"The dude can eat for days, " she said.

"Bye mom"

"Have a good night angel, "

Sunday Evening

"Are you ready sweetheart? " Matt asked.

"Gimme a second!" I said trying to buckle my shoes. I grabbed my purse, jacket, umbrella, keys, and journal. "Ready, how do I look?"

"Perfect,"  he said without hesitation.

"I can't believe I'm liking seeing you two together, " Kate said from behind me adding another yellow bow to my updo.

"I mean you are a ray of sunshine and he is...well...exactly, "

"Guys please let's not do this right now I'm already nervous, "

"Sorry you're right, " Kate said moving away from me to see if she needed to fix anything else.

"They're going to love you. Heck, they already do," Matt said pulling me to him.

"Hey watch the hair man she's black gel and water won't work, "

My mind blocked out any other comments they may have made to each other and focused on the scent that was coming from my boyfriend. I looked up and saw questioning eyes looking down at me."

I pulled away before commenting. "Um, you smell good, "

" Did I smell bad before?" he asked one eyebrow-raising.

" No, I just-"

"I'm kidding love lighten up, " he said pulling me back in.

"Dude her hair!" Kate yelled.

"There's no time to be funny Matt, " I mumbled into his chest taking in another breath of his scent.

He pulled back before coupling my face in his hands and giving me a quick kiss. "They're going to love you. Not as much as I love you but close enough, "

My heart felt like it was running a thousand miles per hour? Love?

"Come on sunshine let's go, " he said taking my hands in his.

"Bye Kate, "  I said following Matt to the door.

"Go get 'em girl!"
