AIMEE
The cars were honking. I was speeding through the traffic, my mind was on one person.
My grandpa.
I aggressively wiped my tears and pressed on the pedal. It was 12:47pm and the road was filled with cars.
"Please be okay." I repeated over and over again.
When mom called, I didn't waste any second and got into my car and left. All of this in one day was creating a whole mess in my mind.
Everything that could go wrong was weighing on my shoulder. What if something happens with grandpa? How would I live without him?
After what felt like forever, I reached the hospital. There were people going in and out of the entrance. Children were crying, people were shouting.
Headache was starting to form, but I didn't have time to think about it. I pushed through the doors and went to the information desk.
"In what room is Henrik Managold, I'm his granddaughter. Please I need to see him." The lady looked at me and then averted her eyes on the computer.
She tapped her long nails on the keyboard and looked for about a minute and finally told me where he was.
"Room three, section seven. It's on the fourth floor." Not waiting any more second, I went to the elevator and pressed the number four.
"Hurry up." I pressed on the button again.
The doors opened and I ran through the hall. I spotted my mom and dad in front of one of the rooms.
"Mom." My legs barely carried me to them. "Aimee, I called you but you didn't pick up." She opened her arms and hugged me. I finally let myself cry again.
I patted my pocket but my phone was not there. I must have forgotten it at home.
"How is he?"
"He's okay now. The doctor's inside." She caressed my cheeks and wiped the tears that fell down my face.
"What happened?" My lips trembled.
"He saw the tabloids about you. You know how much he cares about you and your reputation. And on top of that his health condition." Her teary eyes bored into mine.
"It's not like that mom. What they wrote... it's not true. I'll tell you everything later, okay?" She nodded and I went to hug dad.
"He'll be okay, don't worry honey. You know dad won't give up like that." A sad laugh broke through my mouth.
"Yes, I know." He would never leave me. Not without saying goodbye.
"Where's grandma?" I turned to my mom. "She's inside. They let her be with him, because she wouldn't let go of his hand. She wanted to be there with him."
We waited for the doctor to come out. My heart was going to jump out of my chest. Even though it was not cold, my body started to shiver.
I tightened the jacket around me and leaned back on the plastic chair.
Leo was supposed to come to my apartment. I rubbed my face in frustration.
The door opened and I quickly got up. It was the doctor, he was an elderly man with grey hair and round glasses on.
"He's fine now, but you should be more careful. Don't put stress on him and watch out on what he eats. I already told his wife but it's good for you too know as well." With that he left.
Mom told me that grandpa was close to having a heart attack. They were quick to take him to the hospital, if they weren't things could have been worse.
"I'll go and see him." I headed to the door and slowly opened it.
He was lying on the bed eyes closed and grandma was next to him sitting on a chair, holding his hand.
There was a small screen beside the bed, monitoring his heart.
"Hey, sweetheart." Grandma said and gave me a smile. "Don't worry he's okay, just tired."
His breathing was even and he looked like he was falling asleep.
I stayed in the room for a while, processing what was happening because of me. He was here just because of me.
"I'll go out on fresh air." I gave grandma a kiss on the forehead and left.
I told my parents where I was going and made my way down the hall to the elevator. There was a back door that leaded to a backyard of the hospital. As I stepped out, I breathed the cold air and closed my eyes. Feeling the fresh scent of the rain fill my lungs.
After few minutes I heard loud foot step of someone running.
"Zaria." Strong hands wrapped around my figure. I was crushed against Leo's chest.
"I've been looking for you. Thank God you're fine." He cupped my face and kissed me.
"I'm fine Leo." His hands were around me again and he let out a soft cry.
"You have no idea how worried I was. I called you but you didn't pick up. I thought something happened to you. I almost lost my mind." Tears welled up in his honey coloured eyes. "I called Rowan to see if maybe you friend knew where you are. And then they told me."
"Hey, shh I'm okay." I reassured him.
"The tabloids and the photos are gone. You don't have to worry about that anymore. I took care of it." But people already saw. My grandpa saw, that's why we were here. He could have died. Chills covered my body even by thinking that.
"Thank you." I whispered. He nodded and wiped his eyes.
"How's your grandpa?" Leo smoothed my hair. Still holding my face.
"He's fine thankfully." I looked down.
"You should go now. You probably have a lot of work. I don't want my parents to see you like this." I pointed with my hands around us. This was not the best situation for them to meet. I wanted it to be different, in our own circumstances. "They are already stressed enough, I'll tell them about us, but not today. Okay?" It was not the right time to drop the bomb on them.
"Okay, baby. Whatever you want. But please call me if you need anything." He lightly kissed my lips and made his way to the parking lot.
Oh God, everything was a mess. I hated seeing him like this, so worried and worn out. I wanted him here beside me, but I also needed space.
I had to figure it out how to tell my parents. They'll understand me, I'm sure of it but it doesn't change the fact that they saw the disgusting stuff they wrote about us. I don't know how they'll feel about Leo if they saw him right now.
I placed my hands in my pockets and found some coins.
Taking another breath, I went inside to buy some water from the vending machine.
The hall on the first floor was quiet and there was barely anyone around. I noticed the vending machine and started walking towards it.
The water was sixty cents and I pressed on the small button.
"I told you, you'll regret it." A familiar voice spoke behind me.
I turned around and it was none other that Kai. He was dressed in dark blue scrubs and had statoscope around his neck. His hands were crossed in front of him and he had a smug grin on his face.
"What are you talking about?" I questioned. I didn't have time to deal with him as well.
Realisation hit me in the head. My eyes widened.
"You did it, didn't you? You made the paparazzi take pictures of us." He already saw me with Leo that night at the bar.
"You'll regret it." Those were his exact words.
He stayed quiet. Of course he was the one who did it.
"Do you know my grandpa is here because of that? Huh? He could have died you asshole. Just because I rejected you? You're sick." I whisper yelled at him.
"Yes, I did it. But it's pathetic of you... screwing your boss. I didn't know you were that cheap. I wouldn't have even gone on a date with you if I knew it before." I wanted to throw up. "You had no right to humiliate me and waste my time."
"You're sick in the head. I was nothing but nice to you." He took a step towards me.
"Don't you dare or I swear I'll scream." I pointed my finger at him.
"And get away from me. I don't want to see your disgusting face anymore."
"Whatever Aimee, it's not like I want to be seen with a whore like you." The audacity in this guy.
"Get out of my face." I yelled louder this time. Giving me another smirk, he walked past me.
I took the water and sat on one of the chairs that were close by. What did I do to deserve this? Why was everything happening today? My heartbeat increased and black dots started to appear in my vision.
I suddenly felt cold from inside and a sick feeling formed in my stomach.
I tried to get up but my legs felt too weak. "Mom!" My voice came out as a whisper.
I stood up and darkness took over me.
