Mr. Jones was slightly startled and turned around abruptly.
There before him was Tom who, just yesterday, had been giving them the cold shoulder but now
approached him with a full-faced smile, extending his hand. âNice to meet you!â
Mr. Jones looked at him in a daze, âMr. Davis?â
Tom said, âDid you bring the contract?â
Mr. Jones said, ââ¦Yes, I did.â
âGood, let me take a look at the contract. If thereâs nothing wrong, letâs sign the agreement today!â
Mr. Jones followed Tom into the office in a daze and still felt like he was dreaming when he walked outwith the signed contract.
He returned home in a daze.
Mrs. Jones saw his expression and thought the deal hadnât gone through, so she immediately asked,âWhat happened? You werenât chased out by the receptionist,
were you?â
Mr. Jones handed over the contract to her.
Mrs. Jones glanced at it and she, too, was stunned.
Mr. Jones looked at her. âTell me, what kind of person is your lifesaver from yesterday, exactly?â
Mrs. Jones touched her chin, pondered for a moment, and couldnât help looking at him. âIs it because Idid a good deed, and this is my reward for being a good person?â
Mr. Jones nearly rolled his eyes. âDo you believe that?â
âNo.â
Mr. Jones then said, âForget it. Whatever their background is, our dealings with them arenât for personalgain anyway!â
Mrs. Jones was also open-minded. âThatâs right!â
The next day, Keira didnât take Amy to the early
education class.
Before, Keera had sent her there to avoid Howardâs mother, who was always scolding her at home, andlater she also sent the child there as a trap for
â
Howardâs mother.
Now that she and Howard were divorced and the house had quieted down, she simply withdrew Amyfrom that school.
A two-year-old child, who lacked a sense of security so much, needed to stay close to her mother.
Furthermore, since Christinaâs scheme hadnât worked out, she was afraid something else might comeup, and she didnât want Amy to always be aggrieved.
Hearing that she didnât have to go to school anymore, Amyâs face blossomed into a smile, and Keirastayed home to play with her for a while before receiving a video call from Mary.
Mary placed her phone on the coffee table. âAmy, c give your godmother a kiss!â
Amy then shyly smiled and buried her head into Keiraâs
embrace.
Mary couldnât help but complain. âLook, my goddaughter isnât even close to me anymore. Keera, itâs allyour fault for blocking me for half a yearâ¦â
Keira wanted to make some excuses for her sister but
wasnât sure what to say when she heard Mary say, âBut thatâs okay, in the half-year you blocked me, Ireflected on myself. I wasnât considerate enough. Only a person starved of love could be deceived bythat scum Howard.â
Mary then looked at the phone. âIn the future, Iâll love you even more!â
Keira suddenly laughed, feeling that the friendship between her sister and Mary wasnât so easilyfractured. She really didnât need to explain anything.
Keira wanted to speak but suddenly heard through Maryâs video call the sound of a door being kickedopen with a âbangââ¦
Immediately after, Maryâs parents rushed in.
Mary was also stunned, and before she could end the
video call, she turned her head just as a slap landed heavily on her face!
âSlap!â
This was from her mother.
Mary covered her face, disbelief in her eyes as she
â
looked at them. âMom, what are you doing?â
Her motherâs face was livid, and upon hearing this, she immediately retorted, âWhat am I doing? Whydonât you tell us what youâve done?!â
After that, she threw a pregnancy test report in Maryâs
face!
Upon seeing the report, Maryâs pupils constricted slightly, and she looked toward her mother, trying toexplain, âI, Iâ¦â
âWhoâs the father of this bastard child?!ânovelbin
The angry voice came from her father.
He took a step forward and glared at Mary intensel âHavenât we taught you to respect and value yourseYou cannot do such things! You got pregnant and messed around outside! How are you supposed toget
married now?!â
Maryâs mother began to cry. âThatâs right. Are you not going on a blind date with Mr. Horton because ofthis man?! Are you
confused?!â
Mary looked at them and suddenly clenched her fists. âDad, Mom, itâs foolish to date and get pregnant, but
itâs not foolish to marry Lewis, an old widower?!â
Keira, who was beginning to worry for Mary, was dumbfounded.
She silently turned back and glanced at Lewis, who
was quietly watching her and Amy. The âold widowerâsâ lips twitched.
That was indeed an unmerited disaster.
Keira coughed and continued to watch the video.
Mary had always had a strong presence at home, and her parents lived under her protection, so Keiradidnât think much of it at the time.
But unexpectedly, after Mary said those words, Mar father took a step forward and slapped her again.âUngrateful creature! Is Mr. Horton the same as ordinary people? If you are so capable, why donât yousleep with Mr. Horton or Mr. Ellis and have them take responsibility for you?!â
Mary was stunned.
Her father continued to point at her and shouted, âWho will marry you now, looking like this?! If we canâtmarry into a wealthy family, how will your mother and
BAX
I stay in this house in the future?! Even your grandmother will be driven out! She wonât be able to beburied with your grandfather! Mary, do you even understand?!â
Upon hearing this, Mary suddenly laughed. âSo, what am I in your eyes? A commodity to trade for gloryand wealth?!â
Maryâs motherâs expression froze. âHow can you speak of me like that?â
Maryâs fatherâs face darkened. âNo matter what you say, this child must be aborted! And you mustnât tellanyone about this, understand?â
Maryâs mother then took out an abortion pill from pocket. âWeâve already bought the medicine for youTake it now, Mary. Just do as youâre told. Once you take this medicine, in less than two hours, this
creature will be gone. Then youâll still be our pure and pristine girlâ¦â
Maryâs eyes widened.
She couldnât believe what she was seeing, just feeling chills run down her spine.
She had never thought that her own parents would
treat her like this one dayâ¦
Mary looked at them in shock, her hands
subconsciously resting on her belly. âMom, I wonât take it⦠I want this child!â
Her mother frowned upon hearing this. âWhy canât you just obey?â
Her father also stepped forward. The man who was always frightened by bodyguards and Maryâs unclesuddenly grasped Maryâs arm tightly. âMary, donât blame us. We have no choice. You must take thismedicine⦠You have to marry into a wealthy familyâ¦â
Mary, in terror, tried to break free from his grip, but how could a girlâs strength compare to a manâs?
Maryâs father held her fast, even prying her mouth open, not giving her a chance to speak again, whileMaryâs mother opened the medicine and forced it into her mouthâ¦
Upon witnessing this, Keira panicked and screamed, âUncle, Auntie! You canât kill this baby!â
Mary struggled, tears streaming down, but she
couldnât break free from her fatherâs restraint and her
motherâs suppressionâ¦
Maryâs mother, hearing the voice from the phone, said sternly, âKeera, I know you and Mary are goodfriends, but you donât understand. Itâs a mistake one makes in youth out of impulsiveness, and youâllregret it later! This bastard child cannot stay!â
Keira saw the pill about to enter Maryâs mouth, wishing she could travel through the video call to getthere, but it was already too lateâ¦
She could only yell, âThis child is Ellisâs!!â
