Mrs. Jones looked at Lewis in confusion, then glanced at Keira. feeling like she must have misheard.âWhat?â a Lewis didnât want to say anything more.
Keira just smiled and said, âJust listen to him, and have your husband take the contract to HortonGroup first thing in the morning.â
Mrs. Jones was perplexed.
She couldnât help but size up Lewis again, noticing the noble aura of a privileged young man. Despitehis sports shirt, he didnât seem like an ordinary person.
Could he be a member of the Horton family?
As Mrs. Jones thought about this, she saw Keira pick up Amy and sit in the back seat of the car, withLewis behind the wheel.
Mrs. Jones was speechless.
This person seemed to be Keeraâs driver, right?
Or possibly Keeraâs husband?
She was really overthinking it.
Mrs. Jones shook her head, bent down to pick up her son, and got into the car to return home.
On the way home, Amy wrapped her arms tightly around Keira; the little girl felt no sense of security atthat moment.
In a weak voice, she asked, âMom, did I cause trouble for our family?â
Hearing this, Keiraâs heart melted, and hugged the girl. âNo, Amy is the best-behaved.â
The little girl didnât understand deceit and didnât know her mother had changed, but she instinctively feltuneasy and clung onto Keira as she said, âMom, will you abandon Amy?â
âOf course not.â
Keira gently patted her back, and Amy didnât let go until they got home.
So, that evening, Keira had an extra attachment to her body.
During dinner, Amy insisted on sitting on her lap.
When Keira was dealing with company matters that night, Amy also needed to be thereâ¦
When she had finished her work, it was already dark. Keira had just stood up when Lewis came overand stretched out his hand. âIâll take Amy back to her
room.â
Keira didnât think much of it and handed Amy over to him.
But perhaps sensing her motherâs scent, Amy immediately started squirming restlessly in Lewisâs armsas soon as she was in them, calling out with her eyes closed, âMommy, mommyâ¦â
Keira, feeling helpless, had to reach out again and t the child back into her arms.
She carried Amy to her bedroom and after placing he on the bed, the little girl still clung tightly to hersleeve, unwilling to let her leave.
Keira lay down beside her.
After an unknown amount of time, there was a noise at the door, and as Keira turned her head, sheglimpsed
Lewis standing there.
The bedroom lights were off, and the dim light from the hallway spilled over him.
The man had just taken a shower, his hair still dripping with water. He wore a robe that was slightlyopen at the neckline, his dark eyes fixated on her.
Though not a word was spoken, the invitation was clear.
Keira blinked, pointed at the sleeve Amy was pulling on, and didnât move.
Lewis seemed to understand and walked away.
Keira thought he had got her message and found a comfortable position to lie down, ready to spend thenight with Amy.
But just as she was about to fall asleep, she heard a faint noise again.
Slowly turning her head, Keira saw Lewis standing by the bed, bending over, doing something.
Then, she heard a click, and the arm that Amy was
pulling on suddenly felt lighter.
Keira was perplexed.
Looking down, she suddenly realized that Lewis had taken a pair of scissors and cut open her pajamasand the place Amy was clutching!
Keira was shocked.
Just as she was about to say something, the man made a âshushâ sound at her, and then a large handenveloped her shoulders and legs. Before she knew it, she was being carried away.
Lewis moved quietly, not disturbing Amy, and swiftly carried her out of the nursery and back to themaster
bedroom.
Keira asked, âWhat are you doing?â
âIâm letting you try out the new bed.â
Keira looked at him with a smile, âReally? Just trying out the new bed?â
Both being adults, Keira understood all too well how starving for affection a man like Lewis, after 28years of singleness, would be once he started indulging.
Lewisâs face remained tense, yet his ears slowly turned
a shade of red.
He really couldnât take a teaseâ¦
While Keira was thinking about this, she saw Lewis suddenly shed his night-robe. âAnd try out theperson again.â
Suddenly, the lights in the master bedroom were turned off, and rustling sounds filled the room.
Keira thought she was quite fit, but she simply couldnât keep up with the manâ¦
She didnât remember when she fell asleep, only recalling the last moments of exhaustion, drifting off asLewis asked in her ear, âIs the bed comfortable?â
She said, âItâs comfortable.â
She was so close to passing out!
Then she heard Lewis ask, âAnd what about me?
Comfortable?â
Keira didnât know what to say.
While she had a good nightâs sleep, Mrs. Jones was filled with concern the whole evening.
Her husband, hoping to be seen favorably by the Horton Group, worked late into the night before he
came home.
Upon arriving home, he saw Mrs. Jonesâs worried face and immediately asked what had happened.Mrs. Jones recounted the dayâs events at the kindergarten and began apologetically. âIâm sorry. I mighthave hindered something important for you.â
life.
Mr. Jones was quite reasonable. âShe saved your We canât just watch her predicament without helping. What you did was right.â
Mrs. Jones felt a warmth in her chest and became even more apologetic.
She nestled in her husbandâs embrace. âWhat happens if we canât secure the project?â
Mr. Jones comforted her. âIf we canât get it, weâll continue to be a second-rate wealthy family. Whatâswrong? Isnât the company earning enough for us?â
Mrs. Jones chuckled. âBut Keera and that man with her said you should take the contract and sign withthe Horton Group tomorrowâ¦â
Mr. Jones couldnât help but laugh. âHow is that possible? I havenât received any news from my sideâ¦Besides honestly, we might not have been chosen
â
anyway, thereâs another company with stronger capabilities that might be a better fit for the HortonGroup.â
Mr. Jones sighed, which was why he had to work urgently late into the night.
Mrs. Jones simply nodded in response.
After the two lay down, having only rested for three hours, Mrs. Jones sat up. âWhy donât you try goingto the Horton Group? Miss Keera seemed quite certain, not like someone who would speakflippantlyâ¦â
Mr. Jones responded with a wry smile to her words. âWithout a call from the Horton Group, whatâs thereto
try?â
Mrs. Jones pushed him. âJust take the contract and give it a try. What harm could it do? Just go andsee!â
Half an hour later.
Mr. Jones stood at the Horton Groupâs temporary office in Clance, chuckling at himself.
He really was bewitched, why had he listened to his wife and come all the way here?
Mr. Jones looked down at the contract and was about
