As Lewisâs car left, the vehicles from the Horton familyâs old house and a delivery van arrived one after
the other.
Lewis cast a brief glance at the old houseâs car, without
much concern.
After all, it was common for Mr. Horton to send people oyer to the old Mrs. Horton with greetings orgifts; they always went directly to her.
As for the delivery vanâ¦
With over a hundred people residing in the manor, it could be anyoneâs delivery.
His car just brushed past those two vehiclesâ¦
Once he was far away, the door of the car from the old house opened, the driver jumped out, and, watching Lewisâs car, he couldnât help but ask the gatekeeper, âWas that Mr. Horton who just left?â
The gatekeeper replied, âYes!â
The driver immediately became anxious. âI came here
to deliver something to him. Where is Mr. Horton
(
going?â
The gatekeeper scratched his head. âHow would I know the masterâs business?â
Realizing he asked the wrong person, the driver immediately got back into the car and headed straightfor old Mrs. Hortonâs courtyard.
The delivery van planned to follow but was stopped by the gatekeeper. âWhose delivery is it? You canâtgo in just like that.â-
The delivery person was speechless.
And just like that, he was abandoned at the gate.
He thought about it and still sent a message to his boss. âBoss, I delivered your package to GlowVillage,
but Stubborn Five is in Oceanion. I followed the drive
to Oceanion, to a very wealthy household, and theyâre not letting me in.â
Keira replied to the message very quickly. âThen just head back, no need to wait.â
She had left a contact number anyway; the big brother would contact her.., right?
Keira paused slightly.
â
But she quickly put the matter out of her mind.
She glanced sideways at Lewis again, noticing that the manâs face was cold, and he hadnât spoken aword.
The car soon arrived at the courthouse.
Keira got out of the car first. âItâs open. Should we go
in?â
Lewis didnât move.
Keira simply sighed softly and stared straight at him with the car door open.
After a standoff of about a minute, Lewis finally got
out of the car.
Keira walked toward the courthouse and had only taken a couple of steps when she sensed somethinwas off. Looking back, she saw Lewis looking up at entrance of the courthouse, seemingly unfamiliar wthe place.
Well, he was in a daze when he came to get his marriage license, so he had completely forgottenabout this place.
She walked up to Lewisâs side, only to hear him say,
âWe canât get the divorce today.â
(
Keira was startled. âWhy not?â
Had Lewis determined to watch Madeleine die and wouldnât break up with her?
Just as that thought crossed her mind, she heard him say, âI forgot to bring the marriage certificate.â
Keira was dumbfounded.
She glanced at Lewis and coughed slightly. âThen letâs go home to get it.â
Lewis said, âI have a meetingâ
Keira said, âThen letâs do it this afternoon.ânovelbin
âI have an engagement this afternoon.â
Keira was perplexed.
She looked at Lewis with an amused expression,.âM Horton, do you know what you look like rightnow?â
Lewis felt somewhat embarrassed under her gaze and coughed guiltily. âWhat do I look like?â
âLike a child sulking and throwing a tantrum with their
parents.â
Lewis looked at her. âSo if I throw a tantrum, can you,
,
âNo, I cannot.â
Keira was frustrated. âMarriage is no childâs play, Lewis. If we donât get a divorce, when will you solvethe problem with Madeleine? I can wait for a month, three months, but can you expect me to wait threeor five years?â
Lewis clenched his jaw.
If it were possible to cure Madeleine, she would have been cured in those five yearsâ¦
And if he refused to see her before she was cured,
Madeleine would commit suicideâ¦
Lewis was trapped; in the short term, he either had to watch her die heartlessly, or there was nosecond option.
But he couldnât just watch his lifesaver die, especially
when her death would be related to him.
He looked at Keira again.
A carefree woman like Keira was trapped in the Horton family because of this inexplicable marriage.
If they divorced, perhaps she would truly run awayâ¦
This thought panicked him, and he said, âKeira, Iâm really busy today. Letâs come back tomorrow, alright?â
Keira looked at him intently and finally nodded. âAlright.â
Lewis handed over the car to her. âYou go home first.
Iâll head to the officeâ¦â
Keira shook her head. âWith my current status, itâs not appropriate for me to go back to the Horton
residence.â
Lewis was stunned, and he felt even more frustrated.
He clenched his fists tightly, wanting to say something, but not knowing how to express it, and in theend, he just grunted and got into the car.
He looked somewhat disheveled.
Keira watched his car drive away, lowered her eyes, and let out a silent sigh.
She wanted to say that thereâs no need to be so
entangled.
If the two of them were fated, they would definitely break out of this impasse.
Who knows? Maybe in a year or two, Madeleineâs
illness might be cured.
Or perhapsâ¦
She didnât continue with the rest of the thought.
Keira hailed a cab and returned to the Olsen residence.
Upon entering and just stepping into the living room, she heard Taylor speaking, âIf youâre worried, whydonât you give her a call to ask her?â
Jodie South immediately refused. âWouldnât that put pressure on Keira?â
Keira realized upon hearing this conversation that they had seen the news.
In these times, journalists were omnipresent.
Itâs truly difficult to keep anything a secret.
She pushed open the door and walked in.
Jodie South, surprised, said, âKeira, youâ¦â
âMom, Iâve decided to get a divorce.â Keira didnât hide it
from her.
No sooner had she spoken than Taylor immediately
objected. âRidiculous, how can you just divorce? As a couple, you must face things together!â
Keira remained silent.
Taylor felt a hint of embarrassment and looked toward Jodie South, âShirley, please talk some senseinto her.â
But Jodie South said, âGood, this house will always welcome you!â
Taylor was taken aback, âShirley, youâ¦â
Jodie South looked at him. âThere are some things we
can face together, but with that woman out there, itâs a complicated issue, and one must step out. Idonât want Keira to get hurt in this three-person play. I respect Keiraâs choice. Keira, your room upstairsis not yet renovated, so you can sleep with me tonight.â
When Taylor heard this, he was slightly stunned.
But then it dawned on him that Mrs. Olsen had always been a woman of decisive action. She hadalways been
like thatâ¦
As to why she would stay with him, tolerating Poppyâ¦
It was obviously because she didnât love him.â
A trace of mockery flashed through Taylorâs eyes.
Neither Keira nor Jodie noticed his reaction. Jodie had already taken Keira by the hand and wasleading her upstairs. âWe have never slept in the same room
before; tonight, we can also have a good chat.â
âSure.â
Keira suddenly said, âMom, I want to have the vegetable pasta you make for lunch.â
Jodie was stunned for a moment, then laughed. âMy
child, the pasta I make isnât deliciousâ¦â
When Keira was a child, Mrs. Olsen used to cook, hoping to be a good wife and mother.
Yet the pasta she made was once scorned by Isla.
But Keira, looking on, couldnât have been more
envious.
It was such a simple thing, yet Poppy had never done i
for her.
She really wanted to eat the food made by Jodie South.
She insisted. âBut I want to eat it.â
Jodie was taken aback. ââ¦Okay.â
The mother and daughter spent a day at the Olsen residence, and at noon, Keira got to eat the pastashe had been longing for, and at night, they lay down together.
Between Keira and Jodie South, the past 22 years didnât seem to have happened, and they were asclose as any ordinary mother and daughter.
Keira understood that this was Jodie South taking care of her feelings.
But the closeness between them couldnât be faked.
That night, lying in bed, she took out her phone again.
Suddenly, she noticed that she had received a text
message.
In the digital age, most people communicate throug WhatsApp or other means, and very few send text
messages.
Thus, the majority of the messages in Keiraâs inbox were ads and spam.
So, this particular message was very conspicuous.
It was from an unfamiliar number, with just one
sentence. âDo not divorce Lewis.â
How mysteriousâ¦
It had to be the person who had orchestrated their marriage in the first place!
Keira got up and walked to the balcony. She found the number and dialed it straight away.
