Ashwin's pov :
There was a complete silence. Fear started to fill me. I lifted my head to look at her...And then I realised what I have done.
Even in those dim lights I could clearly see her eyes which were sparkling when I holded her hands, it were now in unbearable ache.
Those were now in confusion for which reason to pick up to shed.. happiness or sadness..
Those lips which smiled brightly shivered in dismay.
Oh my God ! What have I done !
I didn't know what to say. I just stood up from bed and said silently
" I'm sorry "
She said, no it was more like a whisper
" Take your time ".
That reply... trapped me into a box of guilt.
I could have accepted anything she would have said or done ,her cursing words, her painful scream , I could have been stood still even if she had given a tight slap.. but no , those weren't her response ..
She wiped her face and smiled at me.. for me.. I was taken aback by how she disguised her pain in the form of a smile. she went to the washroom and came within few minutes and made a pillow wall between us and laid down. All this time I did nothing just stare at this woman who was adjusting herself for me.
I laughed at my situation. I went to the balcony and stood there, staring the sky as if God was visible to my eyes, I asked looking at the sky
" Should I pity myself or this woman?"
I sat on the swing and thought about how nervous the day started how suddenly it dragged me to pain and how it turned me into guilty filled man. What did I do wrong to deserve this situation. I don't know when sleep engulfed me in its arms, I slept soundly, forgetting everything as I am a person out of the world when I sleep.
The mobile in my pocket suddenly rang, I woke up with a jerk.. damn it was the alarm. It was 8.15 am. I realized I slept on the swing. I went into the room , she was there on the bed still.. the sun rays were touching her smoothly afraid that they will wake her up even though they don't want to. I went to take a shower. When I stepped out she was already awake. We just had an eye contact and she just went to the washroom. After about 10 mins she came out. I was afraid what to ask her, she was getting ready and when I was about to talk to her , she left. No I don't think she deliberately did that but she could have atleast waited till I say something. Wait.. I just hit my head
"nee enna loose ah.. nee Ava kita vanthu apdi ipdi nu past nu solluva..nee pesra varaikum Ava wait pannanuma.. what a selfish idiot you are."
I forgot that we have to present us to the world together as we are a couple now... I just ran to the steps, there she was waiting for me.. I just slowly moved towards her as soon as I reached near her, we walked down together. The whole family was already chatting and laughing. My mother's lips gave way to a beautiful smile seeing us. Somewhere inside I was frightened what will she answer when mom asks something. I went near the dining table and turned by my side she wasn't there. I turned back she was still near the steps.
I said to myself that i have to be by her side. I was about go to her that's when Vijay went to her and said
"Anniiii enna neenga thayangitu nikkuringa ithu Namma veedu vaanga anniii.."
I never complimented my brother but today he made me feel that he is best.
She smiled brightly and caressed his head. He took her hands and made her to sit on sofa next to my mom. My dad was about to get up to take his specs but she asked him to sit and brought his specs from the tv shelf.
'she is caring' said my smiling heart.
When my mom stood up and was about to turn that's when my mom's sister,Buvana ma hit her toes on the sofa and was about to spill the coffee on mom, I rushed to hold mom,
but before that she screamed
" Ammaaa..."Â and
holded mom and pulled by her left side. The coffee spilled on her cream color sareee. Buvana ma apologised , she smiled and replied
"Aiyo paravala atha, neenga patharathinga "
Buvana ma went to back to the kitchen apologizing again. I was scared by the thought of coffee spilling on mom. Mom made her to sit on the sofa. She caressed her head and slowly held her chin and said
"Ipo etho sonniye thirumba sollu "
"Uh enathu " she replied
" Coffee enmela kotta pogumbothu etho solli kooptiye , ennanu sonna " asked mom.
Her lips smiled widely and said
" Amma "
Tears of love filled my mom's eyes, she lovingly kissed daughter-in-law.. no no... daughter's forehead.
My heart skipped a beat for the first time in a while.
"She cares for us" someone whispered to my ears.
I turned back to see it was Vijay. Never in my life he smiled before me like this showing all his shining teeth.
I turned back to her. Mom told her to go and change the saree. She made her Amma to sit on the left side of sofa so that mom won't step on the coffee and went towards stairs.
" Yes ! She cares " said my heart to me.
My eyes followed her , she was not seeing straightly , her focus was on her saree drapes, when she stepped on the first step...
