Chapter 22: 22. Curiosity

Jack

Hadn’t she seen me shift from bear to human?

Besides her becoming a ranting, angry dwarf, she had been fairly calm about me being able to shift, I thought. But seeing her completely freaked out now, from realising that it had been real, instead of a dream, I might have wanted to start with that subject first...

I reached forward, wanting to come closer to her, wanting to reassure her that she wasn’t in any danger, but she wasn’t having any of it. Instead she leaned backwards, tumbling down the side of the bed, grunting and cursing as she probably hit her head against the nightstand.

“Sweetheart, if you keep running, instead of listening, I might need to pin you down with my claws.” I said, chuckling.

“I’d rather crawl under this bed, instead of facing your... your... rabid side!” She said, while trying to keep a steady voice.

I crawled to the side of the bed, and looked down on her, as she laid on the floor, looking upwards.

“You alright?” I asked her.

“No.”

“Want to come up here again?” I asked her, while leaning my head on my hands.

“Are you going to go full feral on me?” She asked, while crossing her arms.

I sighed, as when she crossed her arms, her boobs got pushed up a bit, probably showing me more than she would like them to. Not that I was going to say anything about it, I loved the view like this.

Her black hair, all splayed out over the floor, her bare legs, neck and arms… Goddess she is beautiful.

“Only if you want me to.” I smirked up to her.

“No, I don’t want that.”

“Your loss, you might even like it.” I chuckled but got up into a seating position, on the other side of the bed again.

She hesitated for a moment, but then used the edge of the bed to stand up again.

“Haven’t I told you, like a dozen times, that I won’t hurt you?” I asked her.

“Yes, but that was before you had sent that other bear to kill me! And before everything else happened!” She yelled, while stepping away from the bed, her back against the wall.

Sent a bear to kill her? What bear... Oh... Dennis!

I laughed loudly, upon the realisation that she thinks I control bears! Sure I’m the Alpha, so yes technically I do control them, but not in the way she thinks.

“Why are you laughing! Stop making fun of me!” She yelled angry.

But her becoming angry towards me, was at least a better emotion than her being frightened of me. I kept laughing and she huffed and puffed.

She looked down her body, and started wrapping the towel around her body tightly, and pointing to me as if she wanted to accuse me of something. At which I stopped laughing and looked at her, as she frowned her brows and tilted her head a little sideways, which I have come to find out she does when thinking hard, and I waited.

“Was that brown bear, a man as well?” She hesitated to ask me.

“Yes, love. That was Dennis.”

Doreen

I had been stunned, by all the things that had happened this last hour.

At first there was this rush, that Jack knew who my father was, then I had to recap myself while sitting in the tub, and now this, where he told me that both himself and Dennis could change into a bear... A fucking bear!!

I looked Jack in the eyes, searching for something dangerous in its depths, but I couldn’t find it.

“But, how?” I asked him, not really sure as to what I wanted to ask myself.

“How what? Didn’t your father tell you about us?” Jack asked me in return.

I asked myself if he meant that question as something accusing, towards me, as if I should know about them already, as if I’m putting up an act of ignorance. But I just figured that his direct and rough way of talking, is just part of his ‘bear-side’.

“He told me that he hunts for men who can communicate with animals.” I said, rather reluctant to tell him more.

He raised one brow, and then crossed his own arms and sighed.

I took a few steps forward, trying to relax at the best of my capabilities, and sat myself on the bed again, sitting on my feet.

“There is more, but I suppose you know about it already.” I said while looking at my hands, that were on my thighs now. “What he told me, about how he gathered new information about you guys, is the reason that made me want to run away from him.” I said, while it was hard to fight back the tears.

I raised my head, while looking Jack in the eyes.

“I don’t want to go back to my father! I don’t want to lead his group of mercenaries who do terrible things to others! Even though you are not human, and I’m still fairly afraid of what you can do, it’s not right! Please just tell me that you guys are good, please just tell me that I don’t have to be afraid of you! Please, just keep me safe!” I yelled and cried.

Jack reached forward, and I couldn’t put any more energy in running way, not from my father and not from Jack. I just embraced his arms, as I let him pull me towards him. My legs straddled his waist, as I slammed my arms around his neck and I could feel his arms surround my total upper body.

Warmth that radiated from his chest, calmed my nerves, but when he talked, his deep baritone voice rumbled, and the trembling set me at ease completely.

“No one will ever hurt you again. You are mine, and I will protect you.” He hushed.

Jack

I held her tight, as this was the closest position we had been in, from the start. Both my mind and body didn’t want to let her go, so I just kept her there, until she was completely calm again.

What I said was true, it was a promise, and I’d rather be killed than I would ever get her hurt again. I’m the only one, from now on, that is allowed to touch her naked body.

I thought back to the way she was held by the bastard, who thought could take what is mine, and I growled.

Doreen pushed herself upwards, and looked at me with scared eyes.

“Don’t worry sweetheart, I just thought back to this guy who had you, and I got angry at him.” I said.

She sighed in relief, for now.

“What can I do, to make you less jumpy? Do you want me to explain everything, about me, or do you want to take it slow, and just see where everything leads you?” I asked her.

Again, her head tilted, and she slightly frowned her brows. It was really cute to see her do that, as it was an action of her, of which she probably didn’t know she did.

“Aren’t you afraid that I will tell my father about it then?” She asked me.

“Are you going to?” I asked her.

Not that I expected the wrong answer to that question, but I still wanted to hear her say it, to see if I could find a sliver of hesitation in it.

“NO! No, no! I won’t, I promise I won’t tell anyone!” She sputtered and heavily shook her head.

“Shush now, I know you won’t.” I chuckled at her response, and pushed her against my chest again.

I rubbed her back, and it was hard for me to not rip the necklace of her neck and see where our passion would take us, but she has to be the one to do that, willingly. She has faced an almost rape, and I’m not going to force her into anything that she is not prepared for right now.

Even though I’m almost desperate to try at least something. I mean, a man can only take that much before he explodes, and right now she is sitting on my lap, only being covered in a flimsy towel, with her moist entrance right above my cock, with only my jeans acting as a thin barrier.

“There maybe is one thing, that you can do.” She whispered suddenly, and raised herself up again.

“Anything.” I said without a doubt, also hoping to change my mind a little further away from her naked body.

She got red cheeks, and lowered her head in embarrassment.

I lifted her chin, and looked her in the eyes. “Tell me.” I said.

“Well… I don’t know. Are you in full control, when you transform into your bear? Like fully aware of everything?” She asked me.

“Yes sweetheart, my hearing, sight and strength is tenfold of what I have now, but I’m in full control of it.” I chuckled. “Do you want to see my bear?”

“Can I? I mean, isn’t that rude to ask that of you?” She asked me.

I smiled, happy that her emotions have turned around a little, giving her mind some space to get her curiosity back in action again.

“No, it isn’t rude. Why don’t you just sit here in bed, and I’ll shift at the other side of the room. Would that comfort you enough?” I asked her and she nodded.
