Chapter 74 Reaching out, Maeve gripped Charlieâs sleeve. âStop!â
Charlie turned around, asking in a muffled voice, âWhat?â
âDid you do it?â
âWhat did I do?â
Charlie was stunned.
âThe director.â
Maeve got straight to the point.
Charlie thought about it for a moment. âZion probably did it.â
âWhy would Zion care about these things?â
Maeve suddenly recalled the incident that day, when Clara and the others were on the ground floor of the apartment complex.
It might actually have been Zion.
But at that moment, Maeveâs doubts were replaced by another question. âDid you get so broke that you have to eat here?â
The commonerâs cafeteria at Amenam University didnât look like a place where Charlie would visit at all.
âIâm trying to save up in every way I can.â
Charlieâs reply was clear and concise.
After all, Zion would give up eight billion dollars one moment, and the next, he would turn on the lights of the whole company throughout the night. He even bought a house that was renovated luxuriously, and he had also spent money to build a whole skyscraper.
In the two weeks he spent courting the girl, he had almost used up all the money he had in his account.
So there shouldnât be anything wrong with Charlie trying to save some money!
Maeve called Charlie over to eat with them.
Maeve asked, âWhat exactly is Zion trying to do by calling over the directorâs men?â
âThereâs something called âsetting an example.ââ
Maeve said sternly, âTell me the details.â
âHe didnât mention any details. He just said that this is called âsetting an example.â
Maeve fell silent.
Chapter 74 2/2 She pondered the meaning behind those words.
Zion was a young wolf, and he had fierce determination burning within him. Still, he was more or less a little reserved.
He might have another motive for doing that.
Maeve turned and asked Sheldon, âAnd then? What happened next?â
âNothing. Still, it was quite funny to see Clara trying her best to push the blame on Jenny.â
Maeve realized what was going on right away.
Zion was indeed more cunning than she had imagined.
Clara didnât dare to reveal the truth behind the bulletin board incident at all, for she was the one who put up the leaflets in secret.
Zion told the director to purposefully say that Jenny was the one who did it. If the director conducted an investigation, he would soon figure out that Clara was the one behind this.
Clara feared that she might get found out, so she would definitely push the blame on Jenny. This plan to sow discord would easily drive a wedge between Clara and the other two. Also, Clara was the one who said it herself, so she couldnât argue about that.
Since those two had already seen Claraâs true colors, things would get interesting from here on out.
Maeve relayed the explanation to Charlie and Sheldon.
Sheldon scoffed and said, âThen why didnât he let the director investigate it straight away? If Clara was the one behind this, she would suffer even more, right?â
Maeve replied, âClara can just explain that she was scared that I might snatch her boyfriend from her. Sheâll just keep lying to the others by telling them that sheâs the victim instead. When that happens, there will be too many variables at play, so it wonât be stable enough.
âAlso, those two have been friends with Clara for so long, so Iâm sure they know lots of interesting stuff. Now that theyâre at odds with each other, those two might expose even more juicy secrets.â
Charlie was confused. âHold on. Claraâs boyfriend?â
