Chapter 23

An Unexpected Surprise

Skinny Dipping At Dusk

Important Authors note:

Okay, so I don’t want this note to sound rude, but I hate it when people complain about by updating skills. In my opinion, updating every three to four days (with the exception of a longer upload if I get way too busy which only has happened about twice) is VERY good. Some popular writers on here take up to two weeks to upload, and even though my chapters might not be eight pages, I usually always upload frequently. I got a comment on my last chapter from someone and they said that they liked that I upload so quick. I thank them, but I really hate receiving comments when someone says I don’t update enough. It is not possible for me to update every day with some honors classes, a two hour long practice of basketball or an ever longer game after school and homework. Do you know that sometimes I even put my school work aside to update for you guys? I really shouldn’t be doing that, but I hate making you all wait.

So I know that was extremely long and ranty, but I just had to let it out. I hope you all appreciate the time I take out of my day to write this for you all, BUT most of all I hope you all know how much I appreciate your positive feedback and support.

I will try to make the chapters longer, but it's really hard because it takes me a WHILE to sit down and write a lot in one time. I get writters block a lot, and that's why it's hard for me to write long chapters. My attention span wonders and I can't help it please understand this.

Well, I know that was super long, and give yourself a pat on the back if you actually read it, because I bet a bunch of you just skipped right by it haha. Anyway, enjoy.

Gavin and I had entered the theater ready to max out on some sugary snacks and buttery popcorn when I thought I saw Landon. I laughed at the thought almost immediately. Landon was back at camp, and that guy just happened to look like him from the back. A lot like him.

“Uh, whatchha looking at?”

Gavin’s voice made me turn away from the broad-shouldered guy surrounded by at least three girls and towards him. “Oh nothing, just zoning that’s all.”

He nodded his head and motioned towards the racks of candy and theater popcorn. “So what do you want? I’m buying.”

I looked at the sugary snacks happily. Smiling, I picked out some cookie dough balls and skittles. “Why don’t we share a drink, everything is so expensive here.”

Gavin ordered a large popcorn for our fat asses and paid for the food and drinks. I smiled as we walked towards the theater Red Dawn was playing in.

“Thanks for buying, I could have helped out though.”

He shrugged his shoulders. “It’s not that big of a deal. I don’t mind buying things for you.”

There was something in his voice that made my heart skip a beat. Did Gavin like me? Was this a date? Suddenly he gripped my arm and pulled me towards the theater number six. I shook the funny thoughts away from my head as we entered the dimly lit room. There was no way he could like me. He had never tried anything on me, not even a little kiss or inappropriate touch. I mean, we slept together, as in actually sleeping in the same bed, not sharing fluids and he never tried anything. Any guy who liked me would have tried something by now.

I tripped over one of the steps up the top and Gavin grabbed my hand to help steady me. He didn’t let go as we finished the walk to our seats, and even held it as we sat down. It was just Gavin being friendly, he was always like that. Right?

Suddenly my phone buzzed and I tore my hand away from his. He seemed reluctant but I didn’t give him a choice. The text was from a very gay friend of mine, and I smiled as I pictured his face.

Did you sneak out? Let me guess, Julie caught you and you’re in time out?

Laughing at the text, I replied quickly.

I’m not in time out, I’m actually out at the movies. So text you after the Wolverines!

I turned my phone on silent as the commercials and previews started rolling.

**

The dark lighting faltered and white streamed through the theater. I blinked a few times as the room was filled with light. Gavin stretched out, and I mimicked his formation. As soon as my hands were up in the air he attacked my belly.

“Stop,” I breathed as he finally ended the tickling.

“So how did you like the movie?” he asked as we stood up and made our way towards the doors.

I yawned as we mixed with the crowd of people pouring out. “It was good, I like that they changed it a bit but it would have been better if the couple in front of us hadn’t been all over each other the whole movie.”

Gavin laughed. “Yeah she practically jumped him right then in there.”

“It would have made a funny YouTube video though. ‘Young couple get it on at a public movie theater. Police had to pry them apart from their passionate love making.”

I giggled almost in disgust at my own words, and Gavin had a hard time holding back laughter.

“You know there probably is something out there like that.”

I nodded my head knowing understanding what he meant. Teens nowadays were so calm and normal about sex, like it was a walk in the park. I knew better than that though. I could only go that far with someone I truly felt comfortable and safe with. Someone I loved.

Suddenly a couple came into my view. The girls long blonde hair was cascading down her back in waterfall curls, and the guys arm was hooked across her waist. When they turned in our direction, I almost screamed. It wasn’t just any couple, it was Landon and his eyes were fixed on the busty girls cleavage.

A tang of something I hadn’t felt in since I was ten and Megan Fisher kissed Jimmy Delton in front of me on purpose rushed through my body.

Jealousy.

God I hate that word. Every aspect of it. No one wanted to feel jealous, if you went around jealous of everyone, people wouldn’t feel bad for you, they would talk about you and how self-conscience you were. But, if you didn’t ever feel jealous, then people thought you were a heartless bitch with no emotion. Either way you couldn’t win, and this situation was much worse.

I felt jealous of the stupid blonde wrapped in his arm, but I didn’t want to. Landon was a self-absorbed cocky jerk, despite the fact that he kept my secret hidden. Well at least tried. Gavin followed my line of gaze and snorted.

“Uh of course he has to be here. I mean, he won the scavenger hunt by like a second more, not even.”

That’s right; Landon had won the scavenger hunt and could leave. And of course he had to pick today out of all days. “Well you don’t think he would snitch on you right?”

Gavin pondered the question. “Nah, I mean he doesn’t like me much but he wouldn’t stoop that low.”

I nodded my head and turned back in Landon’s direction. I was surprised to see his eyes on me, but he looked just as shocked. Quickly averting my gaze, I pulled Gavin towards the front of the movie theater. Just as we were about to escape, Landon called out.

“Hey Mia over here!”

I practically pulled out my hair in frustration. Turning around, I heard Gavin heave a little sigh. Looked like we both didn’t want to talk to him.

I put on my fakest smile as he approached. “Oh wow, didn’t expect to see you here.”

“You either. I mean, maybe you Mia but Gavin I don’t remember you winning the scavenger hunt, oh yeah, that’s because I did.”

The smirk on his face was wide and it only grew when he noticed my frustration. “Yeah well we decided to take a little night out. But you won’t tattle will you?”

Landon’s eyes snapped towards Gavin. “Maybe, maybe not. I put a lot of hard work into that scavenger hunt, and here you are out for free.”

My eyes formed slits the size of daggers. “Landon grow up. We just wanted to hang out.”

He seemed a bit taken back by my cold response, and even the blonde girl on his arm gave me a dirty look. Who was she to judge? She probably met him two hours ago…

“Mia did you know that if Julie found out about this, you could get fired?”

Landon seemed as serious as serious could get. His face was expressionless, and I tried my hardest not to reach over and slap him across the face. It was a hard thing to do, control my anger. Then, suddenly he bent over laughing. When he finally stood back up, he was on the verge of tears.

“You should have seen your faces,” he choked out between breaths, “it was priceless.”

My eyes widened and I finally understood that he had been kidding the whole time. “Not funny,” I said crossing my arms over my chest.

“Yeah not cool dude,” Gavin added.

Landon was wiping the last of his tears away when he turned to the blonde. “This is Carly, Carly this is Gavin and Mia. Mia works at my summer camp and Gavin attends.”

She looked Gavin over and gave him a cute smile. When he eyes moved towards me, her grin turned into something totally fake. “Nice to meet you both.”

We both replied with the same thing and then everyone became silent. It was an awkward silence, not the kind that you could really get out of.

Finally Landon coughed. “Ah well we were going to go bowling if you wanted to come?”

I peered over at Gavin for an answer, but he seemed speechless. “Er, ah thanks for inviting us but we don’t want to impose on your little date, and we-“

“Oh you won’t be imposing, we’d love you to join us,” Carly said turning her attention towards Gavin.

Landon nodded his head towards me as if he were approving what she had said. Was it allowed of me to say no, or would that make me seem like a total bitch. I definitely did not want to spend the day with Landon and his new friend, but I couldn’t be mean, that would just make the situation worse.

“Ah-“

“Okay, sound like a plan,” Gavin cut me off before I sounded stupid.

I gave them all a little smile before turning around and heading for the doors. Well today was going to be fun…

Not.

Okay, so sorry for the long author's note:D

Hope you liked it… :D

And once again, it is much easier for me to upload shorter chapters than super long ones. If I updated a chapter with eight pages, you wouldn't see the next chapter for another month. I have a life other than writing, even though writing is one of the most important things I do with my time.

Please understand that.
