Ah this is the best birthday ever!
After the superb island holiday, weâre back home.
âMaybe I should do something for him too?â I mutter.
Rihito told me about Sam and Ryouma that how they were best of friends, the two brothers but then what the hell happened that they canât tolerate each other now, that he didnât tell me. Well looks like Iâll have to find out myself.
*phone rings*
âNice timing!â I thought picking up Saraâs call.
âHappy birthday!!â Sara sings as soon as I picked up.
âThank you Sara. But youâre calling me just now? Very bad! â
After the Hawaii trip, Sara and I have become close friends.
âI thought youâd be busy with your surprise party.â she replies.
âAnd you didnât come!â I complain.
âUmm Sam had some work so...â
âSam had some work or the demon didnât invite him?â
âDemon?â
âyeah my almighty demon husband! but nowadays heâs very much into his prince charming mode so maybe I shouldnât call him that.â I reply.
âhaha, youâre funny, Teresa.â I hear her laugh.
âYou didnât come because of my idiot husband, right? You should have, itâs my bâday not his!â
âNo, itâs not his fault. Sam had some work.â
âOkay then, What about tonight? Does Sam have work?â
âwait, heâs right here. Talk to him yourself.â
âHey Teresa, Happy birthday!â Sam takes over the call and wishes me.
âThanks Sam, but Iâll not accept your wishes like this. Meet me tonight with your wife, my treat and yes no excuses. Itâs my birthday, brother-in-law.â
âAs you wish, birthday girl.â He replies.
âYay! Then Iâll text you the time and location, be there okay. See you tonight then.â
âSee you, bye.â
âYes one work is done.â I jump excitedly.
I call my husband next.
âWhat?â My husband picks up the call.
âWhat what? Canât you be more polite? Anyway what are you doing?â
âWorking.â He replies in a monotonous tone.
âAh, of course.â I roll my eyes. âYouâre free tonight?â
âWhy?â
âItâs my birthday. I am taking you out on dinner, my treat.â I happily announce.
âNo need weâve already celebrated your birthday.â He refuses bluntly.
âYouâve given me such a wonderful surprise! Now itâs my turn. I want to thank you properly. So, you have work or not, I donât care you have to come. Iâll text you the address and time, youâre not allowed to say no cause till midnight itâs still my birthday.â
âFine.â I hear him sigh, âIâll be there.â
âDonât you dare ditch me!â I threaten him.
âI wonât. Bye.â
âOkay, have a nice da--y--â He cuts the call before I can finish my sentence. Why is he so difficult to understand?
âWell whatever... another down...Yes!â
Evening
âOi you got the message right?â I call my husband to remind him about the dinner.
âYeah.â He replies.
âjust to remind you, you have to reach there 8 pm sharp.â
âI know, Teresa. Youâre calling me for the 100th time, I know itâs 8 pm sharp and Iâll be there. Now can I go back to my work? DO NOT CALL AGAIN!â
âOkay, See you then.â
I cut the call.
Dinner
âWhy arenât they here yet?â I mutter looking at my watch.
ââI am here, 8 pm sharp. Where are you?ââ My husband who was sitting beside me clicks his fingers in front of my eyes.
âYeah?â
âWhereâs your mind wandering? Whom are we waiting for?â He questions raising his eyebrows.
âSome special guests.â I smile at him.
Just then I spot Sam and Sara entering.
âOh! Here!â I wave at them.
They wave back and walk towards us.
My husband gets up as soon as he notice my special guests, but I pull him back to the seat.
Sam and Ryouma both give each other a death glare.
âWhat are they doing here?â My husband scowls at me. Oh well welcome back Mr. demon.
âItâs my birthday and theyâre my guest. So shut up and behave.â I whisper at him holding his hands.
âCome sit.â I point at the chairs opposite us.
They take the seat hesitantly.
âThen enjoy your company, Iâm out of here.â My husband stands again.
âYouâre going no where.â I pull his hands.
He glares at me.
âYour glares are useless. Itâs my birthday, Iâll invite whoever i want.â
âthen iâm not needed here you can have fun with them.â He starts to leave again.
âStop being rude. They are not complaining then why are you?â I pull him back.
âI know right, theyâre so sweet then why donât you leave me alone and enjoy your time with them.â He stands up again.
âHow can i leave you, my dear husband? Youâre needed here.â I pull him and hug his arms tightly.
âLeave me.â He tries to get up.
âIf you donât want me to create a scene here, shut your mouth, be a good husband and sit down! And i mean it, Iâm actually quite an expert in creating scenes!â I whisper in his ears and glare at him.
He almost yells but as this is a public place my dear husband doesnât want to disturb others so he lowers his voice,
âYou know what? Do whatever you want.â He tries to shrug my hands off him.
âPlease, You said youâll do anything i want, remember our deal before going to Hawaii, itâs still pending.â I tighten my grip on him.
âAsk for something else.â
âNo, I want this. Itâs my birthday! Please! please!â I make puppy dogâs eyes and whine like a child.
âFine.â He sighs and rests his back against the chair.
âOh your so sweet.â I hug him.
âOk fine now would you mind?â He glares at me pointing my arms grabbing his.
âOk whatever you say, dear husband <3â I smile at him finally letting go of him arms.
âSorry.â I apologize to the couple in front of us.
âSo itâs my birthday today and no one is allowed to get angry, create a scene and everyone should smile and have good times together, okay?â I clap my hands together.
Awkward silence.
âAnd no one is allowed to be mum, everyone here should talk.â I say with my arms crossed.
âAh! Iâm so hungry. Letâs order something, hmm?â I try breaking the silence.
âLetâs see what we have here?â I look up at the menu.
âoi husband stop sulking and help me with the dishes.â I poke him.
âWhy do you need me, if youâre going to decide everything by yourself, then deal with it too!â He looks the other way.
âOh my! Stop being a child! Heâs your big brother and sister-in-law, show some respect, will you?â I pull his cheeks.
âNo oneâs my brother here.â He pouts.
âPlease!â I look at him with puppy dogâs eyes.
He sighs.
âThis!â He points at the menu.
âOkay. One mushroom soup then?â I smile at him.
âArenât you allergic to mushroom?â says Sara.
âReally?â I look at my husband.
âThatâs none of your business!â He glares at Sara then at me.
âOkay letâs forget the mushroom... Iâll order something else.â After a minute we order our food and again thereâs an awkward silence.
âHey...hmm... here.â Sara hands me a wrapped gift. âhappy birthday!â
âAww thank you.â I smile at her. âI was just thinking where is my birthday gift?â
âAh so you called them here for your birthday gift?â I hear my husbandâs arrogant mouth speak. âSo I am getting tortured for this? You couldâve asked me, I would have gotten you plenty.â
I glare at him to which he rolls his eyes.
âOh my are you jealous that I might like her gift more than yours? Well hmm... her gift actually might be better than yours.â I laugh and hit his arms.
âOh yeah? If you didnât like my gifts then why are you wearing them at all?â He points at my neck and suddenly plants a kiss on the back of my hand, the one Iâm wearing the bracelet on, ell even the dress Iâm wearing are all the gifts from him.
I blush furiously at his sudden gesture and he smirks.
So heâs taking his revenge on me, that Iâm making him have dinner with his brother? Well you donât get to!
âWhy? Of course to see your happy face when you see me wearing them, dear husband.â I smile at him and I plant a kiss on his cheek.
âAre we doing the lovey dovey husband and wife act again?â I whisper in his ears.
âYouâre getting better.â He smiles at me.
âYou bet.â I smile back at him.
As I turn back to Sara and Sam, theyâre smiling at each other then back at us.
âHmm?â I tilt my head in confusion.
The dinner is set on the table and we start to dig in.
I breathe a sigh of relief. this is going very well than I expected.
After the dinner, Sara grabs my hand.
âHmm?â I look at her.
âThank you Teresa, for inviting us. Thank you Ryouma,â She looks at my husband, âI never thought weâll be able to hang out like this again, I never got to apologize to you properly. Thank you and sorry for...â
âOkay cut the crap! Iâm still here because this girl here, her stubbornness known no bound and your sorry you can keep it to yourself.â Ryouma replies so coldly that even when the words are not directed to me, Iâm the one getting goosebumps here.
âYeah sorry and Iâm happy for you and her.â She replies as she smiles at me. âAfter that incident when you said you wonât marry, I felt responsible--â
âWho do you think you are? Donât be so conceited!â He bangs on the table and I flinch. What the hell? âYouâre no one! Just a manipulative woman who knows how to get her work done, using whomever you want, however you want.â
âOkay enough Ryouma! You canât talk to my wife like that!â Sam yells at him.
âOh are you going to hide behind your husband again?â Ryouma ignores Sam and glares at Sara.
âCalm down husband, stop creating a scene.â I try to intervene.
âItâs all your fault, who told you to invite them?â He yells at me.
âNo need to yell at her, itâs not her mistake. Is this the way to treat your wife?â I find Sam yelling back.
âSheâs my wife, Iâll do whatever i want. Whether i love her, hate her, yell at her thatâs none of your damn business.â My husband yells back at Sam.
âOkay, peace. Letâs forget about it âkay? Letâs continue with the dinner?â I make peace sign with my fingers.
âYou stay out of this.â the demon yells at me and I flinch.
Okay! Iâm starting to lose my cool now.
âHey, donât you think youâre being rude?â I glare at him. âSara is trying to apologize and mend things here--â
âWhat do you know?â he grabs my arms and shouts at me.
âOuch! What the hell?â I try to shrug my hands off his grip but he tightens his grip.
âOkay I get it, I donât know anything but sheâs at least trying to apologize so i think you should at least listen to--â
âYou think? Really? Did you even use this stupid brain of yours in your entire life? and who the hell are you to interfere in my life? Donât forget your just a con-â He stops.
âYouâre a nobody! you get that?â He points his finger at me.
As his hurtful words pierce my heart, I feel pain in my chest. Am I the only one who thought weâve come closer?
âAfter all this time? Am I really no one to you? I donât mean anything?â I look at him with tears in my eyes, my voice trembling.
âHell no.â He scowls. âYouâre nothing but a brat Iâm stuck with! And didnât I warn you not to stick your nose in my business? Pretending all this time, did you actually forget who you are?â He glares at me. âI just have to tolerate you for next 8 months then iâll kick you out---â Before he could finish his line, I throw a glass of wine at his face.
âWhat the hell?â He shouts. âYou damn woma--â
Just like I thought one is not enough so I throw another one too.
âThank you for attending this dinner, Iâm sorry for the scene created here.â I turn to Sam and Sara who were staring at us with their mouth wide open.
âYou wanted to create a scene, Iâve given the perfect performance to the audience iâm going home and donât you dare to try to talk to me again, jerk!â I glare at my drenched husband and walk away.
