SEVENTEEN
Speaking Isn't My Strong Point
Sighing into my hands, I began wiping my sleepy eyes. In English, I still was working from a huge text book.
However surprisingly, Mason showed up to class today.
"Mason, don't you think it's totally unfair how we have to actually do work just because our parents didn't sign the permission slip?" I whispered, sliding my glasses up as they started to droop from my face.
Mason glanced at me before lifting his pen to finally start writing, "Not particularly what I had in mind for today."
I scoffed and rolled my eyes, "Like you care. You haven't been here for the past two lessons. Where've you been?"
"Out." Was his curt reply.
"Where exactly?" I pestered, trying desperately to get an answer from him. Mason was like a robot. Difficult to communicate with and also made of hard steel.
Gosh, his muscles though...
Mason sent a cold glare my way and mumbled quick words under his breath. It sounded a bit like 'Getting buckets for my dog'. Strange really.
"So wh-"
"Just stop, Leia!" Mason suddenly yelled out, causing the whole class to stop their conversations and dart their judging eyes to us. "Whatever you are going to say just drop it."
Closing my mouth quickly, I averted my eyes back to my work and tried covering my embarrassed face by my hair.
Way to embarrass yourself, Leia.
I even was embarrassed in front of my own conscience. Shutting my eyes shut for a second to calm my flaming cheeks, I waited patiently until the bell rang for my next lesson.
I didn't want to sit in that room with everyones' accusing eyes hovering over me. They all knew I had made the beast angry yet again.

Slurping up my delicious chocolate milk, I watched as Sara began to stand up and dance to a song. I didn't know what the song was, but it seemed that Sara enjoyed it very much.
Throughout Sara's dance, Ashley was laughing and nearly choking to death at the sight infront of her. Whilst that was happening, I just stared at her with a blank look on my face. No, I wasn't being a spoilsport. I was just trying to get the attention off me as she danced around.
The reason to that was because Sara had made a huge crowd of people look over at us.
Unfortunately, Mason was in that group of people. Why couldn't he had been in KAR or something for today like he usually would be? Why did it had to be now of all days?
"Kill me now," I mumbled, scrunching up my face before hiding it completely in my arms on top of the table.
After a while, I heard the scraping of a seat pulling back, which had me slowly lifting my head to see the intruder that had disturbed my rest.
"What do you want, Mason? To come snap at me again?" I snarkily said, narrowing my honey golden eyes at him.
Mason's eyes soon flickered to remorse and regret. He should had been feeling bad. I hated being embarrassed. Especially by some egotistical boy.
"I was mad," he answered with a slight pout forming on his plump, pink lips. "Having a bad day actually."
Scoffing, I shook my head at his response, "Everyone has bad days. No need to take it out on others though."
"Stop being so grumpy all of a sudden," Mason remarked with a little irritation in his voice.
Ashley, hearing our conversation, picked up her large science book and threw it at an oblivious Mason who was too busy staring at me to notice.
With a loud bang and a screech of pain, Mason fell to the ground, groaning in pain.
"What the heck was that for?" He yelled back with a vein bulging out of the side of his face.
"You were annoying me," Ashley grumbled angrily. "So...I decided to throw a neurology book at you because the amount of brain cells in your actual brain isn't enough for this book."
(A/N: my friend came up with this beautiful line so go and send your love to her lotus7543)
"Crazy chick," Mason grumbled under his breath, rubbing his forehead that would soon have a rather big bruise on it.
Grabbing another book from the table, Ashley began to throw it when Mason held up his hands in surrender.
"I'm sorry!" Mason apologised profusely. "Sorry. So sorry."
Ashley chuckled and whispered into my ear, "Grovel like the beggar you are."
Bursting into a fit of giggles, I watched as Mason began to get up from the floor.
"When you're done laughing, meet me behind the school where the bike sheds are," Mason ordered before stomping out of the canteen with shaking shoulders.
"Like hell you're going!" Sara shouted out all of a sudden.
I guessed she was against the whole idea of Mason talking to me.
"Sara, I feel bad enough for what Ashley did," I admitted, lowering my head to the dirty canteen floor. "I can't not go. It'll make me feel like Angela. Letting others down."
Ashley's eyes widened at her name along with a mad Sara.
Nodding at their expressions, I smiled briefly before running into the direction Mason went.

Wandering around the corner, I saw Mason leaning against the brick wall, watching a few birds peck at the grass.
"Working hard to get food for your family?" He spoke out to the birds.
My eyes scrunched in confusion as he started walking towards the birds. Mason crouched down and smiled sheepishly at the birds, "Family means everything to you birds. I learnt about you guys in year six."
Creeping further to Mason, I stared at him in absolute awe. He was speaking to the birds.
"You do everything to help your family out. Everything possible..." He trailed off before gloomily glancing down at the ground.
Like they understood him, the birds tweeted before gliding through the skies and back to their families.
After a few seconds, I decided to announce my presence, "Hey, Mason."
Standing up and spinning around to me, Mason came over to me and grinned cheekily.
"You came," he breathed out like he was preparing hinself. "Didn't think you would come."
"Then you were wrong," I shrugged, stuffing my hands into my pockets. "Although...my friends weren't so keen."
"Ahh, friendship," he rolled his eyes. "How wonderful friendship is."
Curious, I spoke what was running through my mind, "Why the sarcastic tone? Did Angela and Kane do something?"
Gritting his teeth, Mason shook his head.
That meant no, but I wasn't having it.
"C'mon, Mason!" I whined, being my usual persistent-self. "At least tell me something. You can trust me."
"Something's up with Kane."
"Huh?"
"You heard me," he replied quickly. "Kane hasn't been himself recently. He's being weird."
"How weird exactly?" I asked.
"I don't really know that's the thing," he murmured. "All I know is, Kane has been ignoring Angela and has been really fidgety too."
"Oh."
"Yeah..." He drawled out.
Silence surrounded us before I broke it with yet again another question. No surprise there.
"What were you actually going to tell me?"
Raising his eyebrows, he thought for a moment before answering, "I was a bit off on you when I gave you a ride home last week and-"
Unfortunately, the bell rang, signalling the end of lunch.
Parting my lips, I huffed out a breath.
"Guess I'll finish the story tomorrow or something," he muttered quickly as he rushed around the corner to get to class.
Sighing, I massaged my temple. I was so confused that a head ache started to erupt in my head. It was one of those irritating 'can-you-just-go-away' ones. Like it had no purpose at all.
Like you then...
Oh shut up!
