Chapter 67
Honey, I Don't Dare Again (Amber and Jared) novel
Chapter 67 Makenna is Missing Amber raised an eyebrow, âYouâre looking for Miss Gardner? But why come to us, isnât she with you?â
Jared drooped down his eyes, âSheâs not with me.â
âNot with you?â Cole gasped, then let out a wry smirk, âWhat, sheâs missing?â
Jared said nothing.
Suddenly, Coleâs smile turned into a look of surprise, âWait, for real?â
Amber looked to Jared, âMiss Gardner is missing, so you came to us to look for her. Do you think we secretly hid her somewhere, Mr. Farrell?â
âMakenna went to use the washroom and never returned. This was the place where she and you guys had a quarrel.â Jared looked at her directly.
Cole snorted, âWe have some kind of quarrel with her, so we decided to kidnap her? What kind of logic is that? Everyone knows that weâre the first suspects if something were to happen to her. Weâd be nuts to do something like that.â
Jared pursed his lips but said nothing.
Deep down, he knew the possibility of Makenna being here was slim.
But he still wanted to try his luck here.
âMr. Farrell.â Amber pulled Cole by his clothes to the side, and she took a step toward Jared. âI did see Miss Gardner at the washroom, but I left before she did. I donât know where she went after that, but maybe you can go check the security camera by the restroom.â
âI did, thereâs not a trace of her.â Jared said as he clenched his fists.
Makenna didnât return to the private room, so he tried calling but couldnât reach her. He had the restaurantâs manager sent staff to help search, but there was not a trace of Makenna.
The strange thing was, all of the surveillance cameras in the restaurant were functioning just fine, but thereâs not one that caught sight of Makenna.
Something was amiss.
Cole puckered his lips, âIf none of the cameras saw her, then maybe she was purposefully evading them and decided to hole up somewhere to, you know, see how worried youâd be over her. Sounds like something that drama queen would do.â
Jaredâs face turned gloomy.
Amber gave Cole a look to stop him from talking.
Calling Jaredâs little princess a drama queen right to his face, wasnât Cole just asking for it?
âAh, sorry, Mr. Farrell, just his force of habit. Please donât take it to the heart.â Amber gave a halfâhearted apology, then looked at the watch on her wrist, âWell, itâs getting late, Cole andâl really gotta get going. Mr. Farrell, hope you find Ms. Gardner soon, bye!â
Done talking, she threw a quick smile at Jared, then grabbed Coleâs wrist and hurried off.
Looking at the joyful couple run off, Jared felt incredibly fretful inside.
For the six years theyâve been married, Amber always looked deadpan. The second they divorced, a ton of men sprung up around her, and she was being so cheerful. Such woman of easy virtue was nothing compared to Makenna.
Thinking of his grandmotherâs criticisms against Makenna and how she warned him not to regret getting divorced from Amber, he found it laughable.
Regret?
No way!
He shook Amber out of his head, and swiped open his phone to make a call, âStill no signs of her?â
âNone. Iâve searched the entire area, even nearby the restaurant. Thereâs no sign of Miss Gardner, Mr. Farrell. Shall we call the police?â
Ben stood at the restaurantâs entrance, scratching his head.
Jared gripped the phone tightly, his voice sounded low and depressed, âItâs no use. Thereâs no telling whether her disappearance is an accident or not, so the police wonât handle it. Not until at least 48 hours has passed.â
âWhat do we do now?â Ben glanced around and shivered in the cold.
Jared was silent for a while, then said, âTake some men and keep looking around the area, careful with any hint of Makenna.â
âGot it!â
Jared hung up and left the restaurant bonding for the Gardner residence be He quickly arrived.
Jared followed the servant into the house, where Trenton and his wife happened to be coming. down the stairs. Seeing him alone, Trenton asked, âJared, whereâs Makenna?â
Mrs. Gardner glanced behind Jared, âIs she still outside?â
âMrs. Gardner, Makenna is missing!â Jared looked at the couple, then said with a heavy heart.
Mrs. Gardner froze, âWhat do you mean sheâs missing?â
Jared lowered his head.
Trentonâs face turned pale, and he questioned Jared loudly, âWasnât she with you, how could she have gone missing?â
âWhile we were eating, she went to the restroom, but never came back. I sent men to search for her everywhere, but we still havenât found her. I fear something may have happened to her.â
Jared replied, with an apologetic look on his face.
Mrs. Gardner rolled her eyes and fainted.
âHoney!â Trenton shouted, then hurried to catch his wifeâs limp body.
Jared also rushed over to help.
The two of them carried her to the sofa.
Trenton kept pinching her to try to wake her up.
Finally, Mrs. Gardner coughed a few times and came back to consciousness, then she pounded at her chest as she cried out, âTrenton, our dear, sweet Makenna, sheâs missing...â
âI know.â Trenton held her in his arms and gently patted her back, âDonât worry, Iâll find her!â
The second he said this, Jaredâs phone rang.
He took a look at the screen, then picked up the call, âSpeak.â
âMr. Farrell, we found some clues to Miss Gardnerâs whereabouts.â Ben was on the other end, and he spoke excitedly, âI heard from a bystander that Miss Gardner was kidnapped by a masked man, and forced into a van.â
âA van?â Jaredâs eyes narrowed like an angry lion, âGet footage from all the surveillance cameras in the vicinity, I want the path and plate of that van.â
âGot it.â Ben nodded.
As soon as Jared hung up, Trenton and his wife stared at him, âWhat is it? Is there news about Makenna?â
âSheâs been kidnapped.â Jared said in a tone that hinted murderous intent.
The second she heard this, Mrs. Gardner let out a sharp cry, and nearly fainted again.
Trentonâs face was also incredibly ill, he gritted his teeth and hissed, âWho dares to touch my daughter!â
âWe donât know yet, but once we find them...â
Trenton cut Jared off, âOnce we find them, Iâll handle it, and make them wish theyâd never been.

Nobody could mess with his daughter!
If they dared to kidnap her, then theyâd have better be ready to face his wrath!
Jared had no objections to Trentonâs plans. âSir, letâs call the police first. Now that weâre at least certain Makennaâs disappearance was due to kidnapping, the police will take care of it. After all, weâre limited on manpower. With the policeâs help, we should be able to find her even faster.â
It was a reasonable suggestion, and Trenton was about to nod in approval.
Suddenly, Mrs. Gardner broke out, shouting at the top of her lungs, âNo, no police, donât call the police. I canât afford to lose Makenna again, I canât!â
After she finished with her outburst, she was shaking all over, and there was a horrified look on her face. She did not look like the usual graceful lady at all.
Jared stared at Mrs. Gardner in appall, âSir, Mrs. Gardner, she...â
Trenton hugged her tightly and coaxed her like a baby, âThere, there, no police, no police.â
Mrs. Gardner heard his words, and stopped shaking so violently. But the fear on her face was still there.
Trenton stroked her hair gently, and let out a huge sigh, âShe has a condition.â
