Nerdy Girl Is Not So Nerdy [EDITING]Words: 18952

Errm, okay what the fuck just happened?? I can't thank you guys enough xxxxxxxx

1 week earlier

After checking the mail, my face lightens up ten times more than it already has. I just got my report card and not to brag, I did fucking amazing. Without hesitation, I go straight down to Melanie's wanting to shove it into her face. I open the door without knocking, going straight to the kitchen where I see Melanie making herself a sandwich, her mom watering her plants and her dad at the table reading magazines, eating chocolate muffin's with what I assume is a hot chocolate because he usually does have a hot chocolate somewhere around.

I look at the table and see more muffin's, cookies and some waffles on his white plate, he really does like his sweet stuff.

"Morning Mr. Rivers" I loudly greet him as soon as I get closer to the kitchen counter, "Mrs. Rivers" I send her a light nod, getting a smile in return.

"Guess what I got in the mail?" I proudly ask her, a smirk playing at the corners of my mouth.

"Report card, I know Dylan. It might be a shock to you but everyone got them" she says in one of her matter-of-fact voices that I hate. Like I know she's clever, but she doesn't need to rub it in my face.

"You're so funny Melanie, I almost got a heart attack from laughing" I over exaggerate a very loud laugh, putting my hand on my chest just to be a sarcastic jerk.

She snaps the paper out of my hand, her eyes scanning it, when suddenly her eyes widen in surprise, "I know, I got a B in both Science and Maths-" I cock both of my eyebrows at her, but I get interrupted by her, "You got an A* in physical education?" she shouts her statement out, her mouth falling to the ground.

"That's why you're so surprised? I just got a fucking - I mean, awesome - B in Maths and you're looking at my p.e. grade?" I correct my language when Melanie's dad looks at me. I can't believe that I not only passed but managed to get a B in maths, wow.

"Yeah because I only got a B. I didn't get a B since third grade" she complains and I mouth a wow to myself which she catches, "I knoooooow" she whines.

"I meant wow as in, wow you're not even proud of me for passing" I clear out, "Well done Dylan, I see these lessons of Melanie's really paid off" her mother compliments me.

"Thank you. At least someone's proud of me" I nonchalantly say.

"I am proud of you Dylan, very." she walks around the counter, coming closer to me while standing on the tip of her toes, to reach my level and pecks my lips a smirk automatically forming on my face.

"Hey, you take that outside!" her dad catches her kissing me and decides to yell at me, "It wasn't me Mr. Rivers" I put my hands up in surrender then pointing at Melanie as a smirk forms on her face. Now that is something that very rarely happens.

"I'm just sad about getting a B" she states so I take the paper off the counter, wanting to examine.

My eyes scan down the piece of paper with grades on and all I can see is A's or A*'s and then that one lonely B. Don't you hate it when someone gets all A's and then complains about getting a B when you're there thanking god for passing?

"Try getting F's" I scoff and a horrid expression passes her face, "Don't tell me you just imagined it" I rhetorically say, because I know she did. "You know me too well" is all she responds with.

"Oh my god, we're going to be late!" she exclaims, grabbing a blue over the shoulder bag and drags me outside. On my way out, I manage to grab a red apple, since she didn't offer any of those cookies her dad had.

On our way to school, we see people huddling up with report cards in their hands, some people beaming with joy, others actually crying.

After we pass the crying hot mess girls, I see Tasha coming towards us.

"I swear, if she's coming towards us, I'm going to punch her" Melanie says to me through her gritted teeth and I laugh a little.

"Hey guys, have you seen Miss Williams anywhere?" She makes eye contact with me but before I can respond, I hear Melanie open her mouth and I start laughing, "What a coincidence, there's students everywhere, you could have asked any of them, but you chose us, to what do we owe the pleasure?"

Without saying anything back, she gives Melanie a death glare and then faces me again, but somehow I can't stop laughing. When did Melanie turn so savage? I think to myself.

"Have you seen her then?" she asks again and I just shake my head still laughing from the comment Mel made.

"Anyway, how did you do in your exams?" she asks me more than she asks Mel, "I got A's and B's actually" I say holding back a laugh because I know exactly what's coming next.

"Good. I passed all of my exams too" she states, "I didn't ask you though" I start to laugh at my own comeback, "Keep walking cotton candy" I burst into laughter immediately when Melanie makes her last remark. Oh god, she's good.

Tasha huffs before storming off in all pink again. Seconds later I see my squad including Alicia, coming towards both me and Mel. "Would it be bad to take her to prom?" Alex asks me as soon as he's close enough, checking Tasha out from behind as she's still walking away from us.

"Yeah!" we all say in unison, brows furrowed, thinking why on earth would you want Tasha to be your date? I'd rather go with Tom if going alone wasn't an option.

"I tried. But hey, I still don't have a date" he says looking at me with pleading eyes. I know that look exactly and it's not happening.

He wants me to hook him up with someone. Someone that I slept with, since I only slept with hot girls. "Don't give me that look Alex, it's not happening" I say with my arm around Melanie's shoulder.

"Oh come on man, it's not like am actually gonna be with her, I'm only gonna take her to prom, that's it" he whines throwing his hands up in the air. I know exactly who he's talking about, it's a girl that he liked for a while, red head Briana from Oakland high, she's one year older than us, so now she's at college, that's if she went.

"No. I don't even have her number anymore" I respond with the same tone that he used on me, "You do realise, I'm still here and I can hear everything, right?" Melanie tucks on my arm, looking up at me like a midget.

"I know babe, sorry" I lean down to kiss her lips but Alex interrupts me again, I hate that guy. "Dylan, bro come on" he whines once more.

"Can you please tell him something?" I look down at Melanie who's rolling her eyes, "Go on your own Alex, it's not like you're lucky enough to find anyone in a week" she says and everyone starts laughing. Looking down at her I can tell she's proud of herself for making that comment.

Suddenly someone comes from behind me, scaring me to death, "I'd go with you, but I'm a little girl, aren't I?" a short, brunette girl sarcastically says, squinting her eyes at Michael. She also happens to be his little sister.

"Get lost, Hannah" Michael speaks up, "Will you be going to college this year?" she asks him abut his grades, knowing her she's probably hoping he failed everything, "I got a few A's actually, thanks for asking" he says with a smile on his face, making her angry.

With a sigh she decides to stomp off as well, "Bye Banana!" I shout back at her as she turns around and puts her middle finger up in the air making me laugh.

When the bells starts ringing, we all make our way into the building. Me and the boys go straight into the football changing rooms, we have a big game today.

We're playing against the East Hawks. Last year with lost 28-29 with them. One fucking point. But this year it's not going to happen because there's going to be people from very good colleges inspecting everyone playing and I have to play my best today.

As soon as we get dressed into our red and white football uniforms, we go straight to the pit, waiting for coach O'Connor. Instead of waiting around for him, we all start to stretch out, wanting to be prepared as ever.

When he comes, he uses his whistle to get our attention and we all huddle up around him.

"Today is the day we've all been waiting for, gentlemen. There'll be people out there watching you from different colleges, offering you their best offers, trainings, scholarships, but it's up to you and you only to give them a reason to offer you those things. You'll have the whole school chanting 'Go Sharks!' including myself. Today is the day we make it into the history of football. Today is the day we beat East Hawks asses!"

As soon as coach O'Connor finishes his little pep talk, the team starts whistling from the top of our lungs with our fists up above us, making some students that are in the science labs look through the windows.

"Now, I don't wanna see any slacking boys, 30 meter sprint, on the line!" our coach yells his commands. We get onto the white line to follow his orders and as she shouts ready, set, go, we start running to the end of the line and then back.

After doing it 3 times, he gives us a 50 meter sprint with a burpee in the middle.

I feel sweat dripping down my forehead, when he decides to give us a 5 minute break. Our coach is really something, I don't know if he's preparing us for a game or for world war III.

"You okay man?" I ask Johnny when I see him pouring water from his water bottle onto his head, "If it's gonna be as sunny as it is now when we actually play, I'm gonna suffocate" he complains and I laugh, "You're not gonna suffocate. Come on man, lets get back to the pitch" I pat his back and we start jogging back to the team.

"Okay boys, that was good, now I want you to give me a hundred sit ups and 50 press ups, go!" we all sigh before getting down on our backs ready to take on the challenge. I think he's actually trying to kill us.

Before we know it, our workout session is over and we can finally jump into the showers. As we make it to the changing rooms, I see Melanie waiting for me outside, I walk towards her and hug her. She's so petite.

"I'll have a quick shower and I'll be right back okay?" I tell her, jumping further into the locker room. After I was done with my shower, I walk back to the main entrance of the changing room to see that Melanie is nowhere to be seen.

I walk further into the corridor but see no one in sight, "hey man, you seen Melanie by any chance?" I ask Peter who's also on our team. "Yeah, I think she went out onto the field" he says, continuing to walk on, I lightly nod my head at him as a thanks and make my way to the pitch.

Entering the field through the back entrance, I make my way to the top of the audience seats. I gawk at the only person on the field, awkwardly making jumping jacks. You gotta love Melanie. As a small smile finds a way to my face, I lick my bottom lip before shouting from the very top of the seats, "Nice moves!"

She instantly turns around to the sound of my voice, scared as if she just seen a ghost. I start laughing when I catch her expression and she starts waving at me to come down.

Without hesitation I jog down the stairs until I reach the little wooden gate that allows you to enter the field. As I get closer to her, she gropes the collars of my red sport jacket pulling me closer to her.

With a smirk on my lips, I get closer to her myself, chuckling, "You know we shouldn't -well you, really should be here. It's not allowed for anyone other than the team to step foot onto the field" I warn, "Don't tell me the that the bad boy is scared" she teases, her arms wrapped around my neck pulling me lower to her lips.

I bite back a laugh, the same smirk on my face. Before I get to kiss her, we hear coach O'Connor yelling at us from the back of the entrance, "God damn it Cooper, if you want to have picnics, have them in the audience seats at least!"

I take a look at the blanket with food laid on the pitch behind Melanie. We both chortle pulling away from each other, "Why do I always get blamed for things I don't do?" I ask her because I would actually like to know the answer to it.

"Because you're the bad boy" she says getting closer again, I shake my head "A minute ago you indicated that I wasn't"

"Well... maybe a little" she says laughing, still getting closer to my lips, urgently wanting to kiss me, "But I know you're a softie inside" she winks at me and smirks. Okay that's enough of teasing.

She wraps her arms around my neck pulling me lower to meet her lips but before our lips touch I bring my hand in front of my mouth stopping her from kissing me and kissing my hand instead, "We should really take the food to the top, we don't wanna piss O'Connor off. Besides, I'm a softie" A smirk still on my face I let out a giggle. How's that for teasing?

"I hate you, I really do" her smile getting wider and she soon begins to laugh, "Oh stop it, every guy knows that hate is actually just another word for love" I say teasing her further.

We pick the food up, as well as the blanket and take it with us to the top of the audience seats, making it comfortable for ourselves, we put the blanket on the seats and the food on top of the blanket, turning it into a little table.

"As much as I'd love to eat that pizza, I can't because O'Connor would probably disqualify me if he saw me eating it before the game" I say, telling her I'm probably going to pass.

"I know, that's why I brought this" she opens up a plastic container with a blue lid, revealing some rice with chicken. Having Melanie in your life is a blessing, I think every guy deserves a Melanie.

With a small smile, I lunge over to her wanting to kiss her for bringing me food but she instantly backs away, I look at her in a confused look and I see her smirk, "You didn't kiss me when I wanted a kiss" she purses her lips making me laugh, is this supposed to be payback?

"How d'you feel about this game?" she makes a conversation after five minutes of eating in quiet. I shrug, "Very good actually, well compared to last time" I correct myself.

"You mean when you lost?" she asks making my spoon fall onto the floor.

"See what you just did?" I blame her so she bend down to pick my spoon up from the floor and then throws it into my rice, "Here, you can have it back then" she laughs at how dirty the spoon is and she just threw it into my rice.

"That is evil. It is actually evil." Seconds after staring at the pizza slice in her hand, I unexpectedly lunge forwards and bite a piece off, "Payback" I state before turning around with my back towards her and then laying down on the blanket that's laid out on the seats, placing my head on her thighs, looking at her face upside down.

"How do you even know we lost?" I ask her and she starts running her fingers through my hair. This position is actually very comfortable.

"I was there Dylan, I don't live under a rock"

"You came to see me? Like really?" I ask in disbelief.

"Well not you in particular, I kinda hated you if you must know, but yes I was there" she responds, "No I mean, you actually did something else besides studying?" I sarcastically state, laughing my ass off because of how funny I am. I'm really not. She immediately slaps my shoulder and I hear her giggling.

"I hated you too by the way" I say wanting to return the evil comment.

"No you didn't. You didn't even know I existed, yet I was sitting one row down from you in maths"

"I'm sorry Mel" I say giving her puppy eyes because it's true, I was a jerk and she really did hate me, which is weird cause now we're together.

"It's okay, you love me now" I nod and she lowers her head almost down to her thighs to reach my lips before softly kissing them.

After lunch I get back onto the pitch, ready to give it my all. I've done so good this year, I won't let stupid East High Hawks take my scholarship away from me.

Three more hours of being on the pitch and we get to go home, thank god, I need some rest. We've actually been playing team on team to practise different combinations of defence etc.

I get home, going straight into the kitchen to see my dad making dinner, "Where's mom?" I ask him with a frown on my face. "She's upstairs in bed" he shortly replies. I take off upstairs to greet my mom. It's been very hard for her, she's getting worse day by day and as much as I don't want to admit, I'm getting really scared.

"Hey mom, how you feeling?" I ask but instantly regret it. What a stupid question to ask, my mother has cancer and I ask her how she's feeling.

"I'm alright Dylan, more importantly, how are you?" she asks with a faint smile on her face, I can tell she's loosing energy really quickly and even small movements hurt her. It's phenomenal how my mother is in so much pain but she still chooses to put me first before anyone else, that only shows her unconditional motherly love.

With a fake smile, holding tears back, I decide to tell her about the day, "I'm good. I got my report card today and I have like 6 hours until my final big game" I pull out my report card, handing it to her.

As her eyes scan the paper in front of her, I see her eyes tearing up, "I'm so proud of you Dylan, I just want you to know that. When I leave this earth-"

"Don't talk like that mom" I quickly cut her off before she could say another word that sent shivers down my spine, just thinking about it.

She slaps my arm, "Let me finish" she says giggling a tiny bit. I love how even in a situation like this, it doesn't stop her from being my mom and slapping the shit out of me. I let out a small laugh as well, letting her tell me what she wants to.

"I just want you to know that I couldn't be more prouder than I already am, whatever you do with your life, I'm sure you'll make a good decision and make me prouder when I'll be up there-" I cut her off again because it psychically hurts me listening to stuff that's coming out of her mouth right now.

"Mom, if you don't stop talking like that I'm gonna leave"

"Shh, be quiet, I'm not dying for god sake" she exclaims a little louder. I probably pissed her off a little but she can't expect me to be alright with what she's saying to me, it's like she's saying goodbye already.

"I'll still be here after you come from that big game of yours, winning it. I'll be here when you return from prom and I'll be here when you return home from the best college with your diploma in your hand." she says, making a single tears slip out of my eye. I quickly bring my hand up to my eyes, rubbing them to dry them out, not wanting her to see.

My mom's cleaver though, she already knows I'm crying, "I love you mom" I softly tell her, hugging her tightly, "I love you very much too, Dylan" she puts her hand on my back, rubbing it in circular motions as I let out some more tears roll down to my cheeks and on her chest. Closing my eyes together, I deeply sigh and clutch onto her like it's my last time in her embrace.

Seconds later, I walk to my bedroom, wanting to take a nap to relax from everything that's on my mind right now.
