"Have you put chilli powder in my plaster cast?" Ash asked, shooting me a look as he hobbled on his crutches. I let out a chuckle and held the door open for him.

"I'm a genius, not evil. No, I haven't," I told him. He just shook his head at me statement, his hair falling over his eyes. Luckily, because there was little damage to his brain, they didn't have to operate and just left him on strong painkillers to wait out the concussion.

"Has he been let out?" Ash asked, his voice doubtful as we reached his dad's room. I could see why he would think so, it was unusual for the lights to be off.

"I don't think so," I said and opened the door, peering inside. Daryl was sitting in the chair, rather than the bed, doing some hamstring stretches.

I held the door open and the moment Ash struggled inside, his father got up and wordlessly wrapped his arms around him. Instead of getting in the way, I went over to Daryl's hospital bed and sat down silently, letting them hug it out.

The sight was heart warming and although Ash would deny it, there were tears rimming in his eyes.

"Hey, Dad," he said with a small grin. Daryl pulled back and sat down in the chair, gesturing towards the bed for Ash. He took his seat at the foot of the bed and started to talk to his dad about the race.

Turns out, he couldn't even remember showing up, or our argument, he could only remember waking up in the hospital and seeing me.

"Why is your cast pink?" Daryl asked, looking at Ash's leg in shock. Ash groaned and jabbed his finger in my direction.

"I was out so couldn't pick the colour. Someone thought it would be funny to pick it for me," he said flatly and I grinned.

"Pink suits you. It brings out your inner girl," I chided.

"I had no inner girl," he hissed and I smirked as he turned back to look at his dad, who was grinning.

While Ash and his dad were talking and catching up, I'd managed to find the remote to the bed. There were several buttons with little icons by the side, showing the different positions that the bed could go into.

Curiously, I clicked the top button, making the bottom of the bed rise suddenly. Ash made a strangled yelp, leaning on his crutches for support. He turned around and gave me a look. He watched, amusement dancing in his eyes as I put the remote back and folded my hands into my lap.

Daryl chuckled and started to ask us about our relationship. I felt myself blush as he told me all the things that Ash had said the first week we were getting to know each other.

"Yeah, I did put chilli powder in his boxers," I agreed quietly and Ash's father let out a hearty laugh.

"You two are so suited," he said, shaking his head.

When I went out to find a doctor to find out when I could take Ash and Daryl home, I bumped into Sid, tears coating her face. I stopped cold and folded my hands over my chest when she reached me.

"Alex, I-"she started, but I help up my hand.

"I really, really don't want to hear it," I snapped. I tried to meander around her, but she stepped in the way and opened her mouth again.

"I was threatened," she blurted, but I shook my head.

"I don't care what happened. You hurt Dev, you helped cause Ash's accident and I had no interest in anything that you have to say." She flinched at my words and followed me as I made my way to reception.

"Ryder's been arrested," she told me. "So has Nate and Jackson," she said. I spun on my heels and narrowed my eyes.

"Good. I hope you're next," I told her with an icy tone. I managed to find a doctor, who shot a worried look at Sid while she told me that Daryl could be let out whenever, but Ash would need another day of rest.

Because all of the doctors were shooting Sid strange looks, I dragged her outside and folded my arms again.

"Say what you want to say and leave, I need to get back to Ash."

"So, he's ok?" she asked, looking sadly at her shoes.

"Why? Want to help to kill him a second time?" I accused.

"No! Dev wouldn't tell me and nobody else knew," she explained. Although the hurt shooting through her face made me wince, I tried to hold my ground. I was too angry to listen to her reasoning.

"I didn't think he would get hurt," she admitted and I groaned, giving her an exasperated expression.

"Sid, some guy asks you to sleep with and drug Ryder so that he doesn't get in the way while they sabotage Ash's bike. Yeah, of course you didn't think he would get hurt," I replied. She held her hands up defensively and shot me a look.

"Don't talk down to me," she snapped. "You're no better, you let him race," she continued to accuse.

"I let him race because his dad was in a coma and it was the only thing he felt he could do to please him. I'm not God, I couldn't stop him even if I wanted to," I said evenly, losing my hold on my temper. Her face softened when she heard about Daryl.

"His dad was in a coma?" she asked softly. Narrowing my eyes into slits, I nodded.

"Don't act like you didn't know."

"I didn't! Nate told me that Daryl had sabotaged his dad's bike and then won after going to live abroad with some woman half his age!" she exclaimed. I didn't know whether or not to believe her, but I shook my head wearily. I hadn't gotten much sleep the night before without Ash there and not knowing how he was had been twisting my gut.

"Look, I don't want to stand out here and argue with you. I just want you to leave Ash and I alone. If you hadn't slept with and drugged Ryder, the plan wouldn't have gone ahead. And you hurt Dev, cheating on him with Ry, seriously?" When she had no answer, I turned and went back inside the hospital.

Luckily, she didn't follow me. Although, I felt a pang of guilt when I looked over my shoulder to find her watching me with nothing but sadness enveloping her face.

When I reached Daryl's room, Ash was still sitting on the bed, but Daryl was outside, giving his wife a hug. She didn't even bother to hide the fact that she'd been crying. I'd called her the night before to tell her what had happened, but she'd been up the country in a conference and hadn't been able to get back until that evening, way after visiting hours had ended.

As quietly as I could, I bypassed her and slipped into the room to see Ash. He was where I left him, a small smile on his lips. He patted his lap but I gave him an incredulous look.

"Are you kidding?" I asked, grabbing the chair and moving it directly in front of him. I sat down and raised an eyebrow.

"No," he said slowly, as if I was stupid.

"You've got a broken leg and a broken rib, I am not sitting on your lap, dumbass," I told him and he groaned.

"You're ruining my fun," he pouted. I smirked and gently pressed a kiss to his pout. To prove my point, I put my hand on his thigh with a little bit of pressure, causing him to wince.

"Jesus, woman," he cursed.

"That's why I won't sit on your lap," I deadpanned. I filled him in about Sid and he turned his nose up.

"I knew she was manipulative when she told Ryder that she cheated with me." I nodded at his words and glanced at the door when it was pushed open.

"I'm taking your father home," Ash's mother told us and Ash saluted.

"Good. Tell him I'll see him tomorrow," he said. His mother nodded and offered him a warm smile.

"As I said, feel better soon," she said. Ash nodded and she excused herself. The communication between them was a bit stiff, but I couldn't blame them. Ash explained that his dad's crash had caused a rift between them, one that hopefully Daryl being back in action would fix.

Ash asked how Dev was, I told him that he didn't seem too bothered about the whole Sid thing, but I could tell by his tone that he was hurting. Other than that, he'd set straight to work on the police case and was sorting out the evidence of notes and asking the hospital for the CCTV footage.

My boyfriend rested his hands on my knees and looked me in the eye, making my stomach flip and my heart race. I hated and loved that he still had that effect on me.

"You're going to need to redesign my tank and a plaster cast," he told me, gesturing down to his cast.

"I'll do both free of charge as long as you promise me you won't race again," I said, internally yelling at myself as the words came out. He chewed on the inside of his lip as if to ponder and then shrugged.

"Free of charge, I got you an art gallery!" he exclaimed and I chuckled.

"Say that one more time and I will put chilli powder in your cast," I warned. He grinned and gently grasped my hands, running his rough thumb over the top of my hand. The words he said next were enough to make me sigh a breath of relief and my heart skip a beat.

"Rule 31, no more racing."
