Chapter 45
Divorce
Chapter 45
âHello, Ms. Lewis. Iâm a staff member of the resort. We have a barbecue and camping event tonight. Would you be interested in joining?â
Angela thought for a moment, and since she had no plans for the evening, she decided to sign up.
When she arrived at the campsite at the scheduled time in the evening, she found quite a few people there.
Those
present were mostly individuals associated with the Hastings Group.
Angela was surprised to find that Kenneth and his group of friends, Patrickâs
film
crew, and Beatrice and her friends were all there.
Initially, Angela sat by a small barbecue grill meant for one or two people and was just about to start grilling when Beatrice spotted her.
Angle, come join us, sit with us!â Beatrice called out.
Angela was planning to decline, but Beatrice walked over to her, saying, âItâs boring to barbecue alone. Join us, and we can keep you company and
Under Beatriceâs insistent invitation, Angela reluctantly joined them.
Sitting among a group of elderly ladies, Angela immediately stood out.
Beatriceâs companions were older members of other prominent families in Lithoria, and upon seeing Angela, they all started asking Beatrice who Angela was
Just as Ruby was about to speak, Beatrice interjected, âThis is my goddaughter, Angela. If any of you have a suitable young man in your family, do introduce him to my granddaughter!â
Hearing this, Angela couldnât help feeling a bit helpless. âGrandmaâ¦â
She thought that apart from the fact that she and Kenneth hadnât divorced yet she also didnât want to focus on relationships now. Angelaâs priority was to get Empyria Group in order.
Beatrice smiled at Angela, âDonât worry, Angie. When you get married, I definitely prepare a generous gift for your
Upon hearing this, the people around them immediately started discussing potential young men in their families that they could introduce to Angela.
Kenneth, who was sitting nearby, overheard Beatriceâs words, and his face turned unsightly grim.
He thought angrily. âAngela and I havenât divorced yet, and theyâre already rushing to introduce her to someone else. Are they trying to make a fool

Owen, who was enjoying the drama, chuckled, âKenneth, can you still stomach the barbecue?â
Kenneth gave Owen a cold look and responded expressionlessly. âIf youâre that bored, go and skewer the meatâ

The barbecue event was entirely selfâservice, where the staff only provided the meat and necessary ingredients. Guests had to cut the meat and prepare the marinades themselves. If not done well, it could turn into a culinary disaster.
Chwen, who couldnât cook at all, had been tasked with skewering meat.
Remembering the squishy feeling of the meat in his hands, he shivered involuntarily and hurriedly said. âOkay, okay, I was wrong. Why are you taking a joke so seriously now?â
Kenneth didnât respond further. His expression was grim, and he looked unapproachable.
Owen glanced at the unusually silent Jennifer and said with a smile. âJennifer, why so quiet tonight! Youâre not usually
lly like this!
Jennifer forced a smile and replied. âIâm just lost in thought, thatâs all.â
Owen chuckled and didnât press further.
He vaguely understood the reason for Jenniferâs silence. The surveillance footage had clearly captured the reason behind Angelaâs horseâs sudden frenzy.
Everyone thought Kenneth would do something to Jennifer, at least warn her, but he did nothing and let her stay by his side as if nothing had happened.

However, feeling guilty, Jennifer didnât know how to face Kenneth, especially with Debra not around, so she remained silent.
Just then, Kenneth suddenly stood up and swiftly walked toward the other table.
An elderly lady was introducing a potential match to Angela, even urging her to add his contact information. Angela, unable to resist the enthusiasm, was about to agree and add the contact to her phone, planning to explain the situation to the person later.
Suddenly, a hand reached out from above her head and snatched the phone from her.
Surprised, Angela turned around to see it was Kenneth and couldnât help but frown, âGive me back my phone.â
Kenneth looked at her indifferently and put the phone in his pocket. âItâs not safe with you. Iâll keep it for you.â
The other elderly ladies at the table, unaware of Kenneth and Angelaâs marital status, looked bewilderedly at Beatrice and asked, âWhatâs going on here, Beatrice?â
Just as Beatrice was about to explain, Kenneth interjected calmly, âLadies, I apologize for the confusion. Angela is already married, and I am her husband. What my grandma said about introducing someone to her was just to irritate me. Please donât mind it.â
Kennethâs revelation dropped like a bombshell, instantly drawing everyoneâs attention to Beatrice.
âBeatrice, is this true?! How come you never told us?! Youâve kept it so well hidden!â
âI canât believe it. We all thought Kenneth would be the last one among our grandchildren to get married, but he turns out to be the first!â
âBeatrice, thatâs too much! You knew she was your grandsonâs wife, yet you fooled us by saying she was your goddaughter! No, you must treat us to a meal, or this wonât be easily settled.â
Seeing that everyoneâs focus shifted to Beatrice, Kenneth quickly pulled Angela away.
It wasnât until they reached a quieter area in a small grove of trees that Kenneth finally let go of Angelaâs hand.
âAre you out of y
your mind? Why didnât you refuse when Grandma tried to set you up with someone?â he questioned.
Angela looked at him calmly. âWhy should I have refused?â
Kennethâs face turned livid with anger as he replied through clenched teeth, âAngela, donât forget weâre not divorced yet!â
Angela nodded. âI know, So, I was just planning to get to know the person, nothing

âYourâ
Seeing the fury in Kennethâs eyes, Angela reached out and asked, âCan I have my phone back now!â
She thought with a sigh, I just wanted to enjoy the barbecue, but now Kenneth has ruined it again. Nothing good ever happens when heâs aroundâ
Kenneth then held Angelaâs hand, saying, âStay with me for a bit, and Iâll give you your phone back.â
Angela frowned and forcefully withdrew her hand, saying coldly, âKeep the phone then!â
She inwardly grumbled, âI might as well buy y a new one than spend another moment alone with Kenneth.
Seeing that Angela was about to leave, Kenneth suddenly hugged her from behind, whispering. âAngela, I misunderstood you today. Iâm sorry.â
Angelaâs body stiffened, then she pushed Kenneth away and stepped back, glaring at him. âYou donât need to apologize to me. If you truly felt sorry. you wouldnât have let Jennifer stay by your side without consequence after watching the surveillance footage.â
Kennellyâs expression shifted. I promise I wonât let Jennie hurt you againâ
Angela suddenly laughed, but her eyes were devoid of warmth. âSince you chose to protect Jennifer, donât apologize to me. I wonât let her off just because of your apology
