âYou have nothing to worry about, Cassie. We got this.â Lyn smiles at me encouragingly. I feel bad for her. She had to cut off her honeymoon vacation just so she can help me prepare for this day.
For the past weeks, I have been busy scouting for a new location for Kingâs Legend. My days have be locations, talking to authorities and communities, doing site inspections, surveys and integrity testi
It has been a very hard work, and there are times I am about to give up.

âMaybe Attorney Magnus was right in the beginning. Kingâs Legend is a very ambitious project,â I tell Ethan, who is sitting beside me.
Ethan sighs. I know that he agrees with me.
âI think this is the reason why Steele challenged you with it in the first place,â he mutters. âHe kno hat you are bound to
fail.
âMaybe you are right. Because why else would he bring it up if not for me to lose the chairman mention, Iâll lose face as well.â
Kayden Steele must really hate me.
The only good side to working hard on Kingâs Legend is that it has kept me occupied and disti chatter about Megan and Kaydenâs engagement. Everywhere I turn, there are headlines, gossip photos of them, or interviews of Megan. Itâs like a never-ending loop of their fairytale romance outlet.
It seems that everyone has made it into a national hype. Like everyone is interested to find out when they will get married, and when the baby will be born.
Iâm thankful for Kingâs Legend for at least letting me forget that am heartbroken about the who
âAre you alright?â Ethan asks..
I look up to him and find that heâs been watching me.
Immediately, as if itâs automatic, I put a smile on my face. âWhat are you talking about? Of course, Iâm okay.â

Ethan smiles at me ruefully. âCas*ic, I know that Iâm your most persistent suitor,â he says. âBut apart from that, Iâm also your friend. And I know you more than anybody else.â
âWhat are you saying, Ethan?â
He reaches out for my hand and give it a squeeze.
The press just wouldnât shut up about Megan. It makes me wonder if they were paid to actually make it seem like national. interest. He chuckles humorlessly.
âWell, itâs Megan. I wouldnât expect anything less.â

Chapter 47
âIt makes me feel like the news is is for you, though,â Lyn snorts.
âWhat? What have I got to do with it?â
Lyn shrugs. âShe wants to make sure that you get wind of the news, knowing that youâre Kaydenâs ex-wh, wait. You were Kaydenâs SECRET ex-wife. With her, she wants to make sure the entire country knows she will be the ture Mrs. Steele.
âWhatever. They deserve each other anyway.â
When I was married to Kayden, I had been a diligent wife. And I know, even if he doesnât say anything cook for him. He picks up the suits and outfits I prepare for him. No complaints. And for Kayden, tha a compliment. I am not sure how it will be for Megan. That woman could not tell the difference betwembad knife and a paring knife.

âLetâs just focus on Kingâs Legend. I just want to do it and get it over with.â I turn to Ethan. âWhenâs your flight?â
âIn an hour,â he replies. âIâm sorry I couldnât be there with you. But just do what we practiced last night for your presentation, and Iâm sure youâll do great.â
I nod. âThank you.â
Ethanâs driver drops us off in front of Kingâs Legend before they head to the airport.
âYou got this,â Ethan smiles at me as we stand in front of Kingâs Court entrance.
Are you sure you cannot stay?â I ask him. âI can use one more friendly face there.â
âI planned to attend. But my deal in Manhattan is taking a turn for the worse.â
I sigh. âOkay, Iâll call you later.â
He leans forward and kisses my forehead. âSee you later.
I wave him off and then Lyn and I walk towards the lobby.
âNervous?â Lyn asks.
âIâve done about a hundred presentations, but you know this is the biggest one yet. And today, Iâm n
roomful of people that my designs will be world-class and it will be a lucrative investment, I will be convincing a
ful of
rich, hostile board members that my grandfatherâs mistake is not the end of Kingâs Legend, and that terminating this project will do more damage than good.â
âDonât worry. Once you show them the picture of the new location, they will realize that itâs going to be paradise.â
As we walk towards the lobby, I see a person I did not expect to see today.
âWell, well. If this isnât the hero of the day,â Megan says sarcastically.
âI didnât know youâll be here, Megan.â
âIâm a member of the board. Why wouldnât I be here?â
âWell, because we thought only members with substantial shares and voting rights are going to be here,â Lyn says with a phony smile on her face.

Megan glares at her and they she turns to me. âControl your servant maid, will you?â
âSheâs not my servant maid. Lyn is a very competent and integral part of our organization. She has very high credentials. A masterâs degree is Yale, might I say. That is a lot more than youâve accomplished academically.â
âWhatever!â she rolls her eyes.
âWell, I can be here because you know that apart from being a sharehold
in my own right, I am also gut to be the future
wife if one of the major shareholders of this company.â
I give her an innocent look. âReally?â
âHavenât you heard of my engagement with Kayden?â
âOh, I might have heard of that. But I am so busy with a lot of more important things that I hardly pay tion menial things these days.â
âItâs all over the news!â
âIs that what reporters call newsworthy these days?â
âEverybody is talking about it!â She pouts.
âI doubt itâs everybody. But those who are talking about it probably have nothing better to do.â
âAre you saying that my engagement to Kayden is nothing of importance?â She starts raising her v in our direction.
âCalm down, Miss Brown,â I say in a soft voice. âIâm sure itâs good news to you and some people. Why is *** â important to you? Do you really think your engagement to Kayden affects me in any way?â
âDoes it?â a voice says behind me.
I turn around and find Kayden standing behind me.
I have not seen him in almost a month. He looks as dashing, as handsome as ever. And it seems t fully back to health.

He takes a step
step towards me,
the look on his face is fathomless.
âKay⦠I mean⦠Mister Steele.â I nod at him.
He stands close to me⦠too close it makes me swallow.
âDoes it, Cassie?â he whispers in a low voice. I can trace something in his voice. Something I cannot quite place. Is it hope? Or hopelessness?
I look up at him and heâs looking at me deeply. His eyes looks a bit pleading, a bit accusing.
I clear my throat and take a step back.
Again, I put on that fake smile on my face. âNo, Kayden. It doesnât affect me at all!â
Then I turn on my heel and walk away.
