(Y/N)'s P.O.V
I slightly shiver and hug myself, watching Delbert enter his mansion with a mournful expression.
He took off his jacket and replaced it with a fancy red robe, removing his shoes and replacing them with slippers as well.
"I just spoke with the constabulary," he sighs, rubbing his face. "Those blaggard pirates have fled without a trace."
His clock chimes in the back and I clench my fist. I feel something draped on my shoulders and see Jim's jacket. I smile to myself and watch as he takes a blanket and puts it over Sarah's shoulders.
Delbert walks over to Sarah and kneels down next to the chair she was sitting in. Jim stands next to me, wrapping an arm around me.
"I'm afraid the old Benbow Inn... Has burned to the ground."
Sarah's eyes widen, but I know she isn't surprised. She sighs and closes her eyes, her expression pained.
Jim opens and closes his mouth, slightly reaching out before allowing his hand to drop to his side.
Delbert watches this and clears his throat as Jim remains silent, unable to comfort his mother.
"Ahem. Well, certainly a lot of trouble... Over that odd little sphere," Delbert points out, and Jim walks to the small desk where the sphere resides. I follow him and peek over his shoulder, watching as he fiddles with it.
"Those markings baffle me," Delbert continues.
I ignore him and look closely, "Jim? Those markings... They kinda look like--"
"The ones on the chest Billy Bones had..." Jim finishes and I nod in agreement.
"Unlike anything I've ever encountered." Delbert continues, oblivious to our conversation.
Jim presses in the same pattern Billy had used on the chest, and we both lightly gasp as the sphere makes a odd sound.
"Even with my vast experience... And superior intellect..." Delbert rambles.
"Keep going," I encourage and he grins, biting his lip as he turns half of the sphere, before turning the top half.
I gasp when it whirls and a bright green light flashes.
"It would take me years to unlock its-- Hey!" Delbert yelps, noticing the lights dimmed and the bright green beam coming from the sphere Jim was holding.
Jim looks completely starstruck while I gasp in awe, watching as star-like lights swirl for a moment before forming many planets and stars.
"Why, it's a map!" Delbert exclaims.
"Isn't this us? The planet Montressor?" I ask, walking over to our small glowing planet.
Jim walks over as Delbert inspects in closely, removing and cleaning his glasses.
"Indeed!" He smiles, pressing it with his finger.
I gasp and stagger a little, dizzy from the lights moving.
Jim steadies me and I look around the room, Jim doing the same.
Constellations and galaxies swirl past us, and Delbert seems to be in paradise.
"That's the Magellanic Cloud!" He points out next to my head. He gasps and dodges another hologram, even if he won't run into it. "Whoo! The Coral Galaxy!" He points to the swirls. The galaxy goes through Jim, disappearing before reappearing behind him. "That's the Cygnus Cross..."
"And that's the Kerian Abyss!" I point out and Delbert nods in excitement.
"What's this? What's this?" Delbert stammers, making me look at him. "Why... It's... It's--!"
I gasp in realization.
"Treasure Planet!"
"Treasure Planet."
Jim and I say in unison.
"No!" Delbert exclaims in disbelief, his glasses reflecting the green hologram of Treasure Planet.
Jim smiles widely, "that's Treasure Planet!" His eyes shine in excitement, a small chuckle in his voice.
"Flint's Trove!" I squeal, grabbing Jim's arm and shaking him. He laughs as he shakes, grabbing my arm to calm me.
"The loot of a thousand worlds?" Delbert questions, still in disbelief. "You know what this means?!"
"It means," Jim steps forward, tossing the map in the air and catching it. "All that treasure is just a boat ride away."
"Whoever brings that back would hold an eternal place atop the pantheon of explorers!" Delbert exclaims.
Jim and I look at each other before his gaze shifts to his mother, and I already know what he's thinking.
"He'd be able to experience--" Delbert's grand speech was cut short by Jim closing the map, making the lights flick on again. "What just happened?" He mumbles.
"Mom, this is it! This is the answer to all our problems!" Jim shoves the map away, approaching Sarah with a wide grin.
Sarah rubs her forehead, "Jim, there is absolutely no way--"
Jim's smile fades as he interupts, "don't you remember? All those stories?"
"That's all they were-- stories!" Sarah waves her hands.
"With that treasure... We could rebuild the Benbow a hundred times over!" Jim tries to convince, pacing.
"Come on, Mrs. Hawkins! We can totally do this!" I try to encourage, joining Jim at his side. He grins down at me and mouths; 'thank you'.
Sarah stammers, "not you too! This is-- it's just-- oh, my. Delbert, will you please explain how ridiculous this is to them?"
"It's totally preposterous!" Delbert exclaims, pushing his glasses up. I raise a brow as he continues. "Two teenagers traversing the galaxy alone!" He snorts, adjusting his robe.
Jim rolls his eyes and grumbles, while I shake my head and look at the floor.
"Now at last, we hear some sense!" Sarah agrees, crossing her arms.
"... That's why I'm going with you!"
"Delbert!" Sarah scolds and Jim and I look up at each other in surprise, grinning widely.
We watch Delbert run around in amusement as he rambles.
"I'll use my savings to finance the expedition." He shovels some tools in his bag, "I'll commission a ship, hire a captain and crew." He stuffs a sweater in his bag before racing up a pile of books, grabbing a toothbrush from a jar at the very top.
"You're not serious." Sarah watches with a unamused expression.
He drops the toothbrush in his bag and slides down the books, "all my life I've been waiting for an opportunity like this..." He slams his bag down. "And here it is! Screaming;" He pauses and starts dancing, poorly might I add, "'Go, Delbert! Go, Delbert'!"
"Okay! Okay!" Sarah interrupts, waving her arms. "You're all grounded!" Delbert stops and looks down sheepishly.
Sarah groans and rubs her neck.
"Mom, look..." Jim sighs. "I know I keep messing everything up... And I know... That I've let you and (Y/N) down." Sarah and I look at each other before looking at Jim. "But this is my chance to fix everything! I'm gonna set things right."
I smile softly and rub Jim's arm in comfort, making him look at me with a small grin before I hug him. He hugs me back and I hear Delbert clear his throat.
"Sarah? If I may?"
Sarah and Delbert walk away while Jim and I continue hugging.
...
Delbert's P.O.V
I wrap an arm around Sarah, whispering.
"You said yourself, you've tried everything. There are much worse remedies than a few character-building months in space," I hint, thinking of Juvenile hall.
Sarah sighs, "are you saying this because it's the right thing... Or because," she points at me. "You really want to go."
I smile sheepishly and clasp my hands together, much like a begging gesture, "I really, really, really want to go." She smiles and shakes her head, looking away. I lift Sarah's chin, making her look at me, "and it's the right thing."
Sarah and I turn and watch as Jim smiles down at the (H/C) haired girl, hugging her tightly before releasing her.
They glance over at us and Sarah sighs, approaching them.
"Jim... I don't want to lose you," Sarah whimpers, gently stroking Jim's face.
"Mom... You won't. I'll make you proud." Jim smiles, taking her hand in his.
"Jim and I can do it!" (Y/N) grins, and Sarah lightly chuckles, turning to her.
"Same for you, (Y/N). You're like my daughter... I can't lose you either."
"Don't worry, ma." Jim smirks, wrapping an arm around (Y/N). "I'll protect her."
"I can protect myself," (Y/N) mumbles with a pout, making Jim laugh.
"You know you love me!" He grins, and I can tell he wanted his own words to be true.
"Shush, you!" She whacks him playfully and he grabs her hand gently, smiling at her.
I clear my throat, interrupting their moment.
"Well, then. Here we are," they all look at me. "We shall begin preparations at once." I walk to the window, looking up at the Crescent 'Moon'. "Jim, my boy. (Y/N), my girl. Soon, we'll be off to the spaceport." I smile, gesturing to said spaceport with my hand, making them grin in excitement.
Kids. I think to myself in amusement.
