...
(Y/N)'s P.O.V
I grin as I watch Maya, Erica, and Lucia peacefully color while Jasper plays with a small plastic spaceship. Jim and I had agreed to watch the litter, allowing Delbert and Amelia to go on a date tonight.
My smiles fades as an irritation overtakes my face, noticing the time on the clock. Jim was supposed to meet me here three hours ago, and had yet to show.
I grumble in annoyance, aggressively coloring the picture of the pirate ship.
"Auntie, you went outside the line!" Maya dramatically gasps, making my irritation fade to amusement.
I look down and see I indeed did go outside the line. In my anger I had managed to scribble anywhere but the ship, my once nice coloring ruined.
"Aww! Aunt (Y/N)! It looked so nice," Lucia pouts, blowing a piece of blond hair from her face.
"What do you mean?" I dramatically exclaim, playfully gasping. "It still looks nice!"
"It's all ugly now," Erica scrunches up her nose as her ears droop.
"I still think it looks lovely," came Jasper's quiet voice, the boy sheepishly looking down.
"Aww! You little sweetheart," I coo, making the boy's cheeks turn red. I turn to the three girls, "See? Jasper still think it looks good."
"Jasper'll say anything you make looks good, Auntie," Maya replies, switching her brown crayon to blue.
"Oh? And why's that?" I question with a smirk, already knowing why as I feel amusement in me.
"It's 'cos he has a big crush on you," Erica nonchalantly replies, making Jasper exclaim in embarrassment.
"Erica!" Maya yells, making everyone pause, thinking she was gonna scold her for telling on Jasper. "Grammar! It's because," I can't help but snort as she corrects Erica.
Maya was definitely mentally older, and acted more like Amelia than the other girls. I could tell she wants to follow in her mum's footsteps and be Captain of the Legacy. Erica was more into drawing, her artistic skills amazing for a girl her age. So I see her becoming a famous artist. Lucia was more musical, her singing voice way better than her sibling's. But she also had a knack for science, much to my surprise.
Jasper was fascinated with other worlds and galaxies, and wanted to be an adventurer, much to Delbert's concern.
"What's this I hear about someone likin' my girl?" A familiar voice calls from the doorway of the entrance of the mansion, making all three girls and Jasper run over to him in delight.
I hold back, however, irritated at my dashing boyfriend of 10 years. He was late. Again. Jim looks up at me with his gorgeous blue eyes and smiles softly.
"Hey, you." His voice rumbled, much deeper than his old 15 year old self's voice.
I cross my arms and narrow my eyes at him. Lately, Jim has been acting... Weird.
He has been sneaking off whenever he can, leaving me to deal with work at the Inn or to deal with Amelia and Delbert's kids by myself. And he has almost stood me up on the last three dates, showing up late each time because he had important 'meetings.'
Jim had gotten even more attractive, if possible, as the years passed by. He got even taller (about 6'2) and developed more muscles from training. He also grew a small ponytail, not long enough for me to braid yet, though, and he grew stubble and goatee.
I continue to stare at him with irritation, arching my brow at him.
"(Y/N)? Darling?" Jim greets a bit bashfully, making me turn away from him. "I know I'm a little late--"
"A little?!" I whisper, angrily. "No, no. A little is thirty minutes late. Maybe an hour. Not three."
Jim winces at this, rubbing the back of his neck. "I know, I know! I really am sorry--"
"Auntie? Uncle Jim? Are you two alright?" Maya's voice calls, and I realize they were all looking at us from my voice raising.
"Uh... Yes," I reply, shooting a glare at Jim before smiling sweetly at her. "Nothing's wrong, young one.
"Momma says lying is bad." Erica states bluntly, making me tense as I laugh awkwardly.
"And she is right! So let's just say... we're... just disagreeing about something! It's all right though," I reassuringly speak to her, making her frown a bit.
"Why?" Jasper then questions, frowning as he tilts his head.
"Uh... Sometimes, things, uh... Happen," Jim nervously stammers, clearing his throat.
"I would like to know what things those are," I grumble to myself, walking over and plopping onto the sofa.
Jim follows me and sits next to me, his eyes watching me. He slowly reaches over and sets a hand on my knee, making me let out a sigh as I look to him.
"Darling, you know I love you, right?" Jim asks in a small voice, making me want to hug and kiss his face as his thumb rubs my knee.
I let out a soft sigh, my brows furrowing as I frown. "I... do, but... what is going on with you lately, James?"
Jim winces a bit with guilt, making my brow arch a bit. He opens his mouth to say something when the door to the mansion opens, revealing Amelia and Delbert as they step inside with content smiles.
Amelia was wearing a beautiful royal blue dress with her now long fiery hair straightened and hanging by her waist.
Delbert was wearing his usual red coat, him refusing to quit wearing it as the years passed. Only he had on a nice white shirt and royal blue tie to match Amelia's dress.
Amelia smiles as she looks at her children, which were all being perfect angels.
... Until they saw their parents.
"Mama, Auntie and Uncle Jim are fighting!!" Maya snitches, running over to Amelia.
I from the couch with wide eyes, Jim rising and following after me as I approach the couple.
"Not fighting! Disagreement! It's nothing!" I say with a nervous laugh, Amelia's eyes shifting to me with concern.
I sigh softly when I feel Jim's arm wrap around my waist, the man standing beside me.
"Disagreement...?" Delbert mumbles in confusion as I manage to squirm free from Jim's iron grip, sighing.
I look to Amelia, my eyes darting to Jim as I frown deeply. Her ears perk a bit, her expression sympathetic as she sets a hand on Delbert's arm.
"That is unfortunate, but I am sure they will be just fine, my loves," she coos softly to her children.
"Ah," Delbert drags out. "Um, yes, I agree."
"But mum! Auntie (Y/N) is upset!" Erica pulls on Amelia's hand.
"Yeah!" Maya and Lucia agree with frowns, nodding with Jasper.
Amelia raises a brow at Jim, her ears flattening slightly as she sternly looks at him. He clears his throat, chuckling a bit sheepishly. They seemed to be silently communicating with their eyes, making me even more confused and a bit annoyed.
"Hey, you know, it's fine. It's-- it's whatever. Um. I have to go now to the inn, your kids were great as usual, and I hope you had fun," I tell Amelia and Delbert with a shaky smile, removing myself from Jim as I quickly grab my satchel and swing it over my shoulder.
"Wait! (Y/N), I'll go with--" Jim starts, but was cut off by me shutting the door behind me as I leave, shaking my head with a heavy sigh.
...
Jim's P.O.V
My heart sank at the sound of her voice wavering a bit, my eyes wide as she grabs her satchel and rushes to the door.
"Wait! (Y/N), I'll go with--" the door slams, making the chandelier above slightly rattle and swing.
"... Woof," Delbert and Jasper sigh at the same time.
"Nicely done, Mr. Hawkins," Amelia pinches the bridge of her nose. "Alright you four, time for you to head on and up to bed."
"But mama, Aunt (Y/N) seemed really upset!" Erica says in concern.
"Yes, love. And your pap and I will handle it," Amelia replies, making three of the four children whine.
"Let's go, guys." Maya urges, and her siblings reluctantly follow her.
Once they pad up the stairs I let out a loud groan, falling onto a chair and burying my face in my hands, rubbing my temple.
"Yup, keep on rubbing your head, Mr. Hawkins," Amelia starts, pouring a glass of wine for herself. "That'll turn back the clock."
"I told you she would notice your odd behavior, Jim!" Delbert scolds, sighing and shrugging off his coat.
"How late were you this time?" Amelia bluntly demands as she shakes her head, her brow arching as she sips at her drink.
"... Three... hours...?" I quietly reply, smiling sheepishly.
Her expression hardens at this, Delbert groaning as he slaps a hand to his forehead.
"Those sellers really have been making you jump through hoops for that ship and ring, haven't they?" Delbert sighs, shaking his head.
"Well, it's over now. I did his last requirement today," I reply confidently, frowning a bit as I sigh with relief.
"Allow me to ask.. how do you think (Y/N) has been feeling lately? You're constantly late to your outings with her, you constantly sneak off for the meetings, which she doesn't know about..." Amelia trails off, making my face fall in realization.
"I... she... probably feels horrible." I quietly mumble, flinching as I sigh. "I love her. I really do," I manage out weakly, shaking my head.
"Then get your sorry hide out there and tell her that, Mr. Hawkins!" Amelia firmly yells, slamming her glass down and nearly shattering it.
I leap up from my seat and nod, grasping the ring box in my pocket as I race out of the mansion.
...
(Y/N)'s P.O.V
I let out a long sigh, plopping down at one of the empty tables as Ben and Sarah aid the remaining few people with their bills, Morph helping Sarah by becoming a pen for her to write with.
The last customer leaves and Ben scoops ups some dirty dishes, jerking his head towards the kitchen not-so-subtly to Morph, leaving Sarah and me in the diner.
Sarah walks over and sits next to me, glancing around and blowing a piece of her hair from her face.
"So!" She exclaims in excitement, making me jump. "Anything, uh... New?"
"Real smooth, Mrs. Hawkins," I grin, my smile not quite reaching my eyes.
"Oh! You know I hate when you call me that," Sarah groans, making me chuckle before sighing. "What's the matter, sweetheart?"
"Your son," I bitterly reply with a sigh, making her eyebrows shoot up.
"What'd he do? I'm sure you two can make it past whatever it is!" Sarah grins as I sigh, tears coming to my eyes. "Sweetie... Tell me. What's wrong?" Sarah softly coos, grabbing my hand and squeezing it reassuringly.
"I-- I don't know." I shakily manage out, shaking my head. "I don't know what I did. He-- I just don't... I... It just seems like he never has time for me anymore. Maybe I'm being too-- too needy?"
"Oh, no..." Sarah breathes out, rubbing her forehead. "Hey, shh, it's all right, sweetheart!"
Sarah gently reassures, scooting her chair closer and rubbing my back as I wipe at my tears while sniffling. "That boy, I swear... ruining his own plan!" she grumbles under her breath.
This gains my attention, my tearful eyes peering up at her.
"P--Plan?" I manage out with confusion, watching the color drain from her face.
She lets out an awkward laugh, still rubbing my back lightly. "Oh! I... uh. What I meant was--"
She was cut off by the door quickly slamming open, revealing a panicked and frantic looking Jim. He pants heavily and tries to fix his disarrayed hair, adjusting his jacket and dusting off his shirt as he quickly looks around the room. He spots me, my eyes wide with surprise and still filled with tears.
Jim looks at me with a pained expression, walking over and cupping my cheek with his hand, gently wiping a tear on my with his thumb.
"J--Jim?" I shakily say with surprise, feeling more tears forming in my eyes as I lean into his touch.
"Oh, darling," Jim sighs, squatting down in front of me and cupping my other cheek with his other hand as he continues to brush my tears away with his thumbs. "I'm sorry. I'm so so sorry."
Sarah quietly rises and slips into the kitchen, not wanting to interrupt the moment.
I blink rapidly, making more tears fall as he presses his forehead against mine, still softly apologizing as my hands come up and lightly grasp his wrists as his hands hold my cheeks.
"I know... I have been being an idiot lately," Jim breathes out, his eyes opening and gazing into mine.
"And a dummy?" I hear Ben call from the kitchen.
"And a fool!" Sarah yells as well.
"Idiot! Dummy! Fool!" I hear Morph as Jim grunts and pulls away, much to my dismay.
"Yes!" He shouts towards the kitchen door with exasperation as he leans back from me, sighing. "Now could you please give us some privacy?"
They remain silent and Jim huffs, continuing after a moment.
"I know I've been all those things lately... I even made you cry. I never ever wanted to do that, ever. I'm a pretty poor fia-- boyfriend." Jim stammers, rubbing his neck and standing as I gaze up at him. "But I can make it up to you."
I sniffle lightly, wiping my remaining tears as I feel myself calming down. "What?"
Jim grins and holds out his hand with a loving smile, making me look at it before back into his gorgeous blue eyes.
"You trust me, right?"
I didn't have to think about it, nodding as I set my hand in his. "Y--Yes."
Jim's face softens as he quietly chuckles, his hand around mine as I rise off the chair. Jim intertwines our fingers, as if I'd disappear if he let go. He brings my hand up and kisses the back of it, the familiar gesture bringing a small smile to my face as he leads me to his solar vehicle.
...
"Jim, I swear if I trip--" I start, a blindfold wrapped around my eyes.
"I got you, darling. Promise," Jim softly reassures in my ear, his arm wrapped around my shoulder as his other hand grasps my hand.
I can't hear anybody around, but, then again, it was really late.
"Step," Jim gently urges and I listen, my foot landing on a piece of plank wood from the sound of the hollow noise it makes.
A dock?
"Jim, honey, I'm warning you... if I fall on my face, I will have to kill you, and I will make it look like an accident." I warn playfully, a bit concerned by the short gaps in between the wooden planks of the dock.
"You're fine, my love, promise," Jim replies with a soft chuckle, his arm around my shoulder tightening a bit. "We're just abooouuut.... Here!"
He stops, his arm around my shoulder making me stop as well. I could feel a breeze around us, but it wasn't unpleasant or cold.
"So... I can take off my blindfold?"
"Wait," Jim moves me to the right a smidge, making me sigh with mock exasperation as he presses a quick kiss to my lips.
"Okay! Now!"
I practically feel his excitement rolling off him in waves as I slowly remove the blindfold, gasping at the sight before me.
A large beautiful ship slowly sways in the breeze, its bright red masts dancing in the wind. The design was almost identical to the R.L.S Legacy, though there were some differences here and there in the wood coloring and the designs along the sides of the ship.
My eyes pause when I notice the name carved elegantly in the side.
A/N: Howdy. (F) means First Initial
"The... (F).J.S Legacy?" I breathe out, turning to Jim.
He seemed more nervous, and was slightly sweaty.
"The, uh... '(Y/N) Jim Silver Legacy'," Jim smiles shyly, looking at the ship. "Do... Do you like it? I've been picking up extra jobs to save up to buy it, and-- and the sellers have been... quite a handful, wanting me to go to distant planets to retrieve stuff for them. That's-- um, that's mostly why I've been... so busy and gone lately."
My eyes widen with realization as I turn to face him, Jim frowning as he sighs while looking down.
"I know that's not an excuse for being a total idiot and neglecting you--"
I throw my arms around Jim and hug him tightly, making him stumble in surprise at the sudden force as he lets out a soft chuckle. His arms wrap tightly around me, a sigh of relief leaving him as he kisses the top of my head.
"It-- I mean, I was a bit... hurt, but... I understand now. This is... incredible, Jim!" I say with an excited laugh, pulling away and gazing up at him. "I'm... sorry for being all huffy."
"No, I'm sorry... I should have told you. I was trying to surprise you, but I just ended up being a huge idiot and I hurt you," Jim shakes his head, smiling sheepishly down at me as his hand gently caresses my cheek.
I smile softly, leaning into his touch as his eyes look over my face. He perks up a bit with a thought, his eyes darting to the ship as he jerks his head towards it.
"Wanna check it out?"
I smile and nod enthusiastically. "I would love to, Jim."
...
He grins and leads me onto the ship, showing me around the main deck and lower decks. He leads me to the kitchen and I smile in joy as I see he recreated the kitchen to replicate the one on the R.L.S Legacy before showing off the other areas.
...
He leads me up to the wheel of the ship and I whistle in appreciation, looking over the wood.
"Is this made from mahogany wood? Isn't that... super rare and expensive?" I question in surprise, leaning a bit closer to inspect it.
"Only the best for our ship," Jim smiles down at me, his eyes shining in adoration as he playfully winks.
"Our? Is that a proposal, Mr. Hawkins?" I joke teasingly with a chuckle, but his body goes rigid and his smile drops, his eyes widening.
"What?! H-How did you know I was going to propose?!" he questions with wide eyes, shaking his head as his mouth drops open.
My heart stops for a second as Jim continues rambling, angrily ruffling his hair as he begins to pace.
"Agh! My mom told you, didn't she? No-- she might almost on accident, but she wouldn't. Was it Ben-- Ben can't keep his stupid metal mouth shut. Or did Morph mimic me and tell you--"
"Jim! I was joking!" I quickly interrupt his rambling with wide eyes, blushing and completely flustered.
His mouth drops and his eyes widen, his face going pale as he slowly turns to me.
"... Joking...?"
It was quiet for a moment before he groans, squatting down and burying his face in his hands.
"Of course you were joking. Stupid, stupid!" He curses to himself, shaking his head as he sighs heavily.
I stare down at him with a blush, not knowing what to say. We were caught in a long silence and he slowly peeks up at me, his face a bright shade of red.
I smile softly at him and hold my hand to him, making him relax slightly and grab my hand.
I help him up and his eyes shift around nervously. His hair was in complete disarray, making me giggle and lightly pull his collar down so he was my height. I fixed his hair and he sucks in a breath before exhaling.
"Well... Even though you already know what I'm gonna do, I want to do this right."
My heart hammers in my chest as Jim shakily kneels down, clearly unnerved.
He brings his hand to his pocket and holds a (F/C) box in his hands.
"(Y/N)... I love you. I love your gentleness and kindness, your passion and fire for the things you care about. I love your gorgeous (H/C) hair and your breathtaking (E/C) eyes that seem to always suck me in, threatening to drown me. You're my sun, my moon, my galaxy... My universe. But most importantly... You're my soulmate," I could feel tears in my eyes at his speech as he continues.
"You've always been there for me... And I hope you always know that I'm still here for you too." I smile as he quotes what I said on Treasure Planet to him when he was sad about Silver.
"We met under bad circumstances when we were 13. And on that day I vowed to protect you from anything and anyone who tried to hurt you," he opens the box to reveal a beautiful engagement ring.
The metal was a gorgeous white metal that had small designs on the sides, the gem black. However, when the light caught it, it shimmered brightly, almost as if holding a galaxy inside.
"And I would like to make that vow again. Only this time... I want it to be made public and official."
Jim smiles softly and looks up at me, blushes dancing on our faces.
"(Y/N) (L/N)... Will you be my First Mate?" He jokes with a chuckle, a crooked smile on his face. "Will you marry me?"
I smile as tears fall down my face, my arms quickly wrapping around him. He was caught off guard and blinks rapidly as I pull away, looking at him with a beaming smile.
"Of course I will, James Pleiades Hawkins!" I exclaim happily, making his face light up as he smiles widely, tears in his own eyes.
He slips the ring onto my finger and I throw myself at him, making him fall back with a soft grunt and a soft laugh as he hugs me tightly. Jim pulls me away and pampers kisses all over my face quickly before placing one more kiss on my lips, all of his emotions coming off of them and straight to my heart.
He pulls away and we look up at the starry sky as I remain in his arms, the galaxies above bright and shining down on us.
