It's February 14!
Giggles and hearts and kisses on cheeks and lips and other parts that make me feel queasy
Out and about everyone shuffles
Who kissed who
and where are you going
and what are your plans
and do you think he likes me because he's looking at you all funny
And there I am
Succulent in hand
"Yo he think's your cute"
"No thank you", trying not to be rude
You know he's lying, because he's the classic older jock
Wants a laugh, hearty chuckle, but you're not a naive freshmen, or an eighth grader at homecoming
So you walk and turn away and refuse to return
And think about what might've been if only he were to ever return
You think of him holding you
Giving the strength to move on
Instead of getting weaker
And latching on to the last bon-bon
You think of him with her
Though he's probably out working
Yet you don't even know what's up with him these days
Whether or not he's been going
If he's happy
If he's crushing
If he ever misses you
If he ever thought of you the way you do about him
But then you're in the locker room
Your friend says goodbye
You thank her for the present and yet you feel empty inside
It's not about the presents, or love, or companionship
It's about us singles tearing ourselves down
and yet loving every single second of it
Because we are our own poison
And only we can share the antidote
The recipe is in our souls
And yet we can't ever part with it
So the binge begins and candy wrappers lay under the bed
And I think about all the discounts and how much money I saved
And I think back to that one buzzed jock, and say he would never shoot at this shot
And I chuckle and I lie down and I think back to him
I would never love myself if I could see me like this
Happy Valentines Day everyone
I hope one day you cure yourself by finding that antidote
Cardboard hearts and triglycerides with sugar
Will never do you much
Unless you want diabetes or GURD with that slobbery kiss at your 5 star reserve
