Chapter 71
A thousand needles pric ked her skin, injecting ice in her veins. Her eyes widened and then narrowed when shock gave way to rage. âYou!â she growled through her pain. âYou have the galls to keep me captive? Believe me, if Theo uncovers the truth about what youâve done to me, heâll be so angry that heâll annihilate your entire pack.â
Kade chuckled as he sat down on a raised platform opposite to her. His gaze raked her b*dy, and he licked his l*ps salaciously. âLook at you, sweetheart,â he tsked. âEven though you are bound by chains, your spirit remains unyielding and full of vigor. I knew I made the right decision.â
âRight decision?â Carmine snapped. âYouâve made the worst decision of your life. I am already mated and married.â
He shrugged. âSo what? I donât care, Carmine. Do you know what all Iâve done to get you here?â He tilted his head to the side as he stared at her. âI knew Ruby was being difficult when she picked a fight with me and stormed out of the main hall. My mother was not sure of her intentions and so she asked my wolves to follow her. They quietly followed her to the thicket, where she had retreated to find solace and cry. The bit ch decided to tell you about me. That came as a blessing in disguise. Armed with a foolish note, she managed to entrap you into listening, and to my astonishment, it actually worked. You cam
Carmine glared at him. âYou believe you deserve anything you desire because of your selfish and egocentric nature. You have no qualms about the levels you can stoop. Are you even hearing yourself? You killed your chosen mate in the washroom. Arenât you. feeling even an iota of remorse?â
He shrugged again. âNope, no remorse. Why should I? She wasnât my mate, you were. I felt the pull towards you and not her.â That was a lie. His heart wrenched when she fell limp on the floor. He wanted to lift her and take her away, but he tamped that emotion because his eyes were on a greater prize.
âYou lost that chance!â Carmine shouted. âYou lost it the day you got it. I donât belong to you. I belong to Theo!â
His eyes
yes flashed amber as he got up and was in front of her in a second. He grabbed her hair and yanked her head back. âNo, you donât belong to Theo now. You are mine!â He looked at her mark and rubbed it with his fingers harshly. âI will erase it by branding my mark on you!â
She cried when he rubbed her mark because her skin agonizingly burned.
âI knew you were a special wolf,â he said, controlling his anger and slowly grazing her jaws with his nose. âThe attempt to confine you with silver chains was futile. A mixture

of bones and silver is what my Shaman advised to keep a wolf as strong as you under control. And guess what I did?â He brushed her nape with his nose, inhaling her scent. âI dug out the b*dy of one of my Alpha ancestors.â He chuckled. âAnd I gave it to my Shaman. He crafted the most impressive shackles that could be conjured.â
She recoiled at his grimy touch, but he maintained his grip on her head by tightly clutching her hair. âYou are a disgusting critter!â she breathed.
He laughed as he came face to face with her. âI may be a disgusting critter, but now I have you. The world can go to hell. I am going to make you mine and will have my army of Alpha wolves who will rule this world with me!â
âDonât be insane,â Carmine said, her voice cracking up. âIâm not special. You are mistaken.â Suddenly, she remembered what Ember had told her. âSimple silver chains. wouldnât be able to hold her. She stifled a gasp. No, that wasnât true.
His brows furrowed with amusement. âDonât you know how special you are?â He backed away from her a little and read her face as if wondering if she was speaking lies. âAnyway, since I know you will run away if we unshackle you, weâve decided that you will be confined from now on until youâre ready. The Shaman will come here soon and he will carry out the ritual to remove that mark of yours. After that we will marry my sweet Carmine. And after that-â He pinched her chin and lifted her face up. âI will stay here until I f uck the sense out of you. So stop dreaming of the scent of freedom in the air again. This is going to be your life from now on.â He pointed at a bucket in the corner. âIf youâll behave, I will give you that bucket to pee.â
Tears welled in her eyes. âAlpha Kade, donât do this. It goes against natureâs laws. The goddess created mates for a reason.â
âWell, I donât care,â Kade smirked.
âAlpha Theo is going to find me and then-
He barked a laugh. âTheo doesnât know where you are. This place is well-hidden. He can never reach you here.â
âHe will!â
Kade cupped her jaws tightly. âStop hallucinating, sweetheart. He doesnât even know that Iâve taken you. I made sure that he didnât come to know. After my wolves took you, I attended the ball until it was over. Yes, there was a little uproar after your sudden disappearance, but I returned when others left. My mother took care of Ruby.â He shook his head. âPoor Ruby. She had to be sacrificed for nothing. She could have accepted you and remained by my side. I would have f ucked her too. I mean, not as much as I would have f ucked you, but stillâ¦â

form, it would be you. If only I hadnât followed Rubyâs advice, maybe she would still be alive.â
âMaybe,â he scoffed and went to the side from where he got a pitcher of water. âDrink,â he said, putting it against her l*ps. âOnce the wedding is through, you will be transferred to a secluded lodge tucked away in a hidden location. And there we will start a new life.â
She eagerly drank the water to gain energy.
Kade smirked and left.
As soon as he closed the door, Carmine closed her eyes and concentrated on her bond. It felt alive and pulsed with energy. Hope, fear, pain, and shock intertwined in the thread that bound her to Theo. With all her strength, she grasped her bond tightly and tugged it.
