Chapter 23

Scarlet was ecstatic. The way Kade stared at Carmine all the time they were at the ball, she was sure that he was very interested in her. It was almost as if she was his mate. He stared at her with the same intensity as Theo. It made her extremely jealous. What was it that Carinine had, and she didn’t?

Had Kade shown such interest in her, then maybe she would have made an effort to be in Ruby’s place or maybe not. Alpha Kade was a powerful Alpha, and she was sure that living as his mistress would have been fun. But then the problem was that Alpha Kade wasn’t as powerful as Alpha Theo. So her plan was perfect. She informed Alpha Kade. about Carmine’s whereabouts while ensuring that there was no one in the manor other than the guards who were also not so vigilant.

After she had sent Alpha Kade to Carmine, she walked to the meeting room along with Alpha Theo, Beta Winn and other Alphas. She couldn’t help feeling proud. This was where she always belonged-amongst the royals and higher-ups. Times were changing fast.

Beta Winn stopped her as they entered the meeting room. “What are you going to do in the meeting?” he said in a stern voice.

She jerked her head back in surprise. “What do you mean? I will attend it with.

you all.” After all, she was the one who had started the entire rogue problem in the Silver Moon pack. It was vital for her to listen to their plans so that she could sabotage them.

“No,” Winn stopped her. “You aren’t required. It is the meeting between Alphas. You may go back to the ballroom and entertain the guests. Please ensure that all of them. have eaten well.”

She gritted her teeth, but she knew well how to suppress her irritation and anger. Once she became the Luna, she was going to remove Winn from his position. “Very well,” she replied, sucking in a sharp breath. “I will leave.” She watched all of them enter the meeting. When Winn closed the door, she started to leave, clicking her heels on the floor loudly for everyone to hear that she was going. 1

it was just a show. As soon as she rounded the corner, she removed her heels and padded back to the meeting room. The doors of the room were thick and soundproof. Still, she pressed her ear against the door to listen to what they were talking about.

The conversation sounded mu ffled, and she couldn’t make out anything. Like a mosquito buzzing in the air, her irritation wore down her patience, and she felt like banging on the door. With a frustrated sigh, she went back to the ballroom and waited over there for Theo to come.

“Scarlet?” Ruby’s voice from behind made her jump. “Did you see my husband?”

She shook her head slightly. “Nope! Why?”

“I’ve been looking for him for an hour, but he has disappeared!”

“Why don’t you mind-link him and find out?” Scarlet replied, eager to know what he was doing with Carmine.

Ruby clenched her jaw. “He has blocked me.”

“I wonder why?” Scarlet chuckled, emphasizing the double meaning of her chuckle. “But then, this is very common in balls like these.” She patted Ruby’s upper arm. “Don’t worry. He will come back soon. In the meantime,” she winked at her. “Why don’t you have fun too?”

Ruby’s l*ps parted in a gasp. “You are very naughty, Scarlet.”

Scarlet laughed. “Have fun!” she winked and left her gaping.

Ruby bit her bottom l*p and thought about Scarlet’s idea. She picked up another wine glass and sauntered to a group of unmated and young Alphas. They were laughing and talking to each other and the hot topic was… Carmine.

“I hope she is unmated,” said one of them.

“If she is, then I will pursue her,” another said.

“You are in the queue buddy. Since I am the oldest amongst

you, I will court her.”

“F uck off! She is too young to be courted by someone who is over thirty!”

“Man, she’s so gorgeous,” said the fifth one dreamily. “Did you see her hair? They were golden tipped!”

“No wonder Alpha Theo was attracted to her. I hope he leaves her!”

Ruby’s mood turned sour. Everywhere she went, the wolves were only talking about Carmine. Angry, she gulped her wine and stomped out of the ballroom to where the dinner was served.

It had been two hours since Scarlet had come back from the meeting room. She was mingling with the guests and wondering where Alpha Kade was. She was dying to know what he had done. Suddenly, Winn called her to the front gate of the mansion via mind-link. “Is everything okay?”

“Just come!”

Scarlet hurried to the front gate, sure that the Alphas must be leaving, and she was called for courtesy’s sake. However, when she reached there, she saw Alpha Theo was

standing with Beta Winn and other Alphas and they were looking at none other than Carmine, who was holding her pup who was fast asleep in her arms and had stepped out of a car. Carmine narrowed her eyes at her. Scarlet blanched. How did she find a way out of the room? And how come she wasn’t with Alpha Kade? Nothing made sense and now everything was about to get so shi tty that Scarlet felt she would faint.

“Where is your luggage?” Alpha Theo asked, bewildered and worried as hell. He turned to Scarlet. “Why aren’t you with Carmine?”

“I” Scarlet stuttered. “I dropped her to the guest room and-”

“And you closed the door from outside!” Carmine said.

“What?” Theo was bamboozled, but it soon turned into a full-flared rage. “Why did you lock her?”

“I didn’t!” Scarlet glibly replied. “Why will I do that?”

“You said that no one was in the mansion and that no one could get my luggage until morning because they were all busy with the party. Then who could’ve locked me?” Carmine snapped.

“I-I don’t know!” Scarlet croaked as she glanced at Theo, whose hands curled in anger.

“So you went alone and came back alone?” he asked her.

“I had no other choice, Alpha Theo,” Carmine said, looking at Scarlet and sensed a well- hidden hatred in her eyes.

Anger surged through him. “How dare you defy my orders, Scarlet? And how dare you speak lies? Don’t we have people to get her?” he shouted so hard that she cowered, tears flooding her eyes. “Do you have a death wish? Winn, take her to the dungeons!”

Carmine was so angry that she didn’t stop him, but then Scarlet dropped to her knees, bursting into tears, making her gasp.

“Please Alpha Theo, no!” she cried. “I am just an omega, and if you send me to the dungeons, I will die. My wolf is too weak. Please, I’ll do anything!”

Theo was about to say something, but Winn stopped him. Through mind-link he said that she was actually very fragile and may not survive.

“Please Alpha,” Scarlet sobbed. I am going to rectify my mistake. I will serve Carmine. Please forgive me this time. I don’t know what came over me. I am just a very weak. omega!”

They heard twigs snapping and heavy footfalls on the cobbled path. When they turned their heads, they saw Alpha Kade running towards them. He was breathless, sweating

and panting. Scarlet’s gaze locked with his and she further blanched. Carmine took a step loser to Theo.

Theo’s eyes narrowed to a slit..
