Chapter 22

Theo didn’t like it at all, but he knew he had to. “Okay, I will come in a minute. Take Carmine to the guest rooms on the second floor, and then make sure to move all her luggage in here from the cottage. Bring a few omegas with you and make sure that Thor is safely and securely brought here. Is that understood?”

Scarlet’s mouth dropped open in pure shock, but she immediately closed it. “S-sure!”

Theo got up. His voice went an octave low when he turned to his mate. “See you around Carmine.”

She nodded softly, rewarding him with the same pale blush. Before he would end up k*ssing her, he sucked in a sharp breath and left.

When Scarlet saw disappearing behind the corner, she entered the library. “That was fast,” she remarked.

Carmine’s b*dy went stiff in her

presence. “I-”

“Hey!” Scarlet stopped her. She approached her and took Carmine’s hands in hers. Lowering her eyes, she said, “I am

Tears in her eyes left Carmine flabbergasted. “It’s- it’s fine. Please don’t worry,” Carmine said, feeling awkward, but deep inside she just couldn’t believe that Scarlet was actually crying. Scarlet reminded her of a fable story of a crocodile who had tears. Because how was it possible that one minute she insulted her in front of so many people, while the other minute she was sorry for her act? Either way, she had to be extremely careful around Scarlet. It was a matter of a few days only.

Scarlet wiped her tears and said, “Have you forgiven me?”

“Yeah!” Carmine exclaimed.

Scarlet gave

her a soft smile. “Then please come with me to the guest rooms.”

“What about Thor?” Carmine asked.

“Don’t worry, I will personally take care of your son.”

“Thanks!” Carmine said in a voice full of gratitude.

Together, they went to the guest rooms. “This place is not spotless because hardly people come here,” Scarlet said as she opened the guest room for her. Though Theo had asked her to take Carmine to the guest rooms on the second floor, she took her to

the room, which was used more as a storeroom than as a guest room. There was dust on the floor and some furniture was stashed in th

corner. A bed was lying in the center that was covered in a white sheet. When Scarlet switched on the light, Carmine could see dust motes flying around. “I am so sorry, but this is the only one available for you at the moment. I am going to get it cleaned as soon as possible. All the omegas are catering at the party and so they will clean it tomorrow. Can you adjust until that time?”

“Of course!” Carmine replied as she sneezed. “I’ll clean it myself.”

“Great, then I shall get your luggage and Thor,” Scarlet clasped her hands with excitement. When she left and closed the door, she bolted it from outside so lightly that it was soundless. Brushing her hands off, she walked back to the main hall where Theo was giving his speech. She already had plans for him to stay busy for the next few hours. As for getting Thor, she had plans for that, too.

Carmine took a deep breath in as she scanned the entire room. It was d*rty. Knowing that Thor might catch an allergy, she started to clean the place on her own. When the place was done, it had been an hour and Thor hadn’t come as yet. She walked to the door to go out and enquire about him, but realized that the door was bolted on the outside. She banged it hard, but no one opened.

Anxiety gripped her heart. Did Scarlet close her inside, or that was someone else? But when she came here, she didn’t see anyone in the manor because Scarlet told her that the omegas were serving in the ball. She continued to bang on the door, calling for help, but no one heard her.

Theo gave the speech and was about to go when a group of Alphas came over to him. “Alpha Supreme, there’s an emergency. We must have an urgent meeting.”

Theo gritted his teeth. He was impatient as hell and wanted to go back to Carmine. By now, he was certain that Thor had arrived. In his mind, he envisioned his lovely mate cuddling their precious baby in the guest bedroom. He had asked Scarlet to put Carmine on the same floor as he was on for easy access and he just couldn’t wait to be with her. “Can it wait till tomorrow?” he asked. The Alphas and Lunas were leaving the next day after breakfast.

“I’m afraid it can’t. I’ve received a message that some rogues were spotted near my pack again,” Alpha Jonas of the Silver Moon pack said.

Theo frowned. Last time, he had pushed the rogues pretty far away from the Silver Moon pack. It had been only a few days. They came back fast. “What about Alpha Jake of the Neon Moon pack? Has he joined them?” he asked, baffled.

“I don’t know…” Alpha Jonas replied, looking extremely tired. “I have no idea where the f uck are they coming from or who is funding them, but we need to do something about

this situation asap!”

Theo looked at his Beta. “Winn, get the meeting room prepared.” Winn gave him a tight nod and strode out of the main hall. Theo’s gaze went to Alpha Kade, who was looking at him with hatred. Sitting next to him was Ruby, who was in deep conversation with some other Luna. Theo returned the stare to Kade and then averted his gaze.

If he thought he would take Carmine back, he was hugely mistaken.

As soon as Theo left for the meeting, Scarlet hurried to Alpha Kade. She sat next to him and whispered, “I know that if Alpha Theo comes to know about what I am going to do, he will throw me in the dungeons, but-” her eyes flitted to Ruby. “I saw how you looked at Carmine. Do you desire her?”

Kade narrowed his eyes. “What do you want and what are you hinting at?”

Scarlet pursed her l*ps, taking a deep breath in. “I don’t want Alpha Supreme to look like a mo ron and for that, it is important that Carmine be dealt with. She is in the guest room on the second floor. If you like-” She stopped mid-sentence and gave him a knowing glance.

His eyes went wide as he chuckled. “Thanks Scarlet! You are sharp.”

Scarlet gave him a sweet smile. “Please don’t reveal my name, okay?”

“Absolutely not!”

Alpha Kade couldn’t believe his luck. This was the perfect chance to steal Carmine. He was going to take her out of the manor and would hide her in a place where no one would even come to know about her existence. When there would be no Carmine, there would be no initiation ceremony. Theo won’t be able to do a da mn thing.

He rubbed his hands in excitement as he hurried towards the manor. Upon arriving at the guest room as Scarlet had directed, he was astounded by what he witnessed.
