Chapter 39: Chapter 39

Jealousy KillsWords: 11637

Camille

It had been 2 years since I'd seen Josiah.

The few months with him were truly the craziest time of my life. Ever since i'd left him there had been peace. No disturbances, random kidnappings, or break ins had occurred.

I was safe, but I wasn't necessarily happy.

When we had first broke up he had tried to reach out to me a couple times in the beginning, after refusing his protests several times he finally stopped. Time went on and I continued with my normal life. I was now 25 years old living by myself in a tiny little apartment in the city. The girls and I had all split up, life had pulled us into different directions. Mitchie was engaged and lived with her boyfriend Thomas in New York. Rosa got a job in Washington and had to move up there. We still kept in touch as often as possible and met up when we could.

I missed them dearly though, it was like my youth was washing away before my eyes. Not that I'm not still young but my post graduate school says were over and we were really starting to grow up. I worked as a financial manager for an employment agency here in New Jersey.

The job paid decent and I was able to get by. My boss was a nice woman and my coworkers didn't really give me problems either. I hadn't had any contact with Mr. Louis since I confronted him about being my biological father. I had no interest in having him in my life and preferred if he had nothing to do with it.

My dating life had been pretty nonexistent after Josiah. I was sure Josiah would have anyone I dated killed if I even tried. Rosa pushed me to dip my toe into the dating pool by setting me up on a blind date. The guy was attractive and had a great personality. We went on about two dates before I decided it just wasn't working for me. Ultimately we didn't click romantically and I didn't want to try again.

Even now after two years I still think about Josiah, and I do miss what we had. Although I missed him, I was afraid to reach out. After all this time I still wanted him, but I still wasn't okay with that he would be doing while we were together. To be with him and to know that he just finished killing people before getting into bed with me was what put me off from attempting to contact him. So now I was just settling with my love life, not necessarily sad but not really happy either. Whatever happens, happens.

Currently I was getting ready for work, putting on the usual business casual and pinning up my hair. I zipped up my pencil skirt and touched up my makeup before getting my bag together. When everything was all set I strapped on my heels and made my way down stairs to my car. Yes you heard right my car, one I had bought myself with my own money. I got it not too long after working this job. It was a 2010 silver Toyota Camry. Nothing fancy but I loved it so much.

My job was about 20 minutes away from my apartment so I left the house well before work time in case of traffic. But today I left extra early to enjoy some time at my favorite coffee shop by my workplace. They had the greatest pastries I enjoyed wasting time in their before work. Today was Wednesday, meaning that the special pastry of the day were these sweet donut like pastries from the Czech Republic called Vdolky. I had tried them once before and they were delicious! That's why I frequently come on Wednesdays now.

So here I was, savoring every bite of my Vdolky in the middle of this little coffee shop. I watch some videos on my laptop as I let time pass while drinking my coffee. It was a good way to start out my day, it usually put me in a better mood. I look over at the time and realize my shift time is getting close. I pack up my things quickly and head towards the door with coffee in hand.

As I was rushing out someone was attempting to come in, resulting in a mass collision. I felt the hot liquid burn through my blouse and onto my skin. The person I had ran into let out a curse as I let out a stream of apologies. "I'm so sorry!" I turn around and grab some napkins from the table near by and attempt to clean off his suit that got stained as well.

"Camille?"

I look up when I hear the familiar voice.

"Charlie?"

He looked so different in a suit. Well he just looked so different in general! He had a clean haircut and his beard was shaved down. His well tailored suit looked brand name and he had a gold Rolex on his wrist.

"I am so sorry about your suit!"

He lets out a chuckle before giving me a hug, "It's been so long." I smile as I return the hug, "It really has! You look different, what's new with you?"

"Lots of things, I've been put in charge for starters. Josiah stepped down." My eyes widened, "What do you mean stepped down? Is he okay?"

He nods, "He's just fine. He asked me to take over for him."

I was shocked, step down from what exactly? The million dollar companies? The mafia part? Both?

"It was great seeing you Camille, I missed your clumsiness. But I have to get to a meeting and change my shirt before I do. We should catch up soon."

I nod, "Yeah likewise! My numbers still the same."

Crazy that I'd run into Charlie after so long. And the fact that Josiah had stepped down? I had so many questions on what that means for him, and why he did? I guess I could ask Charlie if I get to see him again.

I put my things together and head out to my car to get to work. Thankfully I had an extra shirt in the backseat for instances like these. Sadly they happen a lot for me. After changing in the women's restroom I take the elevator and head up to my work area to begin my day.

By the time my shift came to an end I was exhausted. It was a very busy day and I had many things to do but in the back of my mind I kept thinking about my encounter with Charlie.

I wave goodbye to some of my coworkers before heading out to my car outside. After a long drive home thanks to traffic, I entered my apartment and threw my heels in a corner. I took my hair out of its pinned up state and let the curls free. I hopped into the shower to wash my hair and clean the remaining coffee residue from my body.

After the long hot shower I threw on a robe before letting myself fall on my queen sized bed. My phone begins ringing and I pick it up to see a call from Rosa. I smile as I answer the FaceTime call, "Hey bitch."

She laughs, "Hey Bitch! I'm adding Mitchie to the call okay?" Suddenly a third voice appears, "Hey bitches!"

I let out a laugh, "I miss you guys so much. How was your day?"

Rosa shrugs, "Pretty average. The highlight of my day was when Starbucks accidentally gave me two cake pops instead of one."

"My day was okay, I had my first meeting with the wedding planner but I don't know if I like their ideas for the wedding." Mitchie sighs.

"It's your wedding! What ideas do you have? Share it with the planner." I reply.

" Yeah don't let the planner boss you around." Rosa adds.

"The planner is Thomas's mother."

Rosa and I both grimace. "Are her ideas that bad?" I ask.

"She wants the colors to be hunter green and white. You know how I feel about the color green! And she wants to have a guest list of over 1,000 people. I don't even know 1,000 people!"

Rosa holds back a laugh while I shake my head. "You need to talk to her, did you share with her your ideas already? Maybe you can talk it out."

She shakes her head, "Not gonna lie to you she kind of scares me. I don't want to make her mad. But anyway I don't want to talk about it anymore, how was your day Camille?"

I nod realizing how stressful the conversation was for her. "My day was interesting, guess who I accidentally spilled coffee all over today?"

"Your boss?" Rosa asks with a horrified expression.

"No! Then I wouldn't sound so happy, it was Charlie! Remember Josiah's partner?"

Rosa quirks up an eyebrow, "The hunky one with the dark hair? Where did you see him?"

I chuckle, "That coffee shop I go to that serves Vdolky on Wednesday's."

"Mm I love Vdolky, did you talk to him?" Mitchie asks.

"Yeah he told me Josiah stepped down, then he said he wanted to catch up sometime."

"Have you made plans to catch up?" Rosa asks.

"Do you think you'll see Josiah?" Mitchie asks.

I shake my head, "I don't need to see Josiah. We broke up remember?"

"You know you miss him! That's why you won't date anyone else. I think this is a sign."

Mitchie nods, "I agree, you're once again hiding from your real feelings. Now that he's stepped down doesn't this change things?"

I sigh, "I don't know, and it's not like Charlie is actually going to make plans with me. He's a very busy man."

Suddenly my phone beeped and a notification pulls up at the top. A text message from an unsaved phone number appears.

Unsaved number: Hey Cam, you free this Saturday to catch up? - Charlie

"Speak of the devil." I say as I read the message.

"He texted you? See it's all a sign!" Rosa cheers.

"You are going right?" Mitchie asks.

I nod, "Out of curiosity yes."

The girls and I talk for about another hour before we get off the call. I let my hair out of its towel and put it into two braids before heading to the kitchen to eat something. It was after 9pm and I was ready to get into bed and sleep after I finished these takeout leftovers.

After brushing my teeth I got into bed and pulled out my phone.

C: Sure! Just let me know when and where.

A couple minutes later he responds back.

Unsaved number: How about we meet at the club before it opens? Around 5pm, for old times sake.

C: okay! See u then :)

I set the alarm on my phone and plugged it into the charger. Saturday's gonna be interesting, but hopefully not too interesting. I can't help but wonder if Josiah will be around. I let myself fall asleep thinking of different scenarios for Saturday evening.

-

The weekday went by much faster when you had something to look forward to on the weekend. I was actually pretty excited to see Charlie. It had been so long since I'd really been around anyone. Since my best friends moved away I didn't really get out much and my social life was close to zero. So now that I have been given the opportunity to dress up and go somewhere I'm taking it!

I decided to wear a reddish brown sweater with a dark brown skirt.  (Pictured below)

Since the club wasn't going to be open I didn't see a point in dressing to go clubbing. So my sweater and skirt will do for now. I had on light makeup and slicked my hair into a low ponytail. I threw on my accessories last and admired myself in the mirror. I hadn't looked this cute in a while.

When I arrived at the club I stared at the entrance for a moment, remembering all the events that occurred here.

My constant battles with Josiah, running into Lancing, being with Tyler. They all happened here.

I texted Charlie and took a deep breath before heading toward the entrance. As expected there were workers running around trying to prep for the anticipated rush of club goers for Saturday night. Charlie met me in the front before leading me upstairs. "How've you been?" He asks as we walk through the halls.

"I've been alright, got a new place and stuff so can't complain. What about you Mr.Bossman?"

He chuckles, "Nothing too different from what I was doing before." We arrive at the door of what is now his office. He opens the door for me and I thank him before stepping in.

First think I notice upon entry is the man sitting in the corner. He looks up at me and his eyes widen, "Camille?"
