Camille
"Cammie don't be such a prude." My best friend Rosalyn laughs as she throws me a skin-tight dress. I throw it back at her, "I'm not wearing this."
Mitchie, my other best friend, groans from the corner of the room she's sitting in. "Camille, it's my birthday, can you wear it for me please?"
I sigh, "Don't you have anything longer? If I even move in that thing I'll expose myself." Rosa throws me another dress, "Here, ya happy?" I pick up the dress to look at it. It's black and simple and it even has sleeves! I smile at them, "Thank you very much."
After we're all done getting dressed, we fill into Rosa's car and drive over to meet the rest of the girls at the club. I sulk in my seat not really wanting to go in the first place.
We arrive a few minutes later, we're in front of the club. Mitchie and Rosa are flirting with the bouncer to let us in, I just watch them awkwardly waiting to be let in.
Once we actually are inside the club, we meet up with some other friends at a table and all the girls go dancing and drinking. I decide to stay in the booth where I believe I'm safe from harm. And of course, I spoke too soon because soon after a man approaches the booth and takes a seat near me.
"Why hello there." He smirks. At least he's not drunk.
"Um, can I help you?"
"Yes actually, I was wondering if you'd wanna get out of here?" He asks pointing toward the exits. "To do what?" I ask.
He chuckles, "You know." He wiggles his eyebrows and I frown. "I don't understand."
"Come over to my place duh." My cheeks turn a brights pinkish color as I realize what he's implying. "No thank you I'm good." I slide out through the other side of the booth to get away from the man and quickly rush over to the bar. I kept looking behind me to see if he was following so I didn't see the man in front of me, resulting in me running into him and spilling his drink on himself.
The man was tall, big, and mean-looking. He looked down at his shirt and then glared down at me. I gasped, "Oh my gosh I'm sorry, I wasn't looking where I was going!" I grab napkins from a nearby table and start cleaning his shirt. He grabs my wrist and moves my hands away from his chest, "Just watch where you're going next time." He growls out.
My eyes widen and I nod before apologizing again. I couldn't even say anything sassy back, it was my fault and I felt really bad. "Let me at least pay for your dry cleaning or something."
"No. Just watch out next time." He repeats. I frown at him, "Well how about I give you some money to clean it?" I pull out a twenty from my nurse and hand it to him.
"Are you fucking deaf? I said no, now go away." I frown at his harsh language, "Um do you have any manners? You can't just talk to me like that, especially when I'm trying to help you."
He glares at me again, "Do you even know who you're talking to?"
"Do you know who you're talking to?" I ask back. He lets out a deep chuckle, "Who are you?"
"I'm Camille Ali, you are?"
"Your worst nightmare, now step out of my way." I cross my arms and stay put. "Can't I at least get an apology?" He grabs my arm and moves me out of the way before walking off. I let out a scoff and was about to follow him till someone grabbed my arm. I turn around to see Mitchie and Rosa staring at me wide-eyed.
"Bitch are you crazy?!" Rosa exclaims.
"Do you want to get yourself killed?!" Mitchie exclaims as well.
"What are you guys talking about?"
"Do you not know who you were just talking to?" Rosa asks. "No, he wouldn't tell me."
Mitchie sighs, "Oh Cam, that was Josiah Wells, aka big Jo."
I give her a confused look, "And? Sounds like a lame nickname to me."
Both of their mouths drop open, "You've never heard of him?"
I shake my head, "He's a mob boss."
"What do they do?"
Mitchie smacks her forehead, "He's killed a lot of people Cam, or at least had them killed. They do a lot of bad things, from drug dealing to prostitution."
I get a little lightheaded knowing I made contact with such a person and that I was so rude to him! What if he comes after me and kills me? I told him my name I could be dead as soon as I walk out of this place. "Cam you don't look so good." Rosa says.
"Um, I think I'm going to get myself a drink." I walk away from them and towards the bar, where I was originally heading to before I bumped into that prick.
"Can I have some water please?" I ask the bartender. He chuckles, "Sure thing missy." And hands me a water bottle. I open it up and take a long gulp before pulling out my phone and looking up the man I angered.
Josiah Wells.
aka big Jo
Suspect in 12 murders this year, but was never convicted for any.
That's all I could find on him online, sat quietly in my seat waiting for the girls to take me home. When they finally did we made it home safely and I apologized for ruining Mitchie's birthday. "You didn't ruin anything relax. Now get to bed." I smile at her softly, "Good night guys."
They both call out their good nights and I go to get ready for bed.
-
The next morning I wake up and get ready for work. I work as an assistant for a stupid man at a stupid bank. This stupid man's name is Richard, aka dick.
I get into the shower and get dressed and lightly apply some makeup before waving goodbye to the girls and taking a cab to work.
"Cameron you're late!" Richard exclaims as I enter the office. "It's only 7:50 sir and my name is Camille."
"Whatever Camel toe, just go grab my coffee." I roll my eyes and hand it to him, "I already got it."
He takes it from me and walks away. "A thank you would be nice," I mumble as I walk over to my desk. "Good morning Camille." Tyler greets me as he walks past my desk.
"Good morning," I say dreamily as he walks away. "Still drooling over that guy?" Susan chuckles as she comes toward me. I sigh, "That's all I can do."
"Um you can talk to him, he knows you exist don't be a wimp." I frown at her, "I'm not being a wimp, I just don't see any point talking to him."
"You have been crushing on that boy ever since your first day here. Go after him."
Susan is my friend here, everyone else doesn't really acknowledge me besides Tyler. Susan is in her late 20s and has been working for the bank for a couple of years, she was the only person who welcomed me when I started working here a year and a half ago.
Tyler started working here after me, and I have had the biggest crush on him since then. He's tall and lean and handsome and just so dreamy. He has light brown hair and blue eyes and he's just so ugh!
"You're not going to get anywhere with him if you don't try to start a conversation." She looks over toward Tyler, "Hey Tyler! Camille wants to show you something!" She exclaims.
"What are you doing!" I whisper as Tyler walks towards us. "What's up?" He asks me. I sit there frozen with a smile on my face. I'm unable to move, unable to speak, just there.
Susan hits my arm lightly, "Um she just wanted to tell you your shirt was nice." I still don't move, just stare at him. He chuckles, "Well thank you, Camille." He looks me over. "Your hair is cute, I never get to tell you that."
"T-thank you." I stutter out. He gives me a breathtaking smile before walking away. "You're welcome." Susan smirks. I touch my hair with a smile, "He likes my hair."
"Of course he does, who wouldn't? It's bouncy and curly." She compliments. I turn to her, "He likes my hair." I repeat.
"Oh gosh, get to work Cam." She laughs. I get to work with a smile on my face all day until it's time for me to go home. I was even still smiling while Richard insulted me all day.
When I finally got home I told the girls about my exciting day. "Wait are you talking about that white boy you've been crushing on?" Mitchie asks. I nod, "His name is Tyler remember? Not white boy."
"Yeah, yeah, is that all that happened today?" Rosa asks. I try to think back to anything interesting that happened today. "Richard called me Cameltoe," I say with an eye roll.
Mitchie and Rosa burst out laughing, "You really need to give him a good ole black eye."
"And a nice kick in the nuts. He treats you so terribly." Mitchie adds.
I sigh, "I know but I need the job."
"You could always get your fine-ass older brother down here to beat his ass anonymously." Rosa giggles. I roll my eyes again playfully, "Leave Elijah out of this."
"If he hears about your boss he'll come down here willingly," Rosa says.
"Exactly so let's continue not letting it slip out every time he visits."
"When is his next visit?" Mitchie asks.
I shrug, "Whenever he feels like it."
My older brother is extremely overprotective and he comes down here to New Jersey to check on me every once in a while. My parents died when we were in high school so we're all each other has left. I was 14 when they died and Elijah was 17. It was really hard on both of us, I was just starting high school and Elijah was about to graduate. It crushed him that they didn't get to see him walk to the stage, so he almost didn't even go. I had to remind him that they weren't the only ones waiting for him to graduate high school and that I was still here.
Hence why he's very overprotective of me, he doesn't want anything to happen to me and I don't want anything to happen to him. Our mom was an only child and my dad had a sister who died in childbirth, the baby died as well and our uncle doesn't really talk to us. I think it's just too hard for him.
But yeah anyway Elijah is my best friend and I'd give a lung for him. Rosa has a huge crush on him and she's had it since we were in high school. Rosa and I go way back to middle school where she was a new kid and I was her first friend. We met Mitchie our first year of college and she moved in with us after college.
"I'm heading to bed guys," I tell the girls. "Sweet dreams." Rosa winks. Mitchie laughs, "You sicko."
I shake my head at them before heading to my bedroom.
