Chapter 31

Fire

Three. The Perfect Number

MADISON

She returned to the house at 5 p.m. and had a small snack to tide her over.

And when she went into the bedroom to get ready, another—much larger—box was waiting on the bed.

Grinning, she jumped in the shower and quickly cleaned the beach off her before returning to the bedroom and opening the box.

It held a luxurious black satin dress with a fitted bodice and a long flowing skirt. She slipped it on and looked at herself in the mirror.

Cap sleeves revealed her toned upper arms and shoulders, and the neckline was round and wide and left just enough skin exposed to show off the snowflake necklace.

A long deep slit on the right side reached from her ankle to almost the top of her thigh.

She applied light makeup to her sun-kissed skin as her hair dried in beachy waves, and as she fussed with the finishing touches to her hair, she looked at the clock.

It was 7:02 p.m.

“Shit!” She’d been waiting all day for this time to come, and now she was late.

She gave herself one last glance in the mirror and smoothed the satin fabric of her dress one more time.

For some reason she was nervous, her stomach tying itself in a thousand knots.

She took a deep breath—~It’s just the twins, relax—~and left the room.

Her breath died in her throat halfway down the stairs.

The sight in front of her was like a dream.

The living room was illuminated only by lanterns and candles, forming a path that she followed outside, to a part of the grounds she hadn’t seen before.

And waiting for her there were the two sexiest, hottest men on earth.

Ethan’s hair was styled back off his face, which was clean-shaven now, giving more definition to his sharp jaw and making him look even more like his brother.

“We thought you weren’t coming,” he growled.

His eyes were somehow greener and more intense, and the fitted white linen shirt and elegant black trousers he wore left little to the imagination.

Levi looked just as divine, with his hair in deliberately tousled curls and his bright amber eyes shining in the candlelight.

He grinned. “You almost made him come running upstairs to find you.”

He was dressed the same as his brother, but in different colors. His shirt was gray, and his trousers were dark blue.

When she reached them, Ethan rested a hand on her lower back and kissed her gently. “You look stunning, Madison.”

Then Levi leaned in for a kiss of his own. “You do look beautiful, ’Flake. And you smell divine.”

“Thank you. You two look breathtaking yourselves.”

Madison took their arms, one on each side of her, and as they continued down the glowing path she looked around, eyes wide, and whispered, “I feel like I’m in a dream.”

Ethan chuckled softly. “That was the plan.”

“But why?”

“Because we’ve only been on one proper date,” Levi explained as they led her to a table in a clearing.

A white cloth showed off the bright red rose petals scattered on top, and the candles all around made everything look soft and ethereal.

Ethan pulled out her chair before they took their own seats, and then he handed her a glass of champagne.

“And because we want you to have a good memory of this night. A special memory.” He lifted his glass.

“Well, it’s working,” she assured them, raising her own glass. “I’m already having the time of my life.”

“To us,” Ethan said, his eyes sparkling, and they all clinked their glasses together.

To her surprise, three servers appeared in the clearing, placing plates of food in front of them.

“Wow. You brought waitstaff to the island?”

“And a chef. We told you, tonight’s special.”

Flushed with happiness, she kissed them both and said, “With you two, it’s ~always~ special.” Then they began to eat, chatting and laughing between each bite.

The fresh night air, the sound of the waves nearby, the salty smell of the ocean—it all served to create the perfect backdrop to the best date she could possibly imagine.

After dinner and coffee, the three of them settled into a strangely comfortable silence.

Strange, because the air was thick with anticipation—and the warmth in her chest and the fullness of her heart just added to it.

A few months ago, being with the twins would never have crossed her mind.

But now? Now she felt like the luckiest girl on the planet.

“You okay, ’Flake?” Ethan said, and his deep voice felt like a virtual embrace.

“I was just thinking about how lucky I am.” She gazed at each of them in turn. “This night has been amazing, and I truly couldn’t ask for more.”

“We’re the lucky ones,” Levi insisted. “And we ~want~ to give you more.” He stood and held out his hand. “Come.”

The authority in his voice made her rise without a second thought, and as she took his outstretched hand, Ethan came up beside her.

Her heart pounded in her chest as Levi led them away from the table, and her body trembled in anticipation.

As they approached the canopy bed, the gauze curtains moving softly in the warm breeze, Madison let her eyes roam around the garden.

Lit by candles in the twilight, it was like a fairy tale.

“We would do anything to see you smile,” Levi whispered, and the sudden presence of his hand on her waist made her shiver.

“We wanted a way to let you understand how special you are to us,” she heard Ethan add behind her. He took a step forward and rested his hand on her bare shoulder.

“With you we’ve finally found our missing piece.” He slid his hands up to her neck and, after lifting the mass of her hair and moving it aside, unhooked her necklace.

He let it twirl on his finger as he moved to her front. “You see, we wanted something to let you see things how ~we~ see them.”

With a quick click, he pulled the snowflake apart into three identical pieces.

Her breath caught, and Ethan smiled.

“We can’t make a whole if we don’t have all the pieces.”

Taking two chains out of his pocket, Levi stepped forward and threaded a piece of the snowflake charm onto each one.

The twins shared a look, then returned their eyes to Madison.

“I love you,” they said in unison.

“And we would love it if you would be our girlfriend,” Ethan concluded. “Officially.” He handed one necklace to Levi and carefully replaced Madison’s around her neck.

“I love you too.” The words left her mouth almost before she’d processed what was happening. Her heart was pounding, her knees were shaking, and all she could hear were fireworks in her head.

“And I would love to be your girlfriend. Officially.”

Ethan took her hand and took a few steps backward toward the canopy bed, tugging her toward him as he sat on the edge.

It took her a moment to realize what he wanted, but when Ethan’s hands ran over her lower back, she pulled her dress up slightly and straddled him.

When she felt his growing bulge between her legs, she was glad she’d opted to avoid ruining the sleek lines of her dress.

Ethan wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her closer, grinding her against his erection as he claimed her mouth. She parted her lips with a moan.

~God, he tastes good.~

He reached between them to find the source of her heat.

“God, Madison…no panties?”

His surprise made her giggle, and he suddenly spun her around, laying her flat on the bed.

The moment her back touched the bed, she bent her legs and pulled up her dress, giving Levi, who stood at the foot of the bed, a view of her bare pussy.

“What are you trying to do to us, ’Flake?” he groaned as he hurried to take off his shirt and trousers.

She reached for him the moment he crawled onto the bed, pulling him to her and teasing his lips with her tongue.

Then she opened her mouth to kiss him deeply, gasping against his mouth when she felt Ethan’s warm lips on her inner thighs.

“Oh, Madison,” she heard him say, only inches away from her core.

And his hot breath against her skin had her crying out in anticipation.
