Chapter 22

Sunday Dinner

Three. The Perfect Number

MADISON

“Looks like someone got some sun this weekend,” Liam commented when Madison walked into the kitchen on Sunday evening.

“Hey, sis.” He hugged her tightly.

“Hey, Liam. Day went well?” She moved from his embrace to Ezra’s.

“Yeah. Can’t complain. It feels great to have the new gym finally open.”

“How was your day off ?” Ezra asked her. “Did you see that guy you were dating?”

Though they’d both been at the gym this afternoon, they’d only seen each other in passing.

“Yeah, it was good. The guy? Um, oh yeah…I did. We hung out together at the beach on Saturday, and then had lunch by his pool today.”

And it was the truth, though not the ~whole~ truth. Her weekend had been wonderful. So much uninterrupted time with the twins, she felt spoiled with it.

Ezra pressed his lips together, obviously not pleased by her answer, so Liam—ever the peacemaker—jumped in.

“We can see that.” He pushed her hair away from her face, flipping the heavy mass behind her back. “Look how red your cheeks are!”

Ezra’s eyes dropped to her shoulder. “What the hell is ~that~?”

~Oh shit.~

Madison’s hand flew to the faded love bite.

She’d left her hair down to air-dry after her shower and hadn’t thought to re-apply the makeup.

“Leave me alone, guys,” she said, feeling her cheeks get hot.

“Ooh, little Madison is blushing,” Liam teased, and she could tell he was trying to keep things light to make amends for the accidental reveal.

“She has a hickey!”

“Come on, Ez, it’s no big deal,” Liam said, still laughing. “She ~is~ twenty-one.”

“She’s still a baby!” Ezra snapped just as Ethan and Levi walked in, making her blush only deepen. “Who did that, huh? Who is this guy?”

“Ezra, give her a break,” Ethan said.

“Yeah, it’s fine,” Levi added, giving her a brotherly side hug.

But Ezra just scowled. “It’s not fine at all.”

So Madison said the only thing she could think of to change the subject. “Uh, Sam’s coming over for dinner.”

Ezra’s eyes lit up. “She is?”

Madison smothered a smile at how easily her brother had taken the bait, then elbowed Liam with a meaningful glance. Something was definitely going on there.

“Okay, well,” Ezra said, suddenly avoiding her eyes. “I don’t know about Liam, but I need a shower. Maddi, will you order some food?”

She agreed, and both of her brothers headed for the stairs.

“And make sure no boys come in while we’re up there,” Ezra added darkly on his way out of the room.

“Oh, if he only knew the boy he’s so mad at is actually us,” Ethan whispered once the coast was clear.

“We missed you today, ’Flake,” Levi said, then pressed his lips against hers, letting out a growl when hers parted to give him access to her tongue.

His hand moved softly from her face down her neck, then around her back until he had a grip firm enough on the small of her back to pull her body against his.

She felt his erection as the kiss became wetter and more heated.

Finally, he pulled away to take several deep breaths, and the look on his face was as hungry and lustful as Ethan’s, who was leaning against the kitchen island watching them.

“It’s going to be a long night,” Levi groaned, right before Sam’s greeting echoed through the house.

***

Madison looked around the outdoor dining table.

It looked just like it had so many times in the past: Liam was at the head, Madison was crowded between the twins, and Sam and Ezra sat across from them.

Almost as long as Madison could remember, they’d sat this way. There was hardly ever an “adult” with them—not a real one anyway.

But things weren’t ~exactly~ like before. The hands sliding in unison along each of her legs gave proof to that.

Madison took a huge bite of her pizza and pressed her thighs together, trying hard not to show anything on her face.

“So, Madison. Any chance you could cover some classes for me tomorrow?” Liam asked.

The black circles under his eyes showed how tired he was. Getting the new gym up and running must have really taken it out of him.

“Sure. What classes do you have?”

“Usual. Mixed adult, kids, and that’s all for tomorrow. I canceled a one-on-one.”

She nodded and took another bite, then almost choked when she felt the twins’ hands push their way between her thighs, then work together to ease them apart.

“How come ~you’re~ so tired?” Ethan asked. “Ezra seems fine.” He threw a piece of pizza at Ezra, who was weirdly silent, with his unoccupied hand.

“Tell ’em, bro,” Liam said.

Everyone looked expectantly at Ezra—except for Sam, Madison noticed.

“He’s just annoyed because I went out last night instead of staying home and working on some last-minute stuff with him,” Ezra muttered. “But he had ~Sara~ to help.”

He tossed the piece of pizza back at Ethan. “I hope you’re paying her ~a lot~ to put up with this workaholic.”

“What about you, Sam? Is there anything ~you~ would like to share?” Madison asked, working hard to control her breathing. Ethan’s fingers were now rubbing her pussy, covered only by a layer of already-quite-wet lace.

Thank God Liam’s attention was on the other side of the table. And that it was getting dark.

Sam blinked innocently. “What do you mean?”

“C’mon, Sam. I wasn’t born yesterday.”

Sam slapped Ezra’s arm playfully. “I told you she’d figure it out!” She gave Madison puppy-dog eyes. “He forced me to keep it secret. I wanted to tell you.”

Whatever Madison might have said in reply was lost to a coughing fit as Levi pulled her panties aside to allow Ethan access to her bare skin.

Ezra scratched the back of his neck while he waited for her to stop coughing, then sighed. “It’s true. I did want to tell you, but it feels like you’ve been avoiding me, like you don’t want to talk to me anymore.”

He shrugged. “And I wanted all of us to be together when I told you. I figured you’d probably murder me otherwise. She ~is~ your best friend.”

Madison slammed her thighs together, forcing the twins’ hands away. She needed to be able to focus on what she was about to say.

“You thought I wouldn’t be ~happy~ for you?” She pushed her skirt down, then stood and walked around the table to the new couple.

“Well, you’re wrong! It’s ~because~ you’re my brother and ~because~ she’s my best friend that I’m happy. Thrilled, in fact. You’re the people I love the most! Along with these other morons, of course.

“If it so happens that the people I love the most can make each other happy, who am I to stop you? How selfish and unloving would that be?”

She wrapped her arms around Ezra's shoulders, hoping he was taking notes for when she told him ~her~ big secret.

“But just so you know…you hurt her, and I ~will~ murder you.” She kissed his cheek to take the sting away before turning to Sam.

“And you! We have some serious talking to do, bitch.” Madison winked at Sam and kissed her on the cheek too.

“C’mere,” Ezra said, grabbing Madison’s wrist and pulling her onto his lap. “I hate you, you know that?”

“Well, this went better than we thought,” Sam commented, then took a gigantic bite of her pizza.

“Love you,” Madison whispered in Ezra’s ear before standing up. “Anyone want a drink?”

Just as she expected, everyone nodded.

She was selecting beers from the kitchen fridge when two hands landed on her shoulders, making her jump.
