N A D A' SÂ P O V
"Ughhh. . . You idiot this is not how you are supposed to hold her. What do you know? Nothing." I scolded harshly to Fahad.
"Shut your irritating voice! I am holding Alizah way better than you. Actually you know nothing." He gritted his teeth at me. Why is he so rude? Like whyyyyyy?
"Now, you, AliBoo whom do you like most? Huh? This devil." I pointed out at him with a disgusting face. "Or this angel?'' I pointed out at myself with a bright smile. Well, I am biased. Guess I seriously talk too much. I cringed at myself. Ugh that was so cringe-worthy but things you have to do for giving comebacks to your enemy.
"What is AliBoo?" The good for nothing person opened his mouth.
"A stoic person like you will never know these kind of things. It's a nickname, you dummy." I rolled my eyes at him.
"If you know nothing about me. Then don't assume." He said sternly and turned to the other side.
Huh? What happened to him? To be honest, I have actually noticed some changes in him.
Previously when we met first time at Rahim & Mira's Ruksati he was full of life also at the office when he and Rahim, his best friend and Mira's husband, pranked Mira and me and not to forget when Mira and Rahim were almost divorced, he was such a chill person and always the laid back one. But know something's off with him.
Anyway what do I know about him? I haven't met him since one month, like usually too if I would go at Mira's house, he used be there eating all the dishes made by Rahim's Mom and chilling with Rahim, but since a month he hasn't been seen there too. However, who cares about this Mr-I-get-moodswings-all-the-time. Huh. I guess mood swings are messing him up.
"Come on. Let's go." I heard my Mom's voice, finally she came after locking the door.
"Yes. Let's go." I moved forward followed by Mom, Fahad and Alizah.
We reached at Fahad's house. The whole way my Mom constantly interrogating both of us and played with Alizah too. I told you my Mom loves kids.
"Come on. Now it's your turn to ring the bell. Come on." I urged him turning towards Fahad.
"And this time Alizah is also not in your hands, she is with Mom. So come on." I gave him a victorious smile.
"Such a bad person you are." He remarked narrowing his eyes at me.
"Umm...Maybe, but not worse than you." I glared.
"Fine whatever." He finally ranged the bell.
The door flew open and Aunt Naaz opened the door.
"Faddy? Where were you? Oh and Ayesha how are you and Nada you both are here too at this hour. What happened? Is everything alright?" She was really overwhelmed of our sudden-presence. Yes she is our neighbor and I didn't know that Fahad was her son until I got to know him on Rahim and Mira's Ruksati. I just knew that my mother visited some lady in the neighbourhood which was Aunt Naaz.
Even though she looked old she didn't fail to prove that she was a beautiful woman in her time.
"And whose is this little munchkin?" Aunt Naaz was surprised looking at Alizah who was already looking at her with wide eyes.
"She is Alizah." Fahad and I said together. Then I turned to glare at him who was already glaring at me.
"Huh? Don't tell me it's your both's? Fahad how could you?" She gasped. Why are Moms so dramatic? First my Mom and now Aunt Naaz too. Help me out God.
"Mom! No. . . She is not our baby." Fahad spoke as if he had just asked to drink raw eggs. Ugh. Ew. I can never! Shoutout to the people who do/did that.
"Then why does she have your hair and Nada's eyes?" The same question?
Why?!
"Mom if any baby has emerald coloured eyes and light brown hair doesn't mean that it is our baby." He cried with utter disgusted facial expression.
"Then whose is she?" Asked Aunt.
"That was my question too when these both knocked at my door with Alizah in hands and ushering me to come here to answer all of my questions. What are you hiding kids? Tell us please." My mom told.
"She was given to us to take care of her by a woman." I spoke in a low voice.
This is gonna be way difficult than I thought it would be.
"Huh?! What kind of joke is this?" Aunt Naaz exclaimed.
"Mo-" Fahad was cut off by when a girl started ascending downstairs, rubbing her eyes. That's Uméma. Uméma Layla Sheikh.
"What happened Mom?" She asked rubbing her eyes.
"Nothing honey. It's okay you go upstairs." Aunt said.
"Mumma still honey? I am eighteen years old now." She whined.
"You will always be my honey, my beauty." Aunt cooed and gently pinched her cheeks. Beauty. Ofcourse she was more than the word 'beauty' could describe her. With the mint shade of blue, her eyes resembled the water of Carribean Sea and long black hair made her look like a galway girl.
"Oh. Asalamwalaikum (peace be upon you) Aunt Ayesha and Nada." Uméma greeted us.
"Walaikumasalam (peace be upon you too) dear how are you?" Mum asked.
"Alhumdullillah (with God's grace) fine. You?" Uméma inquired. Something was off with her. She was not as jolly she used to be.
Yes I knew her. I met her at Rahim and Mira's wedding and she used to visit both at our house so I also know her. But she doesn't visit us anymore though.
"We are also good." I smiled at her.
"Oh my God?! Who is this cutie?" She squealed and took Alizah from Mom's hands. Finally some emotions revealed on her face.
"Oh My God! She has such amazing color of her eyes and her hai-Hawwww-"
"No. It's not ours." I and Fahad both uttered together. I knew she was going to say the same thing which Mom and Aunt Naaz asked.
Also I am just going to ignore the fact that we again said something together.
"Uh. . . But her eyes and her hair?" She looked up at me. Confusion evident on her face.
"Is it necessary for that to happen?" Fahad chimed in agitatedly.
"Umm, No." Uméma answered and then gave a big grin at Alizah.
"As we were saying that we were given Alizah by a woman named Samaira-" Fahad started to explain when Uméma butted in.
"So you simply happily accepted?!" She asked confusedly.
"Listen first- so she told that someone dropped her at her doorstep and she tried to take care of Alizah but she couldn't because she herself was very poor. And look at this cute little face who could say no to her. Fahad tried to stop but no I couldn't. I couldn't just let her go. You know I like kids so much, right Mom?" I finally explained in one go.
"Yes. There's no doubt that we couldn't leave her." Fahad joined.
"But why you both only?" Aunt Naaz asked.
"Our car broke down. So we decided to walk back home. And that Samaira lady was watching us and according to her her we were financially stable enough to take care of another human being and she pleased us to adopt or take care of Alizah because she also couldn't see a this tiny bundle of joy also live like her, in poverty." I sighed, at the last, sadly. I didn't allow Fahad to speak because he is very blunt and wouldn't explain things properly.
"Then what did you guys decide?" Mom questioned.
"That for one week I will take care of her and then Nada the next week, we would continue this until we find her parents." Fahad drawled out.
"And when will the hunt start for her parents?" Uméma asked.
"Tomorrow." Again!! Ugh...again I and Fahad said it together. UGHHHHHHHHH.
And that didn't go unnoticed by Uméma who started wiggling her eyebrows at me. Here we go.
"So what do you all think? Did we do the right thing?" Fahad asked looking expectantly at them.
"Yes. And it's a good thing that we have got a baby." Aunt Naaz squealed.
"Of course, even I am excited." Uméma also joined.
"Yes. Alizah is always welcomed." Mom smiled at Alizah and at that Alizah decided to start crying so I took her from Uméma's hand and started rocking her back and forth.
"Fahad give the bottle." I asked him hurriedly.
"Bottle?" He asked with confusion. From tomorrow he seriously needs to start working on his memory power, doesn't remember anything. I wonder if he remembers his own name. The last one was very dumb of me. Not more than Fahad though.
"The bottle with a teat." I pressed and chuckled remembering that he said these exact words at the medical store earlier.
"Oh. Now you are making fun of me." He raised his eyebrows at me.
"Umm. . . What do you think?"
"Shut your mouth. Your presence is suffocating me."
"Shall I bring an oxygen cylinder for you?"
"Even that won't help. You are toxic." At this I gasped at Fahad's words.
"I am telling you if Alizah wasn't in my hands then-" He cut me off.
"Then what?"
"Wait I'll show you." I went and handed Alizah to Uméma who was sitting on the couch almost sleeping . I looked back to see Mom and Aunt Naaz talking and were in thier own world talking about God knows what.
I took the television remote and simply threw at him.
And it him on his collar bone I guess.
"You dumb woman." He hollered at me. Oops shouldn't have done that. But guess what? I already did. Haha.
"Umm...it was meant to hurt you." I answered smartly.
"A television remote, I see. You wait and watch now. The war is on." He raised his finger at me.
"On it is then." I answered daringly. And glared at him who was doing the same.
"Please break out of your trances and please pass the bottle, Fahad!" Uméma interrupted.
"Do not eat her. Be kind and gentle. I will come next week to take her. Handle with care." I ordered him.
"Oh I will handle her better than you could. Now get lost." He dismissed.
"Gladly." And I turned back.
What's gonna happen Allah?
