chapter 78

     I was in hospital sitting on bed waiting for a family member to show up when I myself hadn't called anyone. That moron was out on his phone I don't know getting whom. I just hope he phones my dad and not his own. I can't trust him with literally anything atleast not when I myself had to call for rickshaw with a bleeding leg because he was the one who got scared. I tried to get down from the bed only to be subjected to scolding for the 3rd time. " Madam please stop moving so much you'll end up opening the wound and undoing the bandages. We will inform you when someone comes for you!", the nurse put me back in . This is damn frustrating! Where the hell did this moron go to die?       After an eternity of waiting finally I saw that idiot. " Where did you-" , I stopped as I saw the two figures following him.    "  Miss Vibhavari Mahajan? You are the victim?" , he asked and I nodded.     Police? I looked at him for an explanation. Of all people to call he called police? As if reading my eyes he defensively shook his head no . " Can you narrate what happened? If you are comfortable and in right state of mind to do so."" Umm yes sir. I was coming back home and on the signal I slowed down. I saw someone step out of bushes and I didn't have time to react. I tried to avoid hitting him and ended up falling. ", I gave my part of narrative. " You tried to avoid hitting him and that's when the vehicle crashed onto him ?" , he asked and I nodded. Now don't tell me he died after getting hit by me? " That's all you know?" , I nodded. " Anything you want to add ?", I shook my head. " Who is he?" , they asked looking at Abhijit. " Friend.", Abhi answered before me and then stepped back immediately at one glare from me." He is a friend.", I confirmed." You said you were going to meet her? What for?" , he directed the question to him ." I wanted to apologise.", he said and bit down his lip. " What for?"" I - "" He's actually my ex. We are over . Just friends.", I added knowing very well it would be next year until words come out of his throat." Have you called your family over? ", he asked me and I looked at moron while officer looked at me. " You called my dad?" , I asked him and he just stood an entire statue of guilt." I- I don't have uncle's number -", he blurted out looking everywhere but at the officer." Whom did you call?", I asked while he looked between me and officer. " A-a-ar-suhi. ", he mumbled looking guilty. " What the hell!? Why would you -moron! ", I forgot my surroundings while cursing at him." Who's Arushi?", the officer asked . I had to bite my tongue to not say my wife." My roommate." , I answered." Why do you have her roommate's number but not her family 's?", the officer asked him and he looked at me.      This kind of looked weird to me. What's all this about? Why is he digging so much into an accident? Did that guy really die? I won't take the blame though, I mean he popped  out of nowhere.    " I- I used to - I -" , he was blurting nervously while looking between me and officer. Do I have to answer everything for him now? " Vibha?", Arushi stepped in at the right time but stopped when she saw the officer. " Do you know her?" , the officer asked me and I confirmed she was Arushi. She nervously walked over to my side all confused but more of concerned. " Do you know him?", he asked pointing at the pale faced Abhijit who seemed like he just hoped she doesn't deny his existence. She nodded timidly. I held her hand out of instinct recognising the nervous expression on her face. That earned us a brief glance from the female officer who didn't comment on it though." Can you state your relation to him?" She looked at me and I nodded knowing very well what she wanted my permission for." He is Vibha' s ex." " That's how you know him? Why does he have your number?" , there was something about the tone that created a tensed environment making the situation tensed. She looked at him and then at me. How was she to answer that?" Let me change the question. Did you give him?" , the female officer rephrased it . Arushi shook her head no. The officer threw one straight glare at him and noted something. What's this all even about. Aru looked at me , the confusion taking form of fear . I brushed my thumb over the back of  her palm to assure her. " What's you relation to her?"" She's my crush." , he finally answered and the officer folded her arms in front of her chest walking closer. " So you stalked her?" , she asked . It kind of looked intimidating and I can tell he was scared from the way he retreated into the little space between him and the curtain. " N-no-I-" " Shut up! People like you stalk the girls you like and make their life a living hell if they reject or dump you! You try to destroy their lives and -" , the male officer held her back and she stopped taking a deep breath trying to what looked to calm herself. From what I analyse now this ain't just about the accident. What's going on? " I guess we need to talk to you. I beleive you would like to call your parents over. " , the male officer said to him. His eyes were already glossy and he might just burst into tears any next moment. What even was going on? " Can I talk you for a moment?" , the lady officer asked taking Arushi away. I am the only left out confused injured victim who doesn't have any clue what's going on. They stepped out for God knows how long while I sat there classifying all whites of the hospital into different shades. They haven't even given me my phone. If that thing even is in one piece anymore. I should have taken Aru's. After what felt like almost a decade she finally came back. " Where were you? You know how bored I was-" , I stopped the moment I saw the look on her face. " What happened?" , I asked but she didn't respond. Only walked over and sat besides me . I shifted a bit to let her sit comfortably. And before I could question her anymore she just wrapped her hands around me and engulfed me into a tight hug . " Woah- what's even wrong? I am not being sent to jail now am I?"" You still have the nerve to joke?" I didn't even get the time to react as she started venting it out," I TOLD YOU THIS WAS SERIOUS!! I TOLD YOU TO TELL UNCLE WHEN YOU CAUGHT HIM STALKING!! NO YOU ARE ALWAYS SO OVERCONFIDENT. NOTHING WOULD HAPPEN! I CAN HANDLE IT! YOU NEVER EVER EVEN LISTEN! WHY ARE YOU SO RECKLESS -!??", "Hey hey calm down miss or you'd end up being the murderer here.", the lady officer stepped in before Aru could have shaken the life out of me. She stopped and apologized." I mean even if she does end up killing me, know that it'd be consented. If my wife wants something she gets it , even if it's my life.", I don't know why I thought it was a good moment to flirt. It definitely wasn't. Aru gave me the most murderous look she had ever given before. I bit back the regret looking at the officer who had a hint of amusement in her eyes." If you do end up murdering her some day be assured I will be justifying it for you. I know the frustration.",that caught both of us off gaurd.I looked at Aru and just as me she too looked as if she wanted to question the officer about it but held back. So did I. I don't want to die this early at the hands of either of them.The door opened again as a lady stepped in . It took me second to realise it was,My mother in law???
