Chapter 9.

THE LIGHT OF LOVE | JENLISA

Through half open eyes Lisa noticed a glass of water and two pills next to her bed. Her mom must have put them there, she was so thoughtful, Lisa made a mental note to herself to thank her for that. Groaning loudly she sat up, put the pills in her mouth and drank the entire glass in one go. She fell back onto the pillow, the headache was almost unbearable.

But then she recalled the events from last night and her headache didn't seem like such a big problem anymore. It was all a blur, but she could remember most of it. The guy who seemed so cool turned out to be a piece of shit who drugged her and... almost took advantage of her. Should she go to the police? No, that was out of the question, she didn't have any evidence, she was drunk and besides, what would she tell them? That she was saved by a girl with some kind of strange magic powers?

Lisa could almost feel the man's hands on her body again and shivered in fear thinking of what could've happened if Jennie hadn't appeared out of nowhere...Yeah, Jennie saved her, no doubt about that.

And then Lisa suddenly realized how insane was the display of power that she witnessed. In front of her own eyes Jennie turned into some kind of superhero with the ability to control things around her. She never believed in stuff like that, but her rational mind had to accept it now. How was it called? Telekinesis? Yeah, that's the word. Jennie had telekinetic powers, which was a frightening thought except that... Lisa was more fascinated than scared.

She remembered how Jennie took her home... and how somewhere along the way she put a blanket over her because Lisa was still shaking after the dreadful experience. She was very sweet and caring, more like Jennie from her dream than Jennie from real life. They didn't talk much because Lisa was still quite dazed and Jennie didn't seem eager to make conversation. But one thing was clear, Jennie didn't remember the things she had done, it was as if she had become another person and then went back to being Jennie again. And besides, what was she doing there in the first place?

"Damn, it's all so messed up." Lisa couldn't help thinking.

When she closed her eyes, another scene from last night popped in her mind. After dropping her at her house, they said their goodbyes when suddenly Jennie gave Lisa that weird look. What was it in her gaze? Anger? No. Disapproval? Maybe a little, but no... Disappointment. Yes, that was it. Extreme disappointment.

Lisa felt tears coming to her eyes. "She told me I shouldn't drink anymore... and I did. And when I got into trouble because of it, it was she who had to save me. I screwed up, I really screwed up big time." The feeling of guilt overcame her. "I let her down..." Lisa just couldn't unsee those beautiful feline eyes filled with disappointment. Finally she couldn't hold it anymore and started sobbing while tears were finding their way across her cheeks, moistening the pillow under her head.

***

Little did Lisa know that at the same time Jennie was crying in her room too. Yesterday evening she was calmly sitting at home when all of a sudden an ominous feeling overcame her mind. She felt that Lisa was in danger, that someone was planning to hurt her. The sensation was so real that she immediately rushed outside, her anger and fear skyrocketing...

And the next thing she remembered was standing in a dark alley, looking at a man lying in the pool of blood in front of her, screaming in pain. The ground was littered with junk as if a tornado had just passed right through. Jennie instantly realized that she must've blacked out. And during this blackout she became someone else, another person who she couldn't control. But the worst realization was that she must've done something strange and frightening because Lisa was kneeling at her feet, begging her to stop and her eyes... Jennie trembled remembering how much fear she saw in these big brown eyes. She didn't care about what other people thought of her, but with Lisa it was different, for whatever reason Jennie didn't want to be a weirdo in her eyes. "She was obviously afraid of me... I lost control of myself and almost killed a man, no wonder she must think I'm some scary psycho freak... Maybe even worse... A monster."

"I'm a monster to her." the words echoed in her mind, as she was swallowing salty tears. She felt so crushed that for the first time she questioned herself and her plan. Was she doing the right thing with Lisa? Maybe she just imagined that Lisa was unhappy... Besides, who was she to dictate how Lisa should live her life? "Perhaps Lisa was right and I should concentrate on my life and stop trying to change hers... Maybe I should just stop..." she thought and desperate sadness filled her heart.

"No, I won't give up, I won't." she whispered and with the last spark of determination she wiped away the tears.
