288 Vouchers Chapter 25: Ayla âWhat?â I replied. âNothing is going on.â
âAre you sure about that?â Emma asked, taking a sip of emonade. âAlpha has been spending an awful lot of time here. Plus, he has you staying here. Heâs hired a home nurse. Heâs covered your medical bills.â
âHe did what?â
âYou didnât know he covered the hospital bills?â
âNo,â I said, shaking my head. âNo, I did not. He really didnât have to do any of those things.â
âWell, he has,â Emma confirmed. âDonât get me wrong, Alpha is great, and he would do anything to take care of any pack member. But you being an outsider and a rogue â
â itâs a little unprecedented.â
no offense âYeah, I thought that too,â I said, picking up my glass. âBut it turns out my father saved his life when he was a kid. I had a picture of him in my car, and Kingston found it. So, I guess he just feels obligated to help.â
âWow, isnât that some twist of fate, huh?â Emma commented.
âYeah, I guess so. Plus, it was kind of his fault I crashed, so thereâs probably a little bit of guilt there, too,â I added.
âWell, there should be,â Emma said with a smile. âIâm glad he was there to help. And Iâm glad he convinced you to stay. Youâ ve already become my favorite patient. And not just because 1/5 youâre my easiest by far.â
We both laughed.
âSo, do you have any ideas what you will do once youâre mobile again?â
âIâm not sure,â I said, taking a drink. âIâve thought about enrolling in a university. I didnât get a chance to go to college after I graduated, which kind of sucked because I got a couple scholarships offered.â
âThatâs awesome,â Emma exclaimed. âWhy didnât you take them?â
âThatâs a long story. In the end, it just wasnât in the cards for me at the time,â I said.
âWell, then you should definitely go for it now.â
âYeah, itâs still on the list. I was also thinking about starting my own publishing company. I know the industry well and have some good contacts,â I threw out there. âBut these are all just ideas. Iâll need to take care of the whole rogue situation before any of that can be addressed.â
âAlpha has offered to bring you into the pack, hasnât he?â Emma asked.
âYeah, but he wants to make a thing of it. Do the whole ceremony thing and all that.â
âYou donât sound too enthusiastic about it.â
âNo, itâs fine and kind of sweet,â I rushed. âI just think itâs a bit much, I guess. Itâs just not something Iâm used to.â
2/5 O âThen tell Alpha that,â Emma suggested. âIf he wants you to do something youâre uncomfortable with, he should know. Heâ Il respect it.â
âYouâre probably right,â I said with a smile.
âAnd youâre sure thereâs nothing more going on with him?â Emma asked intently.
I rolled my eyes. âNo, nothing else is going on.â
âYet...â Emma gave me a wink, making us both laugh again.
I guess I could see why Emma thought something was going on between me and Kingston. But I wasnât sure how I felt about that. I was still bound to someone. Whether I could or even wanted to be with him didnât really matter. It was hard to picture myself having feelings for anyone else while the bond was still in place. And that wouldnât be fair to Kingston if he thought something more was happening.
Not that I didnât like him.
I did. I liked him a lot. He was kind and thoughtful. We had great conversations. He made me laugh. He was very attractive. If we were in any other circumstance, I could easily see myself falling for him. But knowing my luck, Kingston. probably wasnât even interested in me that way.
Or wouldnât be... even if I could have feelings for him.
Could I have feelings for him?
âYouâre blushing,â Emma commented. âWhat were you thinking about?â
âNothing,â I said, feeling my cheeks get hotter.

r Chapter 25. Ayla 288 (Vouchers âMhmm,â Emma hummed. âSo, what do you two have planned tonight?â
I shrugged. âI donât know. Kingston wanted me to think of something for us to do together, but I have no idea what we can do sitting around here.â
â
âWe just met, and I like you â plus youâre my patient â so Iâm going to pretend you didnât just walk into that one,â Emma said through giggles. âBut since it seems taking advantage of our gorgeous Alpha isnât on your radar, what about a game night?â
I thought about it for a moment. âWhat kind of game night?â
âAnything you want. You could do board games, card games, trivia games,â Emma listed. âOh, or a murder mystery game.
Theyâve got some really fun ones for adults these days. That sounds like something that could be right up your alley, being a writer and all.â
âIâm not a mystery writer, Emma,â I clarified.
âNo, but you know how to tell a good story, and thatâs really the key to those things.â
âYeah, that does actually sound like fun,â I said.
âGood,â Emma said with a huge smile. âIâll message Alpha to pick up a game and something nice for dinner on his way back. Itâll be the perfect first date.â
âDate?â I exclaimed. âNo, no, weâre just hanging out since Iâm stuck here until Iâm healed enough. I donât even think Kingston thinks of me like that. Besides, he knows I... He knows recent events mean that Iâm not exactly available.â
4/5 III O 5/5 Chapter 25: Ayla 288 Vouchers âGirl, youâre adorable,â Emma said sweetly. âHe absolutely thinks of you like that. He may be taking it slow because of whatever youâve been through, but heâs definitely into you.â
Okay, what was I going to do with that information?
The ache from the bond was still just as present as before, so it wasnât like I could just forget about it. Well, except when I was with Kingston. Although, that effect seemed to only occur when he touched me.
Maybe he had that effect because I liked him? Or because he liked me? Or both?
I didnât know, but maybe it meant something.
