Chapter 35
Truth, Lies and Deception (the boyband series)
Abigail was finally released from the hospital later the next day. Rick came to pick her up and they went back to the hotel where they left their stuff.
âIâm going with you, you know.â Abigail said walking up to Rick, bags in hand. Rick looked up from the bag he was packing to look at her. He couldnât help the look of surprise that was on his face either. He thought he was going to have to demand that she come back with him so he could look after her and her injury, which he felt was his fault. Apparently he wasnât going to have to.
âWhy?â he asked, hiding his smile as he took the bags out of her hands and put them down. âIâll take care of those for you. You shouldnât be lifting anything heavy.â
Abigail sighed and brushed her hair over her shoulder.
âI thought that was obvious.â She took a seat and looked at him, âSomeoneâs trying to kill you, Rick and Jason assigned me to you so itâs my job to find this psychopath. Iâm not leaving your side until I do.â
He looked back at her then.
âIs that a promise?â
âWipe that smirk off your face, Camden.â She said shaking her head, âYou know what I mean.â
âYou should be home recovering,â Rick told her, âYouâre not my bodyguard. My bodyguards will be with me until youâre better.â
Abigail cocked an eyebrow.
âRight. It was your bodyguard that saved your life the other night.â
Rick winced.
âThey didnât even notice anything strange.â Abigail insisted.
âI get the point.â
âI should have made you wear a bullet proof vest just in case.â Abigail said more to herself than to him, âI shouldnât have taken any chances with you.â
âHey.â Rick said walking to her and putting his hands on her shoulders, âThis is not your fault, okay? And if anyone should have been wearing a bullet proof vest that night, it was you.â
Abigail let out a snort.
âRight. That would look so inconspicuous under my halter top.â
Rick smiled at the picture that presented before turning serious again.
âAt least you would have been safe.â
âLook Rick, Iâm the COP, youâre the big POP star. Iâm supposed to keep YOU safe, not the other way around.â
âI know, I know.â Rick said, putting up a hand, âYou keep reminding me.â
âGood.â
âI didnât know you had a gun.â He said then.
âWhat?â she wasnât sure sheâd heard him correctly.
âYou never told me you had a gun.â
âIâm a COP. Of course I have a gun.â She answered with a shrug. âHow did you know?â
âThe paramedics found it on you.â Rick told her.
Abigail nodded.
âHave you ever used it on anyone?â he asked.
She didnât look at him.
âMaybe once or twice.â
âYou ever killed anyone?â Rick asked. The question made her eyes meet his.
âNo.â
âIâm sorry.â
âFor what?â she asked startled.
âFor upsetting you.â
He was very perceptive, sheâd noticed, especially when it came to her. That wasnât good.
âIâm not upset really. I just donât like to talk about it.â She said.
He nodded, understanding what she meant. The phone rang then. Rick answered it then turned back to her.
âYou ready to go?â he asked her, picking up the bags. She nodded. âEver been to the Florida keys?â he asked then.
âNope.â
âThen this should be fun. All beach and hot sun.â
