Chapter 30
Truth, Lies and Deception (the boyband series)
Rick was walking towards the elevators when a pretty blonde caught his eye. His eyes lit up and he smiled as he called her name.
âDeej!â he shouted across the corridor to his younger sister.
âRickay!â she shouted back before he reached her and enveloped her into a bear hug.
âWhat the hell are you doing here?â he asked putting her down.
âJosh and I,â she began, referring to her boyfriend, âWere just visiting some friends. We were passing by and I saw the tour bus outside. Itâs pretty hard to miss.â
âWhere is Josh anyway?â Rick asked her, looking around.
âHe went to get us something to eat. He should be back any minute now.â DJ said flipping her blonde hair as she looked at her brother.
âI hope you guys are staying for the show tonight.â Rick said.
Debbie Jean Camden cringed.
âWe canât.â
When Rick opened his mouth to protest, she rushed on, âIâve got to get back to work and we promised Joshâs parents that weâd stop by before going back home.â
Rick folded his arms and pouted. DJ wasnât deterred. She was used to it by now.
âThat face is not going to change my mind, big brother.â She told him shaking her head, âIt may work on millions of other girls but not me.â
âAw come on Deej!â he said in that whiney voice he reserved for his siblings.
âI really want to Rick, but I canât.â she insisted.
âFine. Call me when youâre free and Iâll fly you to our venue.â
âOne of the perks of having a famous brother.â She said shaking her head.
âYou know you love me.â
She reached up and kissed his cheek.
âI do.â
She was about to walk away to find Josh, then paused, âDonât forget, Iâm still your sister so if you ever need to talk or anything, Iâm always here for you.â
Rick smiled his thanks, then grinned wickedly.
âActually,â he began walking up to her again, âThere is one tiny thing you could do for me.â
DJ raised her eyebrows as her brother related his plan.
**
Abigail was getting her bags packed when Rick came into the room.
âRick-â
âIâm really not in the mood to talk to you at the moment.â He told her, walking past her.
âI know.â She said softly, âLook Rick, we really need to find some middle ground here if we have to continue to work together.â
âThere is no middle ground.â Rick stated firmly.
A knock on the door sounded then.
âWould you mind getting that while I get my stuff to take to the venue.â He told her, his voice cold.
Abigail sighed and nodded just before he walked into the bedroom. She figured she deserved the cold shoulder after all the lies sheâd told him.
She opened the door and narrowed her eyes at the pretty, blonde girl before her.
âHi, can I help you?â Abigail asked.
The girl smiled sweetly.
âYeah. Iâm looking for Ricky.â She all but purred.
âExcuse me?â Abigail cocked an eyebrow.
Rick came out the bedroom then and the girl caught sight of him.
"Ricky!"
She squealed, pushing Abigail away to run up and jump on him, her legs wrapping around his waist.
âBaby!â Rick replied, holding on to her.
Abigail closed the door and watched the two, a twinge of jealousy crossed her as she watched the affection in Rickâs eyes for the girl he was holding.
She cleared her throat then and Rick cast her a glance before putting the blonde down.
âAbby, this is uh-â
âDebbie.â The girl said quickly, extending a hand to Abigail which she took hesitantly.
âAre you a friend of Rickâs?â Abigail asked her.
Debbie turned to wink at Rick before facing Abigail again.
âOh much more.â She replied seductively.
âAnd you are?â she eyes Abigail suspiciously.
âIâm his girlfriend.â Abigail said firmly.
âYouâre not my girlfriend.â Rickâs voice was flat.
Abigail gaped at him.
âI am.â
âNot.â Rick countered.
Abigail was appalled.
âRick-â
âBaby, why donât you wait for me in the bedroom, Iâll be there in a minute.â Rick said turning to Debbie.
âSure hun.â Debbie said. She smiled at Abigail before stepping into the bedroom and closing the door.
âRick, what the hell do you think youâre doing?â Abigail hissed, facing him, her hands on her hips.
âItâs just like you said.â Rick told her walking up to her until they were merely a foot apart. âThereâs nothing between us. And if youâre involved with Jason, why canât I be involved with someone as well?â
Abigail could only watch him dumbfounded. She said a quick prayer for patience before she continued.
âRick, are you forgetting that Iâm under cover? That weâre both playing a role here with âourâ relationship? And in order to make that believable we have to act like weâre in love! You canât just bring girls up to your hotel room. Someone is sure to notice-â
âI didnât bring anyone up here!â Rick broke in, âAnd as you said, weâre only pretending. Just because our relationship isnât real, doesnât mean I donât have real relationships with anyone else. With people who have real feelings for me and are willing to act on them!â
The room fell silent as those words hung in the air.
âSo it all comes back to sex, doesnât it?â she asked bitterly.
âDo you think sex is the only thing I want from you?â Rick asked harshly.
âIsnât it?â
âDamnit Abby.â He ran his hands through his hair as he looked at her. âWhat does it matter anyway? Youâre involved with Jason and youâve already explained it loud and clear why you canât sleep with me. Just because youâre not getting any right now, doesnât mean that Iâm not either.â
She would never let him know how much those words hurt her.
âRick-â
âWhy donât you go wait in the bus. Iâll be down in a minute.â
âBut-â
âJust go.â
She turned her back and left the room.
DJ came out the bedroom then and saw the hurt look on his face.
âI hope you know what youâre doing big brother.â She said, putting an arm around him.
âI hope so too.â He murmured.
