Chapter 27
Truth, Lies and Deception (the boyband series)
âYou really do care about your fans donât you?â Abigail asked Rick when the elevator starting moving.
âOf course I do!â he told her a bit surprised by the question, âI canât believe after all this time weâve spent together, you donât know me by now.â He faced her.
She nodded. âYouâre right.â
âHow come the other guys didnât go meet them?â she asked.
âTheyâre probably going to go now. They like to settle in a bit first.â Rick informed her.
The elevator bell sounded then indicating that they were at their floor. They both stepped out and walked towards their room just as AJ came out of his, which was next to theirs.
âHave you guys seen my girlfriend?â he asked walking up to them.
âOh yeah. Sheâs downstairs in the lobby. She said something about a toothbrush.â Rick said.
âRight. She forgot hers at the last hotel.â AJ said remembering, âThanks.â
Rick swiped his card on the door as AJ walked off.
âI really need to get some rest before our show tonight.â Rick stated as they walked in and dropped their bags.
âSure. Go ahead. The bedâs all yours.â Abigail said.
âToo bad.â Rick replied, facing her, âI was actually pretty open to the idea of sharing.â
âRick-â
âI want you, Abby.â He whispered.
âI know.â She sighed.
âYou know weâd be really good together.â He continued.
âWe keep dancing around this issue.â Abigail said putting her fingers to her temples, âWeâve been through this a hundred times, Iâm not going to get into it again with you.â
âFine.â Rick said and was about to walk away but changed his mind. He walked up to her instead and looked straight into her eyes. âJust know one thing,â he continued, âIâm going to have you in my bed before this tour is through.â
Abigailâs heart hammered in her chest at the look in his eyes before he walked away. She had no doubt that he was right, and because of that she was going to have to be extremely careful with him.
She picked up her bag to rummage through it for some clothes when she heard Rick call her name.
She found him in the bedroom, holding what looked like a note in his hand.
âWhatâs that? Another note?â she asked as he walked over to her nodding.
âWhere did you find it?â
âOn the bed. Read it.â He told her.
Abigail looked down at the note he handed her.
âSheâs going to come after you.â Rick stated, his voice hard, but she still heard the undertone of fear. âThis was not supposed to happen!â
She put a hand on his arm.
âThis is a good thing Rick.â She told him, âI want to be the target.â
Rick looked at her incredulously.
âNo!â he said shaking his head firmly, âItâs too dangerous!â
Abigail felt her temper rising.
âRick you seem to be forgetting the fact that Iâm a COP. I live a dangerous life. A life I chose. I can take care of myself.â She said, âYou, on the other hand, need me to help keep you safe so just cool it and let me do my job!â
He grabbed her arm just as she was about to turn away from him.
âIâll let you do your job if youâre not the target.â He said softly.
She put her hands on his chest and shoved him back a step. It took some strength since he was bigger than she was, but at least she regained some dignity.
You donât really have a choice,â she told him, âIâm already the target.â
âAbby-â
She shook her head furiously.
âDo you see why we canât get involved? We havenât even slept together and youâre already too damn overprotective!â
âSo youâre saying that I shouldnât care about you at all? That I shouldnât have feelings for you? Well Iâm sorry Abby, but itâs a bit late for that!â he told her stormily.
âRick, you knew when I came on this tour that you were just going to be a case to me, thatâs all.â She said her voice softening as she caught the hurt look in his eyes.
âAnd am I, Abby? Am I just a case to you?â he asked facing her.
She avoided his eyes and couldnât answer.
âI already told you if you could give me one good reason why I should leave you alone, I will. Until then, I wonât leave you alone.â
Abigail met his eyes then.
âWhat if I do have a reason?â she whispered.
He looked taken aback.
âYou donât-â
âWhat if I do?â she pressed.
âThen tell me.â
She looked at his mouth, then realized that she was losing her train of thought, so she looked at his nose instead as she lied.
âWe, uh, thatâs is, Jason and I, weâre involved.â
He moved so swiftly, her mind barely registered it as he took her by the shoulders and gave her a shake.
âWhat! Why the hell are you lying to me?â he asked harshly, âAre you deliberately trying to hurt me?â
âIâm not lying!â she shouted, âWhy do you think weâre on a first name basis?â
âBecause youâre friends!â Rick returned, his grip still firm on her shoulders.
âWeâre more than friends!â she shouted back, âWhy do you think I donât want to sleep with you? I mean, weâre both attracted to each other, I admit it. We even share a hotel room and yet weâve never had sex. Why is that? Because Iâm sleeping with him!â she punctuated every word of her last sentence perfectly and Rick felt as if heâd been slapped in the face.
He let her go roughly and stepped back from her, pushing his hands through his hair before facing her again.
âYou must really not want me to have lied to me like that.â He said softly, stingingly, before walking out the hotel room.
âItâs not about what I want, Rick, but about doing whatâs right.â
