Chapter 11
Truth, Lies and Deception (the boyband series)
Jason had just gotten off the phone with Rick when it rang again.
âHello?â he said into the receiver. He was wide awake now.
âJason. Itâs Christian.â A voice said.
âChristian, donât tell me you guys had something to do with what happened to Rick tonight.â He said firmly.
âIf youâre talking about the falling lights then no we had absolutely nothing to do with that.â Christian assured him, âBut , uh, did you by any chance speak to Rick yet?â
âYes I just came off the phone with him.â He told Christian, then caught the note of worry in Christianâs voice, âWait, donât tell me you guys are responsible for the pillow being tied to Rickâs bed?â
âYes, but-â
âJesus Christian, Rick is scared to death now. He really thinks someone is after him!â he stated his voice hard.
âI know! Iâm sorry! Itâs just that, we did that whole pillow thing BEFORE the concert.â Christian told him, âItâs just coincidence that we happened to use the same rope that was used to hold the lights that fell on him tonight..â
The line was silent then.
âJason? Are you there?â
âIâm right here. I was just thinking.â He said, âYou know Rick thinks that the two are related right?â
âI figured that.â Christian admitted, âThatâs why I called. But I thought the whole lights thing was just an accident. Thatâs what the guy that checked it out said.â
âSo I heard.â
âBut you donât believe that?â Christian asked him.
âI donât know. I wasnât there so I canât say anything.â Jason stated.
âAre you going to tell Rick?â Christian asked then.
âDonât you guys think you should do that? I mean, hasnât this prank gone on long enough. Youâve got him scared and thatâs what you wanted right?â Jason answered.
âYes, but things are just starting to get good.â
âChristian, you guys promised me that this was going to be harmless and now Rick has a shoulder injury!â Jason stated.
âThat wasnât our fault!â Christian protested, âBesides, itâs not that bad. Nothingâs broken.â
Jason shook his head on the other end of the line moving the phone with him.
âLook Christian, the point is, heâs hurt and I know you said itâs not your fault, but I think you guys should stop anyway.â Jason told him, âBesides, Rickâs getting on my back to put someone on this case for him. Heâs really worried and honestly, Iâm getting tired of it. Iâm really busy with work as it is.â
Christian sighed.
âFine. Weâll stop.â He finally said, âGood.â
âWell thanks for all your help then.â Christian said.
âSure. You know any joke to get Rick, Iâll be in on, but this one has gone a bit too far.â Jason told him.
âYeah. I understand. Bye.â
Jason hung up his phone and leaned back against the bed while running his hands through his brown hair.
Something was off here, he could sense it. But he wasnât exactly sure what that something was. He thought there was more going on with Rick than just some prank.
He had no reason to think that Christian was lying about anything he had said so what was it?
Usually his friend had an overactive imagination and in any other circumstances, Jason would have dismissed his fears by saying just that.
He sighed loudly. It was late and he was tired. Heâd be sure to talk to Abigail the next day and get her side of the story. Maybe then he can finally draw a conclusion about what was going on with his friend.
