Chapter 1
Truth, Lies and Deception (the boyband series)
Rick Camden sat on the bed in his hotel room, pushed his hand through his short, blond hair and waited for the police to arrive.
He looked around the room and spotted his empty bags and clothes strewn across the floor. The Black and White Tour had only been going on for a few weeks now and every time they had stopped at a hotel, Rickâs room had been broken into and a note left behind. Rick picked up the note again with two fingers and read its contents. It was just like the others, disgusting.
It wasnât signed, as usual.
He flung the note on the bed just as there was a knock on the door. Rick got up and walked to the door.
âHey Jason. Thanks for coming.â Rick said allowing the guy in and shaking his hand before giving him a slap on the back.
âThatâs Sergeant Kincaid to you buddy.â He said, his green eyes twinkling.
Sergeant Jason Kincaid was one of Rickâs closest friends for the past thirteen years. The twenty-four year old was a native of Florida and Rickâs neighbour and friend for a long time before moving to Los Angeles to be a COP. Every time Rick was in LA, they would try to meet and catch up.
âSometimes I still canât believe that youâre a COP.â Rick told him as they walked into the room.
âYeah well, youâre in a boy band.â Jason teased.
âI prefer musical group.â Rick replied, turning to him.
âAnyway, itâs at times like this when you can be happy that you have a friend who is a COP. The press would have a field day if they found out about this.â Jason said, âIs that the note?â he added then, pointing to the piece of paper on the bed.
âYeah.â Rick said picking it up and handing it to him.
Jason read the note and raised his eyebrows.
âWell, it looks like youâve got yourself an admirer.â He commented.
Rick rolled his eyes.
âNo kidding.â
âIs anything missing, stolen?â Jason asked then.
âNo, I looked through all my things and everything seems to be here.â Rick said motioning to everything around them.
âAnd you told me that this is not the first time that this has happened.â Jason stated.
âNo. Twice before. In a hotel in Florida and then New York.â Rick told him, âNothing was missing then either. But I did get a note exactly like this on both occasions.â He added.
Jason thought about this for a moment.
âRick, couldnât this just be a practical joke that one of the guys are playing on you?â Jason asked, âI mean, where are the rest of fellas? Why arenât they at the hotel?â
âThe guys all decided to go out tonight and I didnât feel like going so I stayed in. If this was a practical joke would they have kept it up this long?â Rick asked his hands on his hips. âBesides, when I asked them about it, they all looked confused and worried as well. I donât think this is a joke Jason.â
âOkay Rick.â Jason said folding his arms and facing him. âWhat exactly do you think this person is going to do to you?â
Rick looked at him, eyes wide.
âI donât know!â he said throwing his arms up, âYouâre asking me to go into the mind of an apparently crazed and obsessed girl!â
Jason actually smiled at him.
âHow do you even know that this is a girl?â he asked Rick.
Rick practically blanched.
âYou're right. I don't.â
âBut itâs true. We donât know. I mean, there is a lot of psychos out there Rick!â he said not containing his laughter one bit.
âWell, Iâm glad youâre enjoying this.â Rick said roughly, âSomeone could be trying to kidnap me or kill me⦠and all you can do is stand there and laugh!â
âLook Rick,âJason said sobering up, âIâm sorry. Iâm just looking at this situation of yours logically thatâs all. I mean, youâre a Bayside Boy, crazed fans are the norm for you. So you got a strange note and your room is a little messy. Nothing is missing and youâre not hurt, so whatâs the problem?â
Rick thought about this for a while.
âI guess youâre right.â He said with a sigh, âMaybe itâs nothing. But..â
âWhat?â Jason asked looking at his serious face.
âI know this sounds weird but I keep getting the feeling that Iâm being watched.â Rick said.
âRick-â
âI know itâs strange because Iâm like on the top floor and stuff but you know there could be hidden cameras.â He said.
Jason laughed.
âI was trying to be serious.â Rick said upset that he wasnât being taken seriously.
âI know, thatâs what makes it so funny.â Jason replied. âLook Rick, if itâs really bothering you that much why donât I come by tomorrow and we can talk about it some more and see if we figure anything out okay?â he asked his friend.
âOkay.âRick returned, walking Jason over to the door, âJason, Iâm really worried about this.â
âI can see that.â Jason said stopping at the door. âLook, youâre tired. Get some rest and weâll talk about it tomorrow.â
âThanks Jas. Goodnight.â Rick said.
âGoodnight.â Jason said walking out the door. When he was walking into the elevator he pulled out his cell phone and dialled a number, when someone answered, he grinned mischievously.
âYou guys are so cruel. That boy is scared to death.â Jason said, he could picture the face on the other end smiling.
âGood. He deserves it.â A voice answered.
