T W E N T Y - E I G H T

A COURT OF SHIFTERS AND SECRETS

FYNN (Kassian's Cousin)

*BLOOD, GORE, AND DEATH MENTIONED IN THIS CHAPTER! READER DISCRETION IS ADVISED!

I slammed open the back door, turning my nose up in the air and taking a deep breath, knowing that the next couple of moments were about to get ugly.

I turned, scowling when I saw the blonde vampy following the gorgeous beauty as she walked through the dark alleyway, humming happily as she listened to her music.

This girl was going to be the death of me...and I didn't even know her name.

The vamps posture tensed and by the way her body was tightly coiled, I knew she was about to attack.

Before she could even take a step further, I acted fast, clamping a hand around her mouth and dragging her back into the shadows.

With a smile, I watched my ebony haired beauty stride happily out of the alleyway and towards the crowed sidewalk, disappearing from my sight.

I have a feeling it won't be the last time we see each other.

With that final though, I threw the snarling vampyre in my grasp into the side of the brick wall, watching in satisfaction as she crumped next to the dirty trash can.

"What the fuck..." she gasped out in pain "What..."

"Hello again" I said, my smile down right predatory as I looked down at her.

Her head snapped up in equal parts shock and anger.

"You" she snapped "What the hell are you? What did you do?"

"Me?" I feigned surprise "Why, I didn't do anything except save you from making a grave mistake."

She stood, dusting herself off in anger "You cost me my dinner."

"I cost you nothing" I said, my own anger rising "In fact I saved your life. One would think you'd be a little more grateful."

"I did nothing wrong" she snapped.

"The fact that you don't realize what you've done is telling enough" I tsked "You're a fledgling, aren't you?"

"I'm a lieutenant, you bastard" she snarled at me "Stronger than you'll ever be."

I smiled "How disappointing your Coven must be if they have such a sad excuse for a lieutenant. I'm surprised they have you training the new generation of fledglings. I wonder how many will die before the week's end? My guess? All of them."

"You prick!" she snarled, rushing towards me at high speed "I'll kill you!"

For someone like me, although she was moving quite fast, I was still faster and swifter than she was thanks to contributions from my parents genes.

A shout of anger had me turning to see the rest of the new vampires swarming around me.

I turned my eyes back to her with a maniacal grin.

"See? Dead before the week's end."

I was done playing now...the fun quickly turning into boredom.

"Looks like you're outnumber now you wolf freak" the blond vamp snarled "And while I couldn't enjoy her blood, I'll gladly bathe in yours."

A few of the young vampires behind her licked their lips, nearly salivating at the thought.

"And what does Wolf blood taste like?"

"I heard it's spicy with a little kick at the end" Someone said, nearly moaning the words out "I wonder if that's true."

"We're about to find out."

"Are you?" I cocked my eyebrow "Well, come on then. If you want a taste of my blood then you're gonna have to work for it."

They attacked all at once.

Or tried to anyways...

Before anyone could blink, I had six hearts in my hands, watching as the six vampyres which the hearts belong to look down at the gaping holes in their chests before dropping dead on the dirty alleyway floor, their bodies immediately turning a sickly grey before dissipating into ash.

I turned back to the blonde, locking eyes with her as I licked a trail of blood that was dripping down the side of my wrist.

I made a face "Bitter, just like I thought you'd batch be."

The blonde took a step back in shock, tripping over her own feet as she tried to get away from me.

"What...what...are you?" she stuttered as she took in both my fangs and different colored eyes, one a brilliant glowing light jade color and the other one completely solid black.

"I'm the best of both worlds" I grinned at her, my fangs lengthening into lethal lengths "Half Wolf, Half Vampyre."

Her eyes widened "Impossible."

"Nothings impossible" I said, gesturing towards myself "As proved by my very existence here, Standing in front of you."

Before I could take a step towards her direction, and the pathetic excuse she calls an afterlife, a dark figure blurred past me.

An awful crunching sound reverberated off the brick walls as her head was separate from her shoulders in one clean swipe.

"Hey!" I whined as the familiar face scowled at me "That was my kill!"

"Are you fucking kidding me?" My cousin hissed, yanking on my arm and practically dragging me towards one of the Pack armored cars "One job. You had one job to do and that was to stay out of trouble! How does someone fuck up that simple task spectacularly?"

"Have you met me?" I muttered.

He shot me a dirty look, slamming open the car door and throwing me inside before mind-linking the rest of the pack to clean up the mess left behind

"What in the ever-loving fuck happened?" he growled, making me internally wince at both his words and tone.

My cousin was a pretty chill dude, outside of his role of being an Heir, and fair Alpha who had a strong sense of morality.

With that being said though, he only cussed out of necessity or when he was having a really really bad day.

He was always lecturing his Pack (me more so than others) about the importance of retaining the Lykos values of honor, duty, and equity.

While others saw him as the powerful (and sometimes frightening) Alpha that he was, I percieved him more as an older brother, someone I could always turn towards for advice or even to hear me bitch about my day.

And as much as I hated to admit it, he saved my ass more than a handful of times throughout our years growing up.

He made it possible for me to join his Pack, something that was unheard of for someone like me, for someone who came from the same parentage I did.

He protected me from bullies when we were younger, those who would do anything in their power to 'rid' me from this earth, and even gave me the opportunity to rise through the Lykos Pack ranks and earn my spot as one of his guardsmen.

He aided my parents in my craving management, when some... particular tastes arose when I turned fourteen.

I owed him everything, even though he expected nothing in return, and while I wasn't sorry I killed those Vampyres tonight, I was sorry that I caused him another added stress.

"They were going to kill an innocent" I explained softly "She...I...she didn't deserve to die such a brutal death."

"This isn't our territory Fynn" Kass said softly, pinching the bridge of his nose "We don't get to decide who lives or dies on this side of the border."

"The Faction Accords of 1801 state that there shall be no killing of any kind or of any creature on neutral ground. That idiotic Vamp was going to break the accord."

"The bar itself was constructed in a way where everything inside of it was considered neutral ground" he said, turning towards me with sympathy in his eyes "Those conniving bastards knew what they were doing when they built that bar. Anything outside of that bar is considered their territory and fair game."

I hissed "What are vamps doing in Wolf territory anyways?"

"The owner of the bar has a vampyre mistress" he said and my eyebrows rose so far, they nearly touched my hairline "Don't give me that look, you know some wolves like to occasionally intermingle with their enemies."

"Not many" I pointed out "No one nowadays from either factions wants to risk the bloodlines getting polluted."

He shrugged.

"It's not like they can pollute much" He said as an afterthought "You know, genetics and all."

My eyebrows raised higher and he laughed.

"Oops" he snickered, that familiarity of my cousin, not my Alpha Heir, coming into play "I forgot."

"Yeah, yeah" I rolled my eyes "Laugh it up at my expense, it's not like I have feelings or anything."

"You make it so easy cousin" he grinned before sighing, the smile so similar to mine that it was no wonder why people used to ask if we were twins "Lazlo's going to be so pissed when he finds out I murdered his Mistress's fledgling."

"You knew who she was?" My eyes widened "And you still killed her?"

"She was attacking one of my Pack members" he shrugged "I don't take to kind to someone harming one of my own, especially someone who shares the same blood as me."

Shit...this sentimental motherfucker was about to make me cry.

I had to blink back the tears, clearing my throat when I asked "What were we doing here anyways?"

"Getting information."

"About what?"

"Something important."

I raised an eyebrow "You're really not going to tell me?"

"Penta business" He shook his head "Sorry baby cousin, but you don't have high enough clearance."

I pouted "How is it that you trust me to read others minds but won't trust me enough with whatever information you got from this Lazlo guy?"

"Speaking of," he redirected the conversation smoothly "What did you hear?"

I sighed "Beyond the usual stuff?"

He nodded.

"Besides Roland plotting to kill me when you're not looking?" I drolled sarcastically "Nothing much on the mind front except for explicit musings and drunken thoughts."

"Nothing else?"

I shook my head.

"And you couldn't read the thoughts from those in the other room with me?"

"No."

"Did you do what I asked?" he said "You know, before your little massacre?"

"I did."

"And?"

"I couldn't hear a thing" I said "Not even from Mateo or Rowan."

"I thought so" he sighed "Lazlo must have had the room reinforced with magic."

"Can he do that?" I asked "First a vamp mistress and then a witch on the payroll?"

"He's already being dealt with" Kassian waved a hand "Lobo will be dealing with him as soon as he's of no use to us any longer."

"And when will he no longer be of use to us?"

"When he gives us what we want."

"And what is it that we want?"

"An adresses."
