DESIDERIUM
On our way to the Alpha Everetts pack, my mind replays the events of the day, a small smile on my lips.
We mostly ate in silence, just enjoying each other's presence, and after we were done, we layed down next to each other, looking at the sky through the window on the roof of the car.
I haven't felt peace like this in a long time. Laying between the both of them, watching the raindrops falling from the sky, just like we did so often when were kids.
There's still so much unsaid, and so much hurt and mistrust, but for once I just wanted to enjoy their presence. The warmth that was emitting from both of them.
I wish we could've more days like this. Without having to worry about everything all the time.
Let the sea wash away my worries, even if for a short time.
"Thank you again," I murmur silently, and Adrian glances at me quickly, his face softening almost immediately.
I know he's nervous about the meeting. Alpha Everett has always worked close with Afrians father, and now Adrian hoped gor the same. He wants to make a good impression.
"You don't have to thank us," he tells me quietly, stealing a glance at the sleeping Levi in the back. To my surprise, he reaches out for my hand, intertwining our fingers softly.
I just look at them for s moment, before squeezing his hand lightly, my gaze turning out the window again.
*
"Levi," Adrian calls out his name after a good twenty minutes, and by the way he's squeezing my hand more tightly, I know we're gonna be here soon.
My guess is proven right, when a wolf starts running along the car, his eyes sharp and calculating, but all he does is follow us until we see the first light in the distance.
Levi wakes up confused at first, but soon realizes what's happening and sits up straight, his face suddenly becoming terribly serious, just like Adrians' does, when they share a quick glance, and probably some encouraging words through the mind-link.
Alpha and Beta mode are on, I guess. Or Luna. Fuck, why do I still not know what position Levi really has in the pack? Did he mention it before?
Suddenly I feel a little out of place.
When I try to pull away my hand from Adrians he doesn't let me, instead giving it a squeeze, as if trying to tell me not to let go.
So I don't, and I keep watching the wolf that runs alongside the car, although now a little further in the woods, with other shapes running with him.
Soon we're in the clearing, and Adrian stops the car in front of a massive house, just as big as our pack house, if not bigger.
And only now I seem to realize that I have seriously no clue what the actual fuck I'm doing here. I don't know how to do... pack stuff.
I'm not even in a pack!
A snort almost escapes me at the thought, but I keep it in, waiting for Adrian and Levi to move.
When Levi is the first one to get out of the car, I follow him soon after giving Adrian one more reassuring squeeze.
Soon Adrian gets out of the car as well, and I walk up to them rather awkwardly, but when they hear me approach, they almost immediately part, to make place for me in the middle of them.
I look at the both of them rather surprised, but their gazes are fixed onto the person that steps up in front of us.
"Alpha Adrian, Beta Levi... and Luna Rafael, if I'm right?" said person asks, and I almost choke on my own spit, the second his words register in my head.
"Oh, no. No, no, no. I'm packless, actually. Lone wolf, in the flash," I stammer, and shrink back a little when I meet the guys stare for the first time. Moon goddess, he's intimidating.
But I'm not the only one to flinch a little, he does too, even if barely, and he catches himself almsot immediately.
What was that?
He doesn't exactly seem like the type to be surprised... by anything, really.
"Uh, sorry, I'm Rafael," I try to safe myself further embarrassment, sticking out my hand for him to shake, especially since I felt both my mates tensing up beside me.
I'm already messing this up for them, am I not?
The mans eyes haven't left my face for a second, and he doesn't shake my hand either, so I let it sink slowly.
My wolf has gone awfully quiet too, and I feel really really out of place.
"Follow me," he mutters suddenly, turning around abruptly.
I'm sorry, I immediately mouth to Levi, too embarrassed to even look at Adrian, but I don't even need to, because he takes my hand in his, giving it a soft squeeze.
When I look at him, there's a remorseful look on his face, but all I do is squeeze his hand back lightly, not wanting to cause a scene again.
We follow the man, by the big ass house and the people staring, onto a more secluded place, where he walks up the steps to a house fully made of wood.
It's beautiful.
"Just a moment," he excuses himself, walking inside the door, and the three of us are left standings awkwardly before the house.
"I'm sorry," I tell them almost out of habit, because I hope I didn't ruin their chances to get the help they needed.
It's slowly getting darker, the sky turning into a darker blue each passing moment.
"You apologize to much."
"Especially since you have nothing to apologize for," Levi adds quietly, and before we can say anything more, the man appears at the door again.
Should I know his name? Probably, right?
"Come with me," he tells us, and so we follow him into the house, my mind foggy for some reason, and my wolf still unresponsive to all my efforts of getting to him.
A quiet, frustrated sigh escapes my lips, before my eyes wander to the green door we're stood in front.
The man looks back at us for a second, locking eyes with me, and I gulp, because something in his eyes just reminds me of something.
"Alpha Everett," the Beta greets his Alpha formally, and I gulp, not daring to look up at the Alpha who's aura is stronger than anyones I have met before.
Adrian and Levi are kinda standing in front of me, as if creating a barrier between me and the man, who's hand they are shaking now, exchanging formalities.
When the room falls silent, I know it's my cue to introduce myself, so I turn my gaze away from the window I've been staring out off, and instead meet the eyes of the notorious Alpha Everett.
Our eyes lock, and for the second time today, I feel like my mind is playing tricks on me, because it feels like I know those eyes.
What unsettles me is the way his eyes almost immediately darken, the longer he looks at me, the more menacing they look.
"Alpha Everett, I'm-"
"Get out," I get interrupted by his chilling voice, almost growling at me.
"Alpha Everett-" Adrian immediately tries to step in, but his gaze is fixed only on me, so piercing and cold, I almost shudder.
"I said get out," he repeats himself, turning away from the three of us, and I start feeling cold all over again.
Fuck, what's happening?
The Beta pushes us out of the house, Adrian and Levi try to reason with him, and I make my decision before any of them can really react.
"Fuck this," I grumble, and storm back into the house, the Beta not having enough time to react, to stop me from bursting into the room with the... familiar feeling.
Just when I'm about to say something, I halt in my steps, my heart dropping to my stomach, when I catch a glimpse of the picture frame Alpha Everett is currently looking at.
Because the woman on the picture is the same one that appeared in my last few dreams, the same dreams where the woman is crying and screaming, and looking at me through broken eyes.
Now that woman is smiling at whoever took the picture, with a baby in her arms, looking as beautiful and alive as ever.
The same woman that I believe is my mother.
uh oh. plot twist.
exams are finally over, so I hope I'll be
able to update more frequently.
