Chapter 14

Reincarnated as the Heroine's Brother

Hello, I will be picking up RAHB for now. I hope my writing is up to standard and good enough.

The first thirteen chapters were written by Lost_Panda01

Now let's start with the story.

Magic was, above all else, founded to be a weapon. Those with magic, however, were incredibly rare and as such, there were no laws in place to stop magic users from using magic.

There were rules in the magic school, however, that did not mean that the students had to follow them when out of school.

Lily, with all the grace and intelligence of an arrogant predator, knew this much. She also knew that she had to delve into muddy waters for just a bit to execute his plan of hers.

It was almost stupidly easy.

There were plenty of perverts with weird fetishes anywhere and how she managed to avoid them—or make them avoid touching her—was simple. Show them her magic.

Magic users were rare and valued by the kingdom. If any one of them were touched then it will be a big offense, much less one with magic thought lost to time.

What Lily didn't know, was that the walls have ears and eyes.

Rey didn't need to know that his sister who he had cherished and loved for years in end was out to ruin him. He truly didn't need to know that, it would break his heart.

This is why Chris wouldn't let him know. Keep Rey untainted and ignorant of these things, this was why he had assigned people to watch Lily's movements and sure enough.

She had gone and bought that poison.

Rey didn't have mana, he had never studied magic. It would kill him the moment he drank it! Lily, that thing who was Rey's sister, was an utter idiot. A fortunate idiot.

A fortunate idiot, because Chris couldn't do anything to her. The king would not be very happy if anything were to happen to a light magic user.

It was only because of this fact that Chris held back on doing anything.

Leo has long found her true colors, disgusting, he had stated after finding out the truth and throwing away his rose-tinted glasses.

Lily was fortunate. True, she had light magic. Nevertheless, she was an idiot.

Showing it off so blatantly, rumors would spread. It was also about magic, so of course the rumors would spread to other kingdoms. By then the rumors would be so distorted that the truth was unknown.

The relationships between kingdoms have been very tense ever since the Clara Kingdom vanished. Lily doing this was pulling the hairline trigger. The other kingdoms would think that the Aqua Kingdom had been the one to do something to make the Clara Kingdom vanish and the fear would be enough to set off a war.

Lily, for all that she had Light magic, was not worth a worldwide war.

The current king, Chris' father, would give up on her no matter what by then.

But this plan was too unreliable.

It would take a lot of time and by then, Rey would be dead. Chris would not have that.

"Big brother! Hello!" Leo, who has just barged into Chris' room without any warning, greeted Chris who nodded back. "What's got you so tense? Your masked princess about to die or something?" Leo teased him, but got it on the spot.

Leo's grin faded when Chris didn't reject the fact. "Wait, sister-in-law's in danger?!"

As much as Chris liked the feeling of Leo calling Rey "sister-in-law" he couldn't help but frown, raising his blue orbs to look at Leo's green ones. "Is it not because of your paramour?"

Leo frowned at that. "Aren't they siblings? And don't call her that!"

Chris snorted, a derisive look on his face as he faced his little brother. Leo suddenly realized that these kinds of things were normal, in noble and royal families, that is. The ones they were talking about were citizens though!

"Your former-paramour will start a war soon, tell father of her true nature soon so you can tell him "I told you so" when she does." Chris informed Leo who raised an eyebrow. Grinning, he cheered. "Oh? Nice. Then we can show them my kickass brother!"

Chris kneaded his temple. Leo, this baby brother was going to be the death of him.

True, he was the strongest in his class, but that was because it was a basic requirement. He was the crown prince, if he was even slightly average then people will start to talk.

"One," Chris called out, very deliberately ignoring Leo's chattering about how cool his big brother was, "the most recent report on Young Miss Lovell."

A man fully covered in black dropped in from the roof, shocking a squeak out of Leo and landing silently. One bowed to Chris at the waist and told him, "The target has found the candidates for her plan and is currently going back to her house to invite Young Sir Lovell out."

Chris cursed and ran out of the room, grabbing a jacket from the hanger and shouted an order. "Two and Five are to stall her, One, follow me. Three, Four, take care of the idiot there."

"Oi! I'm not an idiot!" Leo shouted at him, following Chris.

Chatter filled the main room of the building, the scent of freshly baked goods wafting through and outside, luring people in.

Rey balanced two trays on his hands, carefully putting the baked treats on display in the glass counter. He peered a look at the time, 1:30 PM. That was good, the lunch rush should be finished in about fifteen minutes then.

Rey readjusted the mask on his face and rushed to the counter, letting his mother stop for a short rest. More customers had come in here after Lily had gotten admitted to Magia Academy, probably curious about the humble bakery a student there had come from.

While it was good for their finance, it definitely lessened the time they got to rest.

His parents had been contemplating on hiring an employee or two to help, but they didn't really know how to make the legal contract and all that stuff. So Rey—being the filial son he is—decided to go to the library to read about this world's laws and everything.

Well, he would have gone after the lunch rush was over, but Chris had come over to visit him—having known the address after walking him home. He had visited several times after their date and Rey couldn't quite keep down the fluttery feeling in his stomach whenever he did.

He smiled at the other and leaned on the counter, "What would you like today?"

Chris looked at Rey with a gentle smile and replied, "I was looking to bring you on—out around town again." He nearly bit his tongue to prevent himself from saying "on a date". Rey opened his mouth to answer—

"Big brother...!" Someone with a strong resemblance to Chris ran into the shop, out of breath. Rey stopped to look at him for a moment before asking Chris, "your brother?"

Chris coughed behind his hand and darted his eyes between the disheveled mess of the second prince of the Aqua kingdom and the elegant soon-to-be king consort of Aqua kingdom—not that he knows but—before confirming, "Yes. This is my little brother, Leo. Leo, Rey."

Leo looked up with a mischievous grin, "Nice to finally meet you, sister-in-law!"

Rey and Chris spluttered in sync.

It was such a good thing that lunch rush was over, or else the people that came to look at the infamous beauty of the town would be indignant and ready to fight Chris and Leo to death.

"So... will you go with me or not?" Chris asked with warm cheeks.

Rey smiles again and told him, "I would love to."

I will try my best to make all chapters at least 1000 words each.

Next chapter will be the second date, with a tagalong trying his best to score a good impression on his sister-in-law.
