Chapter 56

Chapter 53: "Everyone needs to go to one at least once in their lives!"

Switching to brothers

So there I was, fourteen with a red cup filled with alcohol, staring tear-eyed at one person while there were twenty other staring at me.

Let me back up.

It was late and after all the competitions-and by some miracle we won them all- and I was putting on foundation to cover what wasn't there. I was alone in the cabin. I liked it though, peaceful and quiet. It was totally different from my house whereas there would be at least one twin screaming.

I was I interrupted by a door slamming open. "Lidia guess what?" Sophia squealed as she hopped on my bed.

I sighed and put down my compact mirror. "What?"

"There's a party! In the woods of course. Totally secret, you can't tell anyone!" She squealed.

I nodded slowly. I'm sure the whole camp knows, I'm also sure the staff knows too. They just don't care enough to intervene. If I'm being honest, I wouldn't either if I got payed 27,000 dollars a year to teach spoiled, rich brats.

"Okay, so what do you want me to do exactly?" I asked slowly. If she says go to the party I swea-

"Go to the party with me! Or just walk with me to the woods!" She smiled at me.

I grabbed ahold of her hands, "Sophia, I'm a very introverted person. I would rather stay locked in a tower for sixteen years than willingly go to a party." Unless it's with Ian. I would go anywhere with him.

"Oh come on! It'll be fun!" Just then Cammi came in and I took in her outfit. A gray sweater crop top with white ripped jeans and white Air forces.

"Sophia, aren't you coming?" She asked. I decided to take in Sophia's outfit. She had on a black pencil skirt with a white top.

"Hold on," she hissed and faced me again with a smile, "come with me. I promise it'll be fun. Plus, everyone needs to go to at least one party in their life, don't you think?"

I thought about it. She is right. But we're also barely teens. I'm fourteen and she's fifteen. All of us are fourteen or fifteen. I do need to try to be more social. But what will my brothers think if they learned I went to a party? But, Jesse and James have gotten drunk plenty of times and they're underaged. And I won't even be drinking!

"Lidia, quit being such a buzz kill! There won't even be alcohol if you're worried about that." She pressed.

I finally gave in and said "Well okay. But I won't be drinking."

"Of course not! Now, all we need is your makeup and outfit!" She grinned.

"I have my makeup covered. You go and find me an outfit." I said.

"Okay!" She bounced off my bed and dug through my clothes.

I did my makeup in record time, twenty minutes. That's the best anyone in the world could've done. I should get a Guinness World Record for it.

I walked out of the bathroom and saw Cammi on her bed, looking through Instagram. Sophia was excitedly waiting outside the door and showed me what she had in mind.

It was a oversized sweater vest with checkered pastel colors over a white shirt and white jeans. "I think this suits you perfectly." She said.

I did my makeup a bit light so that it would match with any outfit she'd given me. I put it on, and looked at myself in the mirror. I finger-combed my hair. If only Carl could see me now.

"Are you guys finally ready to go?" Cammi said while still staring at her phone.

"Yep!" Sophia jumped.

"I hope so." I mumbled.

Cammi left immediately, but Sophia waited for me to get my phone. I stood up and smiled at her. "Okay, I think I'm ready. Let's go."

We walked behind all the cabins to get to the woods. I don't know why though, the chaperones most likely know already. And Sophia's not even good at sneaking. Her shoes crunched on literally every single leaf.

We finally got to a path that would 'lead' us to the party. The silence wasn't awkward but it wasn't comforting either. "So, why did you want me to walk with you to the party?" I said.

She smiled a cheeky little smile. "Oh no reason. I just thought you could use a friend." She said.

When she said that I tensed up a little. "I do have a friend."

Her eyes widened a little bit. "Well of course you do! All Whites have so many friends. We should be friends. You know what? We are friends!"

I smiled confusedly. Where in the world is the conversation going? "I wouldn't say all Whites have friends. Luke doesn't really have friends. Well he doesn't talk either so I guess that plays into it."

"Since we're friends, when should I come over?" She asked.

I could hear party noises as we walked further and further into the woods. Why did I agree to this? "What do you mean?"

She looked at me like I was dumb. "We're friends. Friends are supposed to hang out with each other. Since we are friends, when should we hang out? What days can I come over?"

We were now passing a tree that represented the entrance to the party. "Well I would have to ask my brother that. I-you-you can't just invite yourself over." I told her. This is starting to feel like we're not friends. In fact, it's starting to feel like she's using me.

"But we're friends! Friends make each other popular!" She said loudly. Her eyes widened at her last sentence.

I stood there and finally realized the girl standing in front of me. She didn't want to be my friend. She wanted to be popular. She didn't care about my feelings. She cared about only herself.

"You don't want to be friends with me. That's why you brought me here. To this party. With you. You thought that people seeing you with a White sibling would make you popular. Well guess what? I'm not even popular! You wanted to use me to get to my brothers. I should've known." I spit out. No one truly wants to be my friend. Except Audrey of course. But, it makes me wonder, does she want something from me too?

"I-I that's not what I said and you know it!" She choked out.

I my gaze was steel as I glared at her. "We are not friends."

Tears were starting to form in her eyes. "Why-why not? I've been nothing but nice to you!"

"Because you just want the attention of my brothers. I'm guessing you hooked up with one, they told you how special you were, and stupidly enough you believed them. You are nothing to them. And you never will be. See you later Sophia." I coldly stated. I turned away to go somewhere else. Somewhere that's not by her.

As soon as my foot came down and laid it's second step she spoke. She stuttered when she spoke. Her voice was even squeakier than before. "What am I to you?"

I didn't turn around as I said something totally out of character. "Nothing."

I walked away. I don't know what my mind was thinking when it told my legs to carry me deeper into the party.

Why did I say that? I didn't have to be so rude. But you are rude. And useless. No one actually loves you. Carl's voice echoed in my mind. It's been so long since I've heard his voice. So long since I've had that bad of a negative thought. I was doing so good. This night is turning out to be a disaster.

"Hey, you look like you could use a drink." A random kid said as he appeared in front of me. I was so caught up in my thoughts that I didn't even notice him walk up to me.

I looked at his outstretched arm, holding the cup. Then I looked at his face. I told myself I wouldn't, but by the looks of it, this night had turned out to be pretty crappy.

"Sure, thanks." I said and grabbed it. I took a sip of it and cringed. I've never had any sort of alcoholic drink before.

I walked around the party, taking a few sips every so often. I found where the kids were dancing. It looked so unnatural and so uncomfortable. I continued to stare at them when I felt a tug on my arm.

I immediately snapped my head. I saw Audrey in all her black clothes glory standing there. Her eyes widened when she saw what I was holding. "Lidia White! What are you doing! You-you shouldn't be here! All of us shouldn't be here!"

Realization hit me. What am I doing here? "Oh my god. What am I doing here? Audrey I-" my eyes began to well up with tears when she pulled me in.

"It's okay. I won't tell your brothers. Just come back with me and you'll be fine. Okay?" She nodded.

I nodded back and sniffed. I still had that stupid red cup in hand as we walked out of the party. Out of nowhere a hand shot out and spun me around. "What in the he-" I was cut short by a stinging sensation of my left cheek.

Audrey must've felt my hand fall out of hers because when she looked back a two pairs of hands grabbed her. "What the fuck!" She said loudly.

"Shut it!" Lexi snapped.

I was still in shock of the slap. I lazily looked back. Lexi was standing in front of me with a red eyed Sophia standing behind her. Two other people that I didn't know were holding Audrey back.

"What? What's going on?" I asked. Why did she slap me? Why's Audrey being held back?

"You, you filthy little bitch!" Lexi hissed.

I narrowed my eyes at her. "What are you talking about?"

"You! And your siblings! You always act like you're the best and everyone is so far beneath you!" She screamed. Her words were like venom striking me.

"Lidia she's just trying to get under your skin!" Audrey said. It seemed like she was far away though. I looked around in a daze. A few more bystanders were slowly creeping up and listening.

"What did you say about my brothers?" My voice didn't even make the tiniest of waver when it pierced the chilly night.

"You heard me! You're just like them, spoiled, arrogant, little bastards that think they can do whatever they want because you have money." She spat.

"What did I tell you when we first met?" I glared at her. More kids had come around to watch but they all blurred as I focused on Lexi. Every noise drowned out except the beating of my own heart.

"That people assume things about you. But from what I've gathered so far? I'm sure my assumptions are correct." She sneered.

"I told you not to make fun of my brothers." I answered my own question.

"Lidia stop!" Audrey yelled in the background. It barely registered.

Lexi walked closer. She was so close that her lips were right beside my ear, whispering something I thought no one would ever find out about.

"What would Carl do to you if he ever found out you drank."

Now you know what built up to my terror and pain, let's see what this bitch can do.

She saw as I tensed up. Her smirk was like ice water pouring all over me. "So I was right?"

"You don't know what your talking about."

"Oh but I'm afraid I do."

"I-"

"You, Lidia White, are a nobody. You came from a nobody family. That's why your stepfather killed your mom. Isn't it?" Collective gasps were heard from the crowd. You could hear the smirk in her voice.

Every single word hit me like a brick wall. The worst part about it, was that she was right. I am a nobody. I'm a girl who thought she could be something, and yet when I try all I do is fail.

"Stop it."

"It must be hard, being lied to your whole life-"

"Stop it."

"You always try to hard to impress your brothers and yet when you do they just brush it off don't they?"

"Stop it."

"Face it Lidia, you're all bark and no bite. You will never, ever be able to amount to your brothers. Dear Ian doesn't even like you! No one will ever love you-"

"I said stop it!" I screamed and threw my drink at her. But I didn't stop there, no I swung. As my fist collided with her cheek and her head tilted to the side I grabbed her hair and held her head as I punched it.

You will never be anything.

No one will ever love you.

You are only good for one thing, and even that your not even good at.

Useless.

In a blink I was on the ground, being held down by five people. I was thrashing and twisting my body as I tried to get up.

"Lidia stop!" My actions slowed down when I heard the desperate plea of my best friend. "Lids please just stop." I stopped completely and looked at my teary eyed best friend.

I looked around as much as I could and gasped. "What did I do?"

"Lidia! Oh Lids! Lidia it's okay. It's okay guys, she's fine." The people holding me down reluctantly lifted their hands off my arms and legs.

Audrey was on her knees and cradling my head as I sobbed. "I didn't mean to! I-I-how? Audrey the only person I've told is you!"

"I know, I know. Lidia, some people just venture down rabbit hole and no matter how hard and how good you hide it, someone will always find out." She comforted.

"Can you help me stand up?" I asked, exhausted from beating the shit out of Lexi.

She smiled. "Of course. Here you go. There! You're all better!" She said as though she was a mother helping her four year old daughter get up after scraping a knee.

My shoulders were hunched as my puffy eyes scanned my surroundings. Horror and fear shown brightly on everyone's face. A few people were trying to tend to Lexi while the others just stared at me in fear. I finally saw Lexi's once beautiful face. It was covered in blood. Her once carefully done makeup was in a ruin as mascara mixed with blood.

"What have I done?" I uttered.

I feel so bad without posting. I thought this chapter would've been way longer than 2400 words but I guess not. Happy summer break to everyone! I hoped you liked it and don't forget to vote, comment, and obviously like :)
