Chapter 23: Dinner Interrogation
Switching to brothers
We were halfway to the White mansion in Sasha's blue Jeep when she asked the thing I wish she didn't ask.
"Sooo. Who was the kid you were talking to?"
I looked at her and said "Who? Me? Are you serious right now?"
She wiggled her eyebrows. "I mean he was pretty cute." She said.
I scoffed. "What he was, was a loser. He was just downright mean.", I looked over at her and saw her face which was contorted into one of a are you sure? look. I stared at her, "Sasha, you don't believe I was flirting with him did you?", Her face told me my answer. I gasped, "Sasha you believed I was flirting with him didn't you! The audacity! I was telling him how he shouldn't smoke when there's little kids around and he started to argue with me! I hate him honestly. But guess what? Guess who got the final say? Hm? Me! That's who!"
She looked at me and laughed. Not a little chuckle but a full on belly deep laugh. She laughed so hard she started to cry. "Oh my, the Whites and their final say. I guess it must run in the family."
I looked at her and tried to think of anything to say but I couldn't so I just turned around and looked out my window and began to count people.
We got home and I did what any normal kid would do.
I took a nap.
Luke's POV:
I rubbed my forehead as I sat in my chair. Stupid paperwork. I would much rather be at home and taking a nap than doing this shit. I gently shook my head and signed my name on a paper.
I do not know which is harder, being a CEO of a popular business or being the leader of the American Mafia. Safe to say I do not prefer either one.
This past weekend Lidia has been very, very sick. Sasha came and told me that she wasn't feeling better today either but I know everything that happens in my house. I knew that she was sad she missed a whole weekend and had to be healthy the day she comes back for school so I didn't question it.
I also know she went to the park. Let me
explain: every park we build or donate money to, we put cameras there. For safety reasons among other things. Very helpful if one of your siblings is going through a rebellious phase.
As any normal person who's about a month ahead on his paperwork, I watched her. Not in a creepy way of course but in a way that tells 'I'm bored. Entertain me.'. I saw her talking to a-I physically, but silently gagged-Â a boy!
I'm not one to do this. Hell, I have four brothers. This girl is really changing me. So as any normal brother I did what most would do:
I googled him.
Hm. Donavon Sylio. He looks like, oh what does Lidia call it? Emo? Yeah he looks like that. I cannot believe my little sister would socialize with him. Although she has not been here long I could tell we were rubbing off on here.
I continued to watch the video and as I predicted, she had the last word. I do not expect anything less from her.
She reminds me of a mixture between all of us. She has Jesse's silliness and James's hotheadedness. Caden's simple love for family. Sasha though not blood related still has planted a piece of her soul into Lidia. Curly has Zack's tenderness although scary when he wants to be.
And well she has me in her too. She has my observation skills. My way to get the things we want. I'm guessing she's saving her lying skills-not because she's bad but because she doesn't want us to know how good she is.
I stopped the video and got back to work much to my dismay.
Lidia's POV:
I woke up and stretched. Nothing like sleeping on a couch. I just laid there and looked at the ceiling. Not going to lie it's pretty calming. Just laying there. Not having a care in the world.
Oh shit.
I have homework.
Shit.
I bolted off the couch and leaped up the stairs to get to my bag. I reached my room and ransacked my backpack. I kept looking and looking and yet, saw nothing of importance.
"Shit, shit, shit, SHIT!" I hiss.
A knock on my door appears and a head peaks out from it. "Excuse me. Lids, did I just hear you cuss?" Jesse grilled sarcastically.
My face was one of shock. "Uh, uh um may-maybe?" I said quietly.
Jesse threw his head back laughing. "Oh I'm just playing with you little sis. Don't worry," he winked, "I won't tell him if you tell me why."
I smiled at that. Luke probably already knows but hey, it's the thought that counts right?
"So," he leaned against my bedroom doorframe, "why'd you cuss? And don't say because everyone says one once in a while." He said, trying to make a stern-looking face. He failed miserably.
"I forgot a homework paper at school." I said with my head hung in shame.
He did a totally Jesse thing and laughed. "Oh, oh my god, I- I really thought it was bad." He said, gasping for air.
I shook my head and leaned against my wall. "Jesse, this is serious. I'm going to get in trouble."
He smiled. "See ya little sis. Hope you have fun stressing over a homework assignment!" He called out.
I groaned and checked the time; 2:32 p.m.
Isn't he and James supposed to be in school right now? My eyebrows scrunch together in confusion while I try to figure out what was happening. I gently shook my head, giving up.
I strolled to my bathroom, deciding to check up on my makeup. I gazed at myself in the mirror. Hm. How about I change it up a bit? I washed my face with a cloth and saw the same scars that were there when I first got here. Not bruises, scars.
Permanent.
Scars.
I put of my foundation, etc and began to do the eyeshadow. I concluded I would do a light green fading into one of grass in the spring. I put on some winged eyeliner and some mascara. Turned out pretty good.
I wanted to show off my work. The best way I could do that was go outside and hope someone's out there so I can show it to them. My short legs strode towards the back door. I looked out side and saw my tree. I smiled. I calmly walked over to it and began to climb. The branches were pretty thick so I decided to climb to the highest one.
I looked down and saw the yard before me. Such pretty flowers. My head swerved to the left and I saw Ian- the hot god- working out. My eyes bulged and I looked to my right. I saw some men practicing boxing. Hm. That's interesting.
I continued to be nosy and see what everyone was doing until I heard my name called. I glanced down and saw Zack looking for me. "Lidia!" I climbed down and snuck up to him.
"Boo!" I scared.
He jumped while I laughed. He glanced down at me. "Excuse you Chica, what do you think you're doing?" He tried to be stern but his face said otherwise.
I smiled a real smile and laughed while he began to tickle me. I then began to die laughing. "Oh-okay. I-I'll be good. Jus-just stop ." I giggled.
I gazed up and saw his smiling face. He giggled along with me and took my hand. "Okay enough giggles. It's dinner time."
What? Was I really outside for that long? Wow, who would've thought? Lidia White, having the time pass by while having fun. Never would I thought this could be possible.
I bopped up and down and sat at my usual spot at the dinner table. As usual, the boys begin to talk about boring stuff. Turns out the cook made Sasha's favorite dish so she was too busy stuffing her face with Butter Noodles. I was all alone, just like I always am.
I was thinking about school and the emo boy and his friends vandalizing the school until I couldn't bear it anymore. "Do you guys know why there were some boys vandalizing our school?" I asked to no one in particular.
Zack spit out his food and James and Caden's face both held clenched teeth almost at the exact same time. Jesse started to choke on his noodles and Sasha took a break from her food and looked up. Manny's face was shocked and Ian's had a a scornful look to it. Luke's face held one of indifference.
"W-what did you say?" Jesse said after James patted his back.
"Well I was just asking who those kids wer-"
"No Lidia, stop it right there. Why do you want to know?" Caden snapped.
"W-well I mean I just saw them vandalizing the school and I wonder wh-"
"Lidia you stay away from those kids. They bring nothing but trouble." Manny spit.
My face held instant regret. "I didn't talk to them I just saw them vandalizing the school."
James sneered "Next time you see them you come tell us. Don't go near them okay?"
I heard Ian say "Those bitches-" but Luke gave him a look and he shut up.
I looked to Sasha to see if she would come in a save me but to no avail she didn't. My eyes wandered to Luke but he just looked at me.
Finally after a couple of minutes Zack had enough and yelled "Enough everyone! I do believe our sister asked a question!"He nodded to me.
Jesse gained his composure spoke up and said "Those kids are from our rival school. Our schools have always been after each other. Technically our great-great-great-grandfather opened the school and the man always had a thing for our grandfather after he stole his girlfriend from him." Jesse snickered.
Caden rolled his eyes. "The kids from their school hate the kids at this school and vice versa. They always try to be better than us. Ultimately Lidia, you need to stay away from those pompous pricks."
"That's so stupid. Such petty rivalry still happens?" I inquired.
Sasha nodded her head. Manny just had a tint of hatred to his face. Jesse was still angry but was snickering. Zack's was shaking his head in disgust. Sasha still was star struck and Ian and Caden were blowing steam through their ears. James looked like he was about to explode.
Luke faces was working me out.
The man in charge finally spoke and all he said was "It's about that Donavon kid, isn't it?"
.....
Cliffhanger! I actually had really bad writer's block on this so that's why it took a long time to post. I hope everyone is having a great day! Like always I hope you like it and don't forget to vote, comment and obviously like :)
