Part 31 | Savour while it lasts

NAIRA

" Hey there Beautiful! You ready? " Rudy knocked at my door.

" Yeah, just a minute. " I flipped my curled hair and glanced at my reflection for one last time.

Today is a big day. For 2 reasons.

One, the day started with the Grand Opening of Resort.

Two, Kartik is getting the Young Entrepreneur of the year Award tonight.

" Woah! You look gorgeous, Princess. I won't mind If you ditch my brother and be my date for tonight. " Rudy winked at me.

I had a ' you- are- impossible' look on my face. " Do you have any plan of getting yourself a girl or you are going to spend your days flirting with me. "

" I am fine with both but Guess I like the second idea more." I chuckled.

" I would love to see you have a girlfriend. " We walked down the stairs.

" All in good time, beautiful. " He held the car door open for me.

The red carpet led into a huge lavishly decorated Party hall, all set to host the award show.

The hall was flourished with audience from various companies and business sectors. There were many entrepreneurs, elite businessman and businesswoman, press and reporters.

TITANIUM awards is considered one among the prestigious business award. They say that getting one such award is a dream for every entrepreneur.

Knowing that Kartik has won one makes me the happiest person on the land. It's a big achievement for his 5 years project.

Kartik was having a conversation with some couple. When he saw me, he excused himself and walked up to us.

Damn, Is it only me or is he too hot to handle tonight!

" Hi sweetheart. " He slid his arm around my waist and bent slightly to peck my cheeks.

I giggled, his stubble creating a tickling sensation on my skin.

" Bro, it's your first award after marriage. " Arjun who was also getting an award tonight appeared along with Aditi.

She hugged me excited and the reason I know, she had officially met her super chill in laws.

Early this morning at the Inauguration event of Resort, Arjun introduced me to his parents who had flew down to the country after about a year.

His parents accepted Aditi with so much warmth that it didn't look like they met for the first time, only this morning. Ofcourse they have talked over phone but she seemed to connect with them instantly. They indeed liked her a lot for their playboy son had finally choose to settle.

" So both of you, I guess No regular stuffs this time. " Rudy blurted to earn a sharp glare from them.

" What regular stuffs? " I questioned curiously.

" Oh, that's nothing. " Arjun tried to divert the question.

" I want to know. What is it? " Aditi silenced her fiance.

" The show sponsors conduct a post award ceremony every year. It's quite popular. " Rudy chuckled.

" That's an usual thing. " Aditi commented.

" A strip club corner isn't one. "

" What !! " We yelled in unison.

" Now that you guys are here, why will we go! Right Kartik. " Arjun was quick to respond.

" Oh! If we weren't here, you wouldn't mind attending it. " Aditi crossed her arms.

" What! No no, of course Not, honey. I love you ! " Arjun raised his hands in surrender.

" And why are you silent? " His lips just curved into a naughty smile.

" Because you know the answer. My temptress is right beside me." In a husky tone, he whispered the second sentence in my ear.

Amused by his answer, I bit my inner cheeks trying hard not to blush.

keep a straight face, Naira.

He chuckled and with my elbows I poked the side of his abdomen.

" Fine Fine guys settle down, the event is about to start. " Aditi pointed as the host took the center stage.

After the introductory speech, the winners were announced and their awards bestowed to them, one by one.

The final award of the night was announced.

I kept looking at Kartik intently with a soft smile tugging my lips as he ascended the stage and received his award. The sound of applause made my heart swell in pride and joy for my man.

After delivering his speech, he stepped down the stage to be instantly surrounded by the paparazzi.

He tried to excuse himself impatiently to reach me, but they were overwhelming. Snaps were clicked and Questions were thrown at him but he wasn't paying attention for he had his gaze fixed on me. I chuckled at his irritated expression.

He pushed himself through the crowd and took me into a long hug.

" Congratulations baby, you deserve this! " I said with glistening eyes.

He broke the hug and his smile slightly dropped, " hey, what's wrong? " he asked in a small voice.

I chuckled pressing the wet corners of my eyes, " Guess the wife in me tears up when she becomes happy. "

He just stared at me for a minute before taking my hands in his and placed a kiss on the back of my left palm " I love you. "

" Me too. "

Our snaps were clicked, smiling he brought his hand over my waist and I leaned closer placing my hand on his chest.

While Kartik and Arjun were giving interviews, Rudra went out to attend a call.

" Naira, I'll just use the washroom." Aditi informed and left.

I was feeling thirsty, hence deciding to fetch something I made my way to the drinks corner on the same floor but it was not to my liking.

Too noisy and crowded.

So Instead I went to the one in the upper deck of the hall.

Finally a spot with few humans!

" One Mojito please. " I ordered and sat on the bar stool.

" Right away ma'am. "

In about a couple of minutes my drink was served.

" Naira Basu ! " Someone called out my name.

I turned towards the source and was taken aback.

I went downstairs to join my people, only to find Kartik restless, so was Arjun and Rudy but not as bad as Kartik.

" what's going on here? " I grabbed their attention.

" See, I told you. She is just here, you boys panicked for nothing. Now, Let a girl drink in peace!! " Aditi picked up a glass from a tray of drinks the waiter was carrying around.

" Naira, Where were you? " Kartik questioned.

" I went to the drinks corner in the upper deck. And surprisingly I met my college friend. Aditi, you remember Harish? "

" The douche ! Yeah. " She rolled her eyes.

" She used to fight with him all the time, Nevermind. So We were just catching up." I explained.

" What happened? You look.... restless? " I wiped his forehead with a tissue.

" No, Nothing. I was just- I couldn't find you so. "

" Kartik, sometimes you are impossible. I was away for what, like 30 mins. And here you are freaking out like you are never going to see me again. " I causally said but I did notice his body go stiff for a second.

" I'll get the car, we should leave now. It's late. " Rudy suggested.

The boys went ahead of us to the parking lot.

" Don't you think they are behaving kinda weird today. " I asked Aditi as we walked Outside.

Aditi giggled, " Men are always weird! "

I couldn't help but laugh listening to my lightly intoxicated bestie.

As I got rid of my ornaments Kartik entered the room, his blazer taken off and his tie loosened. I could see his intent gaze fixed on me through the mirror, I smiled at him.

" Did I mention how beautiful you look today? " He spoke looking at my reflection.

I tucked my hair into a messy bun, " Well I don't remember hearing it. " Upon my answer, His lips curved into a mischievous grin.

" My bad. " I felt his hand sliding down my waist making my frame collide on his firm chest.

He removed the clutch clip causing my length of hair to descend loose to the sides of my shoulder.

" I could look at you the whole night without a blink and still won't get enough of you. " He pressed his cheeks against mine, his hands wrapped around my chest. " You look ravishing, baby. "

I turned around to face him. I cupped his face and our lips met for a passionate kiss.

Kartik pinned me to the closet and With one hand he held both my hands above my head as he deepened the kiss.

He picked me up and placed me on the bed. Our clothes were discarded within minutes and I lost myself in the heated pleasure of the night as he made love to me.

We laid under the covers, our naked legs intertwined. I kept admiring my man with a soft smile who was looking at the ceiling lost in his thoughts.

He tilted his neck sideways, with a chuckle asked, " what? "

I rolled on top of him, his hands enveloped around my waist.

" I'm proud of you. " I pressed a kiss on his forehead.

Appease skated on his face and I snuggled into his bare chest.

" Kartik? " He hummed.

" Is Everything alright? "

" Yea, what makes you think otherwise. " He frowned.

" Nothing... Nothing, I just felt so. " I muttered. He tightened his grip around me, running his fingers through my tresses.

You are worried about Something kartik, I don't know what but I hope whatever is troubling you, finds a way out of your life.

" Will you be surprised if I say.... " He paused.

I popped my head up and looked at him. " say What "

" At this point in time, You are the love of my life. "

" What do you mean by that! what about the future? " I raised my brows.

" I don't know what the future holds. " he shrugged.

What the heck !

" Why would you say that! " I smacked his chest.

" Don't talk to me. " I scooted away from him but he moved too quick and turned the table. I was now pinned under him, my back lying on the soft sheets.

" You single handedly won't be able to handle my love. " I looked at him bewildered.

" you will need a little one. Many perhaps. " he whispered in a sexy voice.

My face turned crimson red in no second.

" So Mrs. Oberoi, are you okay with me having many lifelines. " he placed butterfly kisses on my ear lobe.

" Kartik " I moaned.

" I'll take it as a yes. " he pecked my lips and rolled to the side.

I pulled the covers above my head, hiding my embarassed self from him.

The room filled with his laughter.

I secretly blushed under the covers, wishing for his words to come true some day.

That Friday,

I was watching Money Heist when my phone buzzed.

Kartik.

" I miss you! " He said over the phone.

" Seriously Kartik? It's been only two hours since you left the house. "

" So can't I miss my wife! " I

" How did the meeting go? "

" Y-yeah the meeting , g- good. " He replied spontaneous.

I don't know why but nowadays Kartik isn't sharing anything related to his work or office to me. Whenever I try to initiate such talk he dodges the question or give an one liner reply.

" I want to see you now. " I could imagine him making a puppy face.

" I am watching an interesting series."

"movie night this weekend, I promise. " He placed a compensation offer.

" Such a baby! " I shook my head.

" Only for you. Pleaseeee come over!"

" I will be in your office in an hour or so. " I gave in.

" I have ordered your favourite Italian pasta but guess you will have to eat it cold. " He said.

" okay fine!! In 30 minutes. " I faked anger.

" That's better, I'll be waiting. Love you baby. " with that he ended the call.

I hurriedly ran upstairs and kept the box in the drawer of my wardrobe. I quickly got ready and grabbed my car keys.

I was waiting for the signal to turn green when he called again.

" I have got such an impatient man! " I swiped up the answer button.

" Now what? "

" I just called to inform that your pasta is here. " he told me in a sheepish voice.

" I swear to god Kartik, I am going to kill you once I reach there. " I scolded.

" Have some patience dude." I could hear Arjun's laugh in the background.

" He's right! I'm just 10 minutes away. You - - "

I brought the car to a sudden halt that caused my phone to jerk and hit the dashboard before slipping down beneath the seat.

" No no no..... " I shrieked storming out of my car.

" So Yes, I didn't go home yesterday because I didn't want to!! I am done pretending, I am done faking it. I can't do this anymore. " She felt the land under her slip away.
