Chapter 12
Beware of the Villainess!
I idiotically blinked my eyes and hurriedly scanned through my memories. Right, the novel had once mentioned it.
Ian and Jake were childhood friends. It was the reason why Jake had entered the Imperial Guard. I still remember them struggling to decide between their friendship and love. As a result of their love for Yuri, a wall gradually formed between them.
But thatâs that.
âIan. â¦â¦He keeps whining to me. Donât. Break. Up.â
As soon as Jake spat out those words rudely, my soft gaze died out.
Ian, that a*Shole had nowhere to go tell me, so he had gone to tattle-tell on his best friend and my younger brother, Jake. Without even having heard it, he probably whined something along the lines of your sister is strange, sheâs gone crazy, sheâs trying to break the engagement, stop her place. The jerkâs face flashed before my eyes and disappeared.
Then, the next second, I realized something.
Putting aside the fact that Jake had come home at Ianâs request, the person Jake had come to request was not me.
He had come to find the Duke.
As soon as he entered the sitting room, he saw the Duke and looked at me with a gaze that said âwhy are you here, dieâ. Without a doubt the servants had said that the Duke was doing something weird at the sitting room â having a conversation with me â and that was where he would be.
Thus, Jake hadnât come to convince me but came to tell the person who had authority over me. To say âdonât let her say anything about breaking the engagementâ.
Because Melissa couldnât rebel against her fatherâs orders, and the Duke couldnât reject his sonâs request. And coincidentally I was in the same place as the Duke, so he had just told me.
Thisâ¦â¦.
âYouâre a worse bastard than I thought?â
â?â
At my honest comment that I had unconsciously spat out, both the Duke and Jakeâs eyes widened.
However, I wasnât going to quit here. My switch had been turned on.
âYou, Jake. What are you to tell me whether I can break my engagement or not? Stop interfering with the relationship between Ian and I. What kind of authority do you think you have?â
My tone of voice was extremely warm and calm, but the words that had been spoken were those that Jake had never heard from his sister ever since heâd been born. It was because, for Jake, his sister was childish, limitlessly pathetic, and a figure he could criticize freely.
âAct moderately before I end up pulling out all of your hair. What, did Ian ask you to fix your sisterâs sanity? And you crawl into the house that you always say you hate to help him? If you hate this place, just leave. Stop blaming others when you just want to spend time outside because of puberty.â
âI had assumed not, but youâve really gone crazy.â
Jake said arrogantly with an expression that said he hated me even more than before.
However, seeing as those blue eyes were trembling like crazy, he was flustered without a doubt.
I narrowed my eyes and crossed my legs.
âI know that you dislike me. But I donât like you either. Do you think I was silent all this time because I liked you? I was just tolerating you on the basis of being family, but this thing keeps crossing the line and rudely crawling up to me. Hey, you donât treat me like your older sister. Iâm not going to treat you like my younger brother either. At the very least, a bastard who acts as cowardly as you isnât my younger brother.â
Flinch.
As soon as I glared at him, Jake started to tremble.
So he knew that it was cowardly to tell the Duke on me.
âAnd your Highness, the Duke.â
I turned my head and looked at the Duke. As the swordpoint suddenly turned towards him, the Duke became flustered and dropped the coffee that he held in his hand all over his clothes. It was regrettable, but the Duke did all he could to maintain his poker face, so I ignored it.
âThatâs what I wanted to tell you today. I want to break the engagement between Crown Prince Ian and myself. I canât stand it anymore. You donât have to help me, but if you interfere then I will not sit still.â
