Takane no Hana (WN)
The third day of school life.
When the second class was over and it was time for a break, Taisho and Asahi came to me.
âNishinari, have you got used to the class?â
âNo ⦠I can barely keep up with it as usual.â
âWell, itâs not so easy to get used to.â
Asahi smiles at me who smiles bitterly.
âBy the way, Nishinari, how about after school today?I know you said before that you had to go home early, but itâs okay to have fun once in a while, right?â
I answered the Taisho question with a smile.
âIâm free today, so it should be okay.â
âGreat!â
As a result of discussions with Shizune-san the other day, I can do my business after school as long as I report to her in the morning. Iâll report to Shizune before lunchtime.
âDoes Nishinari want to go somewhere? If not, we will decide on our own.â
âThatâs right ⦠itâs a good idea, so Iâll leave it to you.â
I donât know much about where the students of this school will kill time after school, so I decided to leave it to them so that I wouldnât get ripped off.
Taisho and Asahi looked at each other and said.
âWhat should we do, Taisho-kun? We canât go abroad because itâs a day trip, right?â
âTaiwan is only three hours away, but even if we just go to â¦â¦ for dinner and go home, we might have to cross the day. I think itâs better to stay in Japan.â
âAh, what about Kyoto? Kyoto bamboo shoots are delicious at this time of year.â
âKyoto? Then I know a good store.â
I was drenched in cold sweat as I listened to the two of them casually discussing â¦â¦.
Thatâs right. I was right. I forgot. These two were also bourgeois.( definition bourgeois: belonging to or typical of the middle class (= a social group between the rich and the poor) especially in supporting existing customs and values, or in having a strong interest in money and possessions)
âIâm not sure what to say. Even though I have an open schedule, I have to be back by nightfall, so if possible, please be close by. â¦â¦â
âI see. Well, then weâd better not go far.â
Taisho nods.
If I didnât stop talking, would I have been heading to Kyoto after school â¦?
âHow about a cafe in the academy? There are quite a lot of products, so itâs just the right place to talk.â
âAh, maybe it âs okay.â
âIâm sure itâs a good idea.â Next to Taisho, who agreed, tilted his head.
âThe school has several cafes for tea parties. Some of them are quite authentic, but since itâs on campus, no dress code is required, and they are popular among the students.â
âI didnât know that â¦â¦.â
â However, if we were to go to a real restaurant, we would have to pay attention to manners.
Iâve had some manners training from Shizune-san, but Iâm still nervous.
âBut the purpose of this meeting is to deepen our friendship, so itâs better to go somewhere where we can talk casually. The café next to the cafeteria is fine, right?â
âI guess so.â
Asahi agrees with the Taisho proposal.
I thanked the Taisho inwardly. Iâm glad I didnât go to a full-fledged restaurant.
âBut it may be a little lonely to have only three people.â
âThatâs right ~. I hope we can add a few more people.â
Taisho and Asahi say.
âNishinari, can you call someone else who we can invite?â
âThatâs right ⦠Iâll think about it for a moment.â
â
lunch break.
I was eating lunch on the roof with Hinako.
âItsuki ⦠next, kelpâ
âYes Yesâ
I pick kelp from the lunch box with chopsticks and bring it to Hinakoâs mouth.
âMmm ⦠itâs deliciousâ
No, itâs really delicious.
As expected, the daughter of the Konohana family.
âWell ⦠why donât you eat at least a meal yourself?â
âNo â¦â
âBeing able to act means that you can eat by yourself if you feel like it, right?â
âWork abandonment, hantai.â (definition for hantai here)
Itâs hard to argue with that.
While Hinako was chewing, I switched chopsticks and ate my own lunch.
â⦠Itsukiâ
âHmm?â
âAre you going to â¦â¦ have fun today?â
âNo, Iâm just going to a cafe with my classmates. â¦â¦â
âI will go tooâ
Hinako said in a matter-of-fact tone.
âIf Itsuki goes, I will go tooâ
âThatâs ⦠I donât mind, but did you get permission from Shizune-san?â
â⦠Iâll get it nowâ
With that said, Hinako took out her smartphone from her pocket.
Hinako operates her smartphone in an unfamiliar manner and puts it to her ear.
âMiss? What can I do for you?â
Shizune-sanâs voice was audible to me as Hinako was calling from right beside me..
âI want to go to a tea party. With Itsuki.â
â⦠I understand. Originally, I was planning to move according to Itsukiâs schedule today, so it doesnât matter if the lady participates. â
It was easier than I expected to get permission.
Just like me, Hinako is suspicious of too much socializing. It seems that Hinako has already assumed, to some extent, that I will have plans after school.
âBut, Miss. Are you sure? I think youâre getting close to your limit. â¦â¦â
ââ¦â¦okayâ
At the end, I heard an unclear exchange, but Hinako immediately hung up.
Putting her phone in her pocket, Hinako looked at me.
âWell, thatâs it. â¦â¦, please.â
âOkay. By the way, so far the members are Taisho and Asahi-san, do you know them?
âI know the names â¦â¦.â
In an ambiguous reply, I frown.
Will the conversation bounce with someone, who only knows your name?
âThat ⦠you donât have to force yourself to participate? Itâs really just a way to socialize, and if you donât think youâll enjoy it, you might as well not come along.â
â⦠If Itsuki goes, I will go too.â
Itâs a difficult reason to understand, but if she is willing go, thereâs no need to stop her.
After the lunch break, I return to the school building .
âSo there are four of us now â¦â
The four of us participating in the after-school tea party were me, Taisho-san, Asahi-san and Hinako. I was thinking about who else I could invite to the party, and then one person came to mind.
âYou said you wanted to make friends, so I thought Iâd â¦â¦ invite you.
I went to the girl who was clumsy and lonely.
