Chapter 5

THREE

Stranded Bickers | ✔

❝Mein ne tum se shadi he kyun ki?❞

The rain fell with the force of a waterfall while the couple sat in the shelter of some rocks which had space under them to hide. But the unfortunate part was that the space was a little too small for two people and they were practically glued together in there.

“Can you move over a bit?” Ifrah said in an irritated voice and nudged her husband's knee with her own. Aayan threw her a glare from the corner of his eyes.

“Show me even a millimeter of space and I will.” he gritted out, forcing her to huff out a breath. She wrapped her arms around her knees but her left elbow accidentally jammed into Aayan's side and he cursed out loud.

“What the fück is your problem?!”

“Don't scream in my ear, jahil, and don't curse!” she replied angrily and earned a jab in her side from her husband which made her hiss out in pain.

Were his elbows made of steel or something?!

“What the fudge?!” she exclaimed before jamming her elbow more forcefully in his ribs and he groaned in response, but reacted in the same manner.

The jabs went on for some moments before Ifrah let out an angry shriek which made Aayan cup his ears in cringe.

“Stop this nonsense!” she yelled.

“You stop first, you stupid banshee!” Aayan yelled back.

Ifrah snapped her mouth shut and closed her eyes to ignore the rage building up inside her. The reason she had to be stuck under a rock was him. If he hadn't been a psycho that he is, and listened to her when she tried to stop him from crossing the line, they wouldn't have gotten lost.

No. They were not lost. She can't think that negatively.

Both of them sat quietly while Ifrah was feeling very uncomfortable due to his body heat reaching her and she muttered annoyingly to herself; “Mein ne tum se shadi he kyun ki?” (Why did I even marry you?)

“Ask that from your mother.” Aayan shot back, making her eyes go wide and she turned her head to give his (very attractive) side profile a glare.

“What did you just say? My mother?” she scoffed out a laugh. “Your mother was the one who kept pressuring me to get married to her idiot of a son.”

This time Aayan faced her with a murderous look on his face, and Ifrah really got scared for a second but didn't let it reach her head.

“We both know why we got married so let's not argue about that, good?” he spat out lowly, and the chestnut haired girl whipped her head in other direction.

He was right. They both knew the reason behind their marriage; it was the friendship between their parents. Ifrah vowed to herself that she will never make any best friends after she had heard the news that her love life was already decided by her parents. She had cried for two hours straight, because the idea of tying the knot with Aayan was that horrible. Ifrah had never felt any kind of hate for people, even if they stabbed her in the back. But Aayan Abdullah was an exception.

She loathed him with all her heart.

He was rude, irresponsible, obnoxious, cocky, arrogant and most of all, he was an expert in breaking hearts.

It seemed like using girls was a part of his second nature, and Ifrah Raheem had been on the receiving end of his playboy activities once during her teenage days; after which she had decided to despise him for the rest of her life. He didn't deserve her sympathy or any other pleasant emotions.

After some while, which felt like forever to them, the rain stopped but the clouds were still looming over the island. The wind had picked up speed too; like the nature was promising them for another heavy rainfall after a break. They both got out from under the rocks and dusted off their clothes which had been smudged with mud, and looked around to find the way out.

Funny, it looked like the rain had totally changed the picture of the forest.

Aayan bit his lip and turned three-sixty degrees on his spot to look for a way and they heard the familiar sound of the liveaboard horn. The couple gave each other a look before Ifrah said;

“We can get out of here by following the sound of that horn.”

She didn't wait for his response and ran in the direction of the voice. The caramel eyed man scoffed but followed after her with a leisured pace; he was in no hurry at all. Ifrah disappeared from his sight after some seconds and suddenly he heard her loud shriek.

Aayan's heart stopped beating when he heard her cry while his eyes turned wide before he sprinted in the direction of her yell. He came out in a small clearing but did a double take when he realized that it was actually an edge of a cliff.

Oh shït.

“Ifrah?!” he called out in panic and heard her cry in return.

“I'm here!”

It had came from the edge and Aayan felt his heart drop to his stomach. He ran over there to see her lying still on the steep ground while grabbing onto a branch which was protruding from the soil. He hastily shook off his backpack before crouching near the edge.

“Oh fück, are you okay?” he asked breathlessly.

“Okay? I'm feeling freaking fantastic being stuck here and enjoying the weather! What about you?” she stated sarcastically before; “I'm gonna die and you ask me if I'm doing okay, you brain dead insaan!”

Aayan clenched his teeth but grabbed her hand which was holding the branch none the less. “I'm gonna pull you up.” he informed her.

“No!” she yelled, startling him.

“Why the fück not?!”

“Stop using that word!”

“Oh my God, Ifrah, it's not a time to argue over my fücking language!”

This man! Ugh.

“My camera is stuck, idiot. My neck will get scraped if you pull me.” she told him with her heart thundering in her rib cage. The cliff was very high, and it will be a very painful death if she fell from here considering the thick trees under it. Even her body will end up on some branches instead of reaching the ground.

A wave of nausea hit her at the thought and she felt dizzy all of a sudden. Her body slipped on the two-forty degree slope and Aayan's grip tightened on her hand.

“Ifrah, yaar, get a hold of yourself!” he was losing his mind while his heart beat erratically.

“I-I feel d-dizzy... ” she chocked out, making his face go pale and he lied straight on the ground to get a better hold on her.

“Shït, just... just breathe, okay? And don't look down.”

She closed her eyes and focused on her breathing as he had instructed.

“Now, pull off your camera using your other hand.” he told her cautiously while looking at her left hand which was lying numb on her side. Ifrah's eyes flew open at his statement.

“What? No! It's my favorite camera!”

“Are you fücking kidding me?! Let go of it!” Aayan's voice boomed angrily, shaking her to the core, and tears gathered in her eyes as she moved her hand to take out her camera strap from around her neck.

“Ouch!” she yelped when she moved it.

“What happened?” Aayan asked in an alert mode.

“I think I sprained my wrist... ” she replied in a hoarse voice, making the raven haired guy to work his jaw.

“Tum ne bss mujhy zaleel karna hai saari zindagi.” (You will just demean me for the rest of my life.) he ground out in annoyance but his wife kept quiet. She forced her hand to work and un-wound the strap from around her neck with some struggle before clenching her eyes shut and letting go of it. The camera was stuck in the stones on the edge and they can't get it back if they went back on the upper surface of the cliff.

It was her birthday present.

“I will pull you up on the count of three and you have to push yourself to make it easy for me, okay?” Aayan's voice reached her ears and she nodded silently, before he did as he had said.

He pulled her up with all his might and they both landed flat on the ground with him facing up and Ifrah lying on top of him with her back facing him. He quickly sat up straight and moved a little bit away when he caught her looking over the edge. He followed her gaze and his own eyes widened at the scene before him.

The liveaboard which was supposed to wait for them was freaking leaving the shore. And another worst thing were the nearly black clouds which were heading straight in the direction of the island.

“T-They are leaving without u-us... ” Ifrah's stunned voice reached his ears while his caramel eyes were glued to the ship which was floating against the strong tides.

Aayan couldn't even get himself to let out a curse due to the shock of the events which had unfolded in the short amount of time.
