chapter 24
Hate
Three months had flown by since the arrival of Aiden and Augustine, and the family of four had settled into a comfortable routine. Liam and Mark had taken to parenting like ducks to water, and their love for each other and their children had only grown stronger.
The twins were now three months old, and their little personalities were starting to shine through. Aiden, with his bright red hair and gentle soul, was a laid-back and easy-going baby. He loved to cuddle and would often fall asleep in Mark's arms.
Augustine, on the other hand, was a feisty little thing. He had a mop of dark hair and a mischievous glint in his eye. He loved to play and would often giggle and coo when Liam played peek-a-boo with him.
Liam and Mark had learned to navigate the challenges of parenting twins, and they had developed a system that worked for them. They took turns feeding, changing, and soothing the babies, and they had even started to enjoy the sleep-deprived haze that came with having newborns.
They sat on the couch, surrounded by diapers, toys, and baby blankets, Liam turned to Mark and smiled. "You know, I never thought I'd say this, but I'm actually enjoying this whole parenting thing."
Mark chuckled and pulled Liam into a hug. "I know exactly what you mean," he said. "It's chaotic and exhausting, but it's also the most rewarding thing I've ever done."
They hugged and the twins began to fuss Liam and Mark laughed. "I think someone needs a diaper change," Liam said, standing up to tend to the babies.
Mark smiled and followed him, ready to face whatever challenges came their way as a family of four.
Liam stood in the doorway, his eyes widening in shock as he took in the scene before him. The kitchen was covered in a fine layer of flour, and Augustine was standing in the middle of it all, his little face and clothes covered in white powder.
Mark was slumped over on the couch, fast asleep, and Aiden was clinging to Liam's leg, looking up at him with big, round eyes.
Liam couldn't help but laugh at the sight before him. "Mark, you were supposed to be watching him!" he exclaimed, shaking his head.
Mark slowly came to, rubbing his eyes and looking around in confusion. "What...what happened?" he stammered.
Liam gestured to the flour-covered kitchen. "Augustine happened," he said, chuckling.
Mark groaned, getting to his feet and surveying the mess. "I'm so sorry, Liam. I guess I dozed off for a second."
Liam smiled and put a hand on Mark's shoulder. "It's okay, I know Augustine can be a handful. But maybe next time we can find a way to keep him occupied while you're watching him."
Mark nodded, looking relieved. "Yeah, that's a good idea. I don't know how you do it, Liam. You're always so patient with him."
Liam smiled and shook his head. "I'm not always patient, trust me. But I love him to death, and I know he's just being his usual stubborn self."
As they spoke, Augustine was busy making a mess, pouring flour all over the kitchen counter and floor. Aiden, on the other hand, was clinging to Liam's leg, looking up at him with big, round eyes.
Liam laughed and scooped up Aiden, cuddling him close. "I think someone needs a bath," he said, smiling at Mark.
Mark nodded, smiling back. "And someone else needs a time-out," he added, looking at Augustine.
Together, the two dads worked to clean up the mess and get their little family back on track. It wasn't always easy, but they loved each other, and they loved their two little boys, no matter how much chaos they brought into their lives.
