Chapter 2: The Forensic Doctor
Euthanasia: Spare Me Your Mercy volume 2
One month ago.
Bunnakit tried his best to tell the lady that this was a place full of complicated murder cases and was considered a nightmare for forensic work,.but Dr. Supapohn paid him no attention.
"Rin, do you think you can handle it?"
Bunnakit asked the doctor with a worried expression on his face as the two met at a restaurant in a shopping centre in central Bangkok. It had been a month before she started her job as Bunnakit's replacement.
Rin, or Dr. Supapohn Duangnet, was a newly graduated forensic doctor.
He looked at Dr. Bunnakit with piercing eyes. Just by looking at her , you could tell how sure of herself she was. She was dressed in a black blouse and a pair of grey pants and looked ready for action. She wiggled her feet as she crossed her legs. The red heels reflected the light of the night.
"I know it's a tough place. If even someone as talented as you can't stay, how can a little girl like me have a chance?"
The doctor looked at Bunnakit,.peach lips smiling softly,
"Bunn, you don't need to worry about me. I can take care of myself. You know that."
The young man sighed.
"Government work is not what you imagined."
"I won't know if I never try."
Rin cut the steak and ate it."
"It's not just that, Rin.
There you will find yourself involved in terrifying things that you can't imagine."
Bunnakit put down the knife and fork and remembered the situation he encountered.
"The police, the contacts, the politicians, the dark power.....they even threatened to kill me.
They kidnapped me. This was followed by a case of murder in the hospital and murders.of terminal patients. I'm surprised that ged to get out of that. Let me ask you, honestly, why did you decide to go there as my replacement?'
The woman looked at her elder's face. She seemed immutably determined.
"You need to tell me that your reason for leaving home and working for the government at the provincial hospital was that you wanted to escape your past and you wanted to be yourself."
Bunnakit wasn't sure when he said that to the woman who is now raising her glass to sip the red wine.
If Rin didn't have the ability to read people's minds, then she must have a very good memory. Rin was born and raised in Bangkok as Bunn, which made Bunnakit unsure of his reason for taking his position.
"And why do you mention my reason?"
"I'm saying that my reason is opposite to yours.
I'm not running away. I'm going to look for something."
He placed his wine glass on the table and stared at Bunnakit.
"Something happened and I have to find the answer myself."
Without needing further details, Bunnakit could immediately sense that she was going to be involved in something dangerous.
"Rin....."
"Bunn, you don't need to worry about me. Even if I die, if I get my answer....." The doctor's sharp eyes looked determinedly at Bunnakit,
"It will be worth it."
After observing the target for a while, Inspector Em waves to the police officers watching from the other side to continue the mission. The Inspector looked at the young man I a black leather jacket and cap how was speaking to the target in such a friendly manner as if they had way for about an hour before the warmth of the sun arrived. Whether the undercover operation to arrest an important subordinate of a major drug mafia would be a success or not would be known a fer moments later.
Sub-lieutinent Arsha, also known as the 'Thousand-Eyed Detective' or lieutenant Kong , was theam who wore a cap and befriended the target. This was a rare talent.
Lieutenant Kong was second to none when it came to acting as a cop as could go from place to place like a ghost.
At first glance, people would think he was just a small-time drug dealer.
Inspector Em touched his gun Holster as he hid in the dark corner of the warehouse. He was ready to cover Lieutenant Kong as soon as something unexpected happened.
"Hey! Brother Somkid. This small payment is not enough to feed my wife," Kong shook the stack of bills.
"My husband may be small, but he eats a lot. I have distributed your products to everyone in the main district, can't I have a little more?"
"Don't joke with me. If my boyfriend didn't guarantee that I can trust you, I would have shot you dead by now," a man said with a hoarse voice.
"My boss only gave this, and I will give thia to you. You can sell the product with some profits on your own if you want."
"Of course, I can be trusted," Lieutenant Kong laughed out loud.
"People can't afford to eat anything. Politics sucks, economics sucks, we should atleast keep the price of method down."
Now, Em raised his hand to signal to the other police officers, who rushed to make as arrest.
"Hey!" Kong looked surprised and truned to look at the police entering in masses.
"Damm! Somkid, you're a snitch!"
"No!" Somskid growled, losing his temper. He looked at the police officers surrounding him and moved his hand back for the gun he had tucked in the h of his pants.
"Uh oh," Kong lunged to grab his shoulder and twisted Somkid's arm back so hard that he screamed loudly. Somkid's hand weakened and he finally let go of the weapon. Kon kicked him in the crook of his knees tp make him fall and tied both of his arms behind his back. He sat comfortably on it.
"I told you to give me a little more pension for my husband."
After taking the suspect away in a car, Inspector Em approached his colleagueon a toothpick while watching the sun rise over the top of the Longan tree. The young Inspector had worked with this person long enough to know his madness well. The tall police man crossed his arm and said,
"I wonder how you can still be alive to this day?"
Lieutenant Kong raised hia eyesbrows at Em and replied,
"Maybe I have committed too many sins, so God wanted me alive for a long time to pay my karma."
Em smiled.
"Thank you for your help in this case. I know that no one is better than you at doing this."
"I won't play snitch anymore.
I'm also afraid of death. If my husband knows that I do this instead of asking younger people to do it, he will scold me to death. If I really become disabled, you have to take care of me."
Husband too."
Checking everything for sure. Kong didn't mean to hide it anyway, the husband he often talked about was the nurse at the provincial hospital.
They met and formed a relationship when Lieutenant Kong investigated Dr. Somsak's case. Kong threw the toothpick into the bush ams walked over to talk to the senior police officer:
"By the way, I heard the news. Inspector, you are okay, right?"
Em's eyes flickered for a moment before returning to normal.
"What can I hide from you?"
"There are no secret in the world."
The young Lieutenant patted on the arm and said,
"Getting married again at 35 isn't bad, Inspector. It's time to look for a new lover."
"Why do we have to talk about this? Let's go back."
Em took exactly three steps away from the Lieutenant when he heard a loud curse coming from thenparked police car, followed by a sound that made the blood run cold in his body.
'Bang!"
The two police officers grabbed their weapons from their holsters and ran toward the direction of the sound.
"What the hell happened?!"
The two shots were later heard o Em had to run to hide behind a large tree.
Em slowly turned to look and assess the situation. Three police officers used the police cruiser as cover. The young Inspector had not yet seen anyone injured.
"The shot were heard from the opposite side, from the forest!"
Kong, who was hiding behind the warehouse pillar, shouted.
"There were people watching us too."
Em waited for many minutes to see how the situation would develop. The gunshots stopped and were replaced by a police officer shouting,
"Somkid was shot!"
"Damm. Did someone comes to silence him here?"
Lieutenant Kong growled,
"Inspector, I'll run to the care, covere."
Em nodded ashis eagle eyes searched for things that could be dangerous as Kongnran towards the car where Somkid was. He violently opened the door. Somkid's bloody body fell from the car to the ground and blood gushed from the hole in his skull. His eyes were lifeless.
He wasn't breathing anymore.
Since the situation was still too dangerous to try to resuscitation the person who was shot or call medical professionals and risk them with shooters who couldn't be caught, police officers waited almost an hour to be sure the area was safe afterward because of the last attack.
A shot was heard.
At that time, the morning sun was shining brightly and forensic agents began searching for bullet casing tte other evidence that may have been at the crime scene. The sound of the hospital van's wheel drew Em's attention from the person she was talking to, Pol. Major Wasan. The inspector gestured in his direction of the approaching van and said, "Coroner."
Em exhaled through his mouth when he knew who had came.
"The new medical examiner."
"Yes, the new medical examiner,"
Wasan frownrd as he looked at Em's face.
"You've met the doctor before."
"The more I get to know her, the more I want Fr. Bunnakit to come back."
Em crossed his arms and looked at the person who got out of the truck. The forensic personnel who came down was Anan, who Em was already familiar with, but the person who followed Anan attracted everyones attention. When the red flat shoes got off the car, all the police officers gasped.
The forensic doctor's face was wonderfully attractive with her long, wavy hair tied back in a ponytail. She was wearing a white shirt, long black pants and a forensic vest.
"Although she is young, she is very good forensic doctor."
Wasan patted Em on the back with the folder in his hand.
"You're just not used to working with a woman, Em,"
Wasan said before walking towards Dr. Supapohn,
"Doctor, I will take him to see the body of the deceased."
The young woman looked at the body lying in a strange position. One leg of the corpse was still in the car while the disy ad head were on the rocky ground. He had both hands cuffed and his head was submerged in the pool of blood that was beginning to clot.
Rin received a bag from Anan, put gloves on both hands and crouched down looking at the corpse with a normal expression on his face and eyes. It was like I was looking at a rock or dirt. He moved his fingers and arma and also asked Anan to turn his body to see the color of the skin underneath.
"The body has not yet stiffened. He died no more than hours ago, which coincides with the time of the incident. He has a gunshot wound on the right temple, where the bullet exited the care gl was a shot from a distance. The cause ofhot to the head
"
Wasan wrote in the folder what the doctor said.
"The cause of death is clear, right?"
"Yes," Rin stepped so an officer could take pictures.
"No one else was hurt?"
"No," Wasan looked around.
"There was another police officer in the car, but he sucked in time, so the bullet only grazed him."
"Good." The young woman took off her bloody gloves and stared at the corpse for a while before she felt that someone was staring at her too.
She turned and found a tall figure standing next to him.
"I was in the incident. It's outrageous around here, doctor," Em said out of nowhere.
"You would take unnecessary risks by staying here. I myself don't even know when I will be shot dead."
Her piercing eyes looked at the police man who seemed to be starting a conversation on an unpleasant topic.
"Well, you're not dead yet."
The police man rubbed hianchest and said, " I don't know which would be more painful, the knife you used to cut the body or your words."
"I can't say for sure, but if you want to try the knife then you'll have to become one of my cases,"
Rin said with a slightly annoyed looked on her fqce before walking to point out where she should take the photos. Em laughed bitterly.
He turned to looked at Inspector Wasan, who was smiling because he found the situation where a big police man like Em was being talked to like that funny
"I man . You need to practice."
And then Wasan walked away too.
Black smoke emerged from the cremation chimney in th emidst of the sad atmosphere.
Gunn stood there looking at the black smoke with a serene expression, enjoying the happiness within his heart.
The last thing on the patient's mind would lead to a good future life.
He would be on the trip to see someone he loves. Wirat's daughter walked towards Gunn with her eight-year-old son.
"Doctor, thank you for coming to my father's funeral," she said sweetly to Gunn.
"I want to say goodbye to my patient for the last time," the doctor turned to smile at ily strength to get through thia difficult time."
"Thank you for taking care of my father untill the end."
"Yea, eally took care of your father untill his last breath.
The more he did it, the more he patient's last wish come true. The young doctor raised his in a farewell gesture to Wirat's family before leaving the funeral to his car. He went to the provincial returned with the palliative patients under his care.
Guntapat returned home at five o'clock sharp. He immediately smiled when he saw ether for many months, Gunn never got tired of waiting to see the face of someone he loves after work.
Today, Wasan was not in duty, so it should be one of the good night where both of them can spend their personal time together.
After parking the car at the house, Gunn walked towards the mailbox that had a letter inside. It was probably a phone bill or a credit card bill.
The letter was not addressed to anyone. It wasn't even sealed.
The doctor frowned, quickly opened the envelope and took out the paper it contained.
The message written on it made Gunn feel as if cold water had been poured on him from head to toe. It was a short message written in elaborate handwriting, but it made Gunn feel like the air around him became too heavy to breathe.
"Hello, Angel of death dressed in a white."
