CHAPTER 19
SINS OF SILENCE
"Family is where life begins and love never ends."
Isla Isabelle POV
As I played with Bullet and Blaze, a sense of worry lingered in my thoughts about meeting the rest of the family. Would they like me, or would they treat me the way Ma'am and Sir did? I yearned for their love and acceptance, just like the unconditional love I received from Papa and my brother.
Lost in my thoughts, a light nudge on my hand snapped me back to the present. It was Bullet, patiently waiting for me to throw the ball so he could fetch it. His presence was a comforting reminder that I wasn't alone in this new family dynamic.
Principessa, let's go to the kitchen and eat some snacks," Gio, my brother, suggested, his voice filled with affection. As he reached down to pick me up, Blaze growled protectively at my side, startling both Gio and Me.
"Blaze, bad dog! It's not good to do that. Gio wants us to eat," I scolded Blaze gently but firmly, wanting to diffuse the situation and maintain a sense of harmony. The reprimand caused Blaze to bow his head and whimper, understanding that his behavior was not appropriate.
Seizing the opportunity to redirect their attention, I noticed Bullet returning with the ball. With confidence, I commanded both Bullet and Blaze to accompany me to the kitchen. They obediently followed, sensing the change in atmosphere and my desire to create a positive environment.
As we made our way to the kitchen, the presence of the dogs by my side filled me with a renewed sense of security. Their loyalty and obedience reassured me that, despite any reservations from others, I had allies who would stand by me.
As we entered the kitchen, my eyes widened at the sight of a beautifully arranged spread of fruits and bread on the table. It was evident that preparations were underway for the arrival of the family. Anxiety began to build within me as the reality of meeting them set in, despite them being my own flesh and blood.
Papa's voice broke through the nervous thoughts that swirled in my mind. "The family will gather here to meet Belle," he announced, further intensifying my anxiety. The thought of facing the scrutiny and judgment of my extended family made my heart race.
Adriano, ever curious, inquired, "Everyone?" Papa nodded in affirmation, explaining that even Grandma and Grandpa would be present. The revelation struck everyone with surprise, as they rarely visited Italy, despite owning multiple houses here.
Papa, interjected, "Make sure to prepare everything, and Salvatore, tighten the security when everyone arrives." The weight of the situation was palpable, and Papa reminder to ensure our safety added another layer of unease.
Papa's gaze shifted to me, his eyes filled with a mix of concern and reassurance. "They will be here tomorrow morning, and it's crucial that everyone is home when that time comes, alright?" he instructed, his words carrying a sense of urgency. He directed the maids to make the necessary preparations for our impending family gathering.
As the conversation continued, a mix of anticipation and apprehension hung in the air. The kitchen buzzed with activity as the maids hurried to ensure everything was in order. The aroma of freshly baked bread mingled with the anticipation that filled the room, creating an atmosphere that was both enticing and nerve-wracking.
In the midst of it all, I couldn't help but feel a sense of vulnerability. The thought of being scrutinized by family members who were relative strangers to me evoked a blend of fear and longing. Would they accept me, love me, and see beyond the scars of my past? Or would I be met with judgment and rejection, adding to the pain I had already endured?
Nevertheless, I found solace in the presence of my loyal companions, Bullet and Blaze, who remained faithfully by my side. Their comforting presence reminded me that, no matter the outcome, I had allies who would stand with me.
As the sun set, casting a warm glow over the kitchen, I mustered the courage to face the uncertain future. The next morning would bring the arrival of my extended family, and I hoped that amidst the apprehension and fear, there would also be a chance for understanding, forgiveness, and ultimately, love.
When everyone finished their meal and dispersed to their respective destinations, I found myself in the living room, accompanied by Bullet and Blaze.
It seemed as though the dogs didn't want me to leave their side, and we continued playing together. The kind gentleman who took care of the dogs outside noticed our bond and offered me some toys to keep them entertained.
After a while, exhaustion began to take its toll, and I decided to seek answers about the upcoming family gathering. Bubba, my older brother, often had the answers I sought. With determination, I made my way up the stairs towards his office, eager to find him.
However, upon reaching his door, I noticed that he was engaged in a conversation with someone else. Not wanting to interrupt, I quietly sought out another person who could provide the information I desired.
Lulu, came to mind. I knew he had a kind heart and was always willing to help. As I made my way towards his room, I found him lying on his bed, engrossed in his phone. I gently knocked on the door, catching his attention. With a welcoming smile, he invited me in, and I took a seat on his bed, ready to ask my questions.
"Lulu, can you tell me more about our family?" I inquired, my voice filled with curiosity and a hint of uncertainty. I trusted that he would provide the insights I sought, as he had always been approachable and understanding.
Lulu set his phone aside and turned his attention fully towards me. He exuded a calm and patient demeanor, which immediately put me at ease. I felt safe opening up to him, knowing he would provide the information and reassurance I needed.
"Of course, Principessa," Lulu responded, using the endearing term for me. "What would you like to know about our family?"
I took a moment to gather my thoughts before speaking. "Well, I don't know much about them. Papa said they will be here tomorrow, but I'm nervous. Can you tell me what they're like? Will they like me?" My voice held a mixture of hope and apprehension, as I awaited Lulu's response.
Lulu's gaze softened, reflecting a deep understanding of my concerns. He reached out and gently placed a reassuring hand on my shoulder. "I understand why you may feel nervous, but please remember that family is a source of love and support. They may be meeting you for the first time, but I'm certain they will see the wonderful person you are. Just be yourself, and let your kind heart shine."
As I sat on Lulu's bed, my curiosity bubbling over, I couldn't help but bombard him with questions about the family I was about to meet. I hoped he wouldn't grow annoyed with my incessant inquiries as I asked, "Lulu, who exactly is coming tomorrow? Papa mentioned they are family, but he didn't explain much to me."
Lulu's gentle smile reassured me that he was willing to share what he knew. "Do you remember the man who came earlier, Uncle Lorenzo? He is Papa's brother, and the other gentleman you saw is Caleb, his eldest sonâour cousin. Uncle Lorenzo has two younger children, William and Noah. William is an artist and has a deep love for anything related to art. Noah, on the other hand, may come across as emotionless at times, much like his older brother Caleb. And let's not forget Aunt Victoria, their mother. She is an incredible cook and has a talent for baking pastries that are absolutely delightful."
Lulu's explanations painted a picture of a family with diverse personalities and talents. The mention of Uncle Lorenzo, Caleb, William, Noah, and Aunt Victoria sparked a mix of curiosity and trepidation within me. The description of Caleb as intimidating-looking intensified my fear, making me question how I would connect with him. However, I reminded myself that appearances can be deceiving and that genuine connections could be formed even with those who may seem intimidating at first glance.
I looked into Lu-lu's eyes, feeling a mix of nervousness and anticipation. "Lu-lu, do you think they will like me?" I asked, my voice filled with vulnerability. His response was filled with kindness and assurance. "Oh, absolutely! They will adore you," he exclaimed, a gentle smile forming on his face. "You're not just pretty, but also so adorable. Anyone would be lucky to have you as part of their family."
As Lu-lu continued to share details about my extended family, I couldn't help but feel a sense of curiosity and excitement building within me. He introduced me to Uncle Benjamin, who I imagined as a strong and determined man, always striving for excellence in his athletic pursuits. His competitive spirit and unwavering dedication painted a picture of someone who embodied strength and perseverance.
Then there was Aunt Lilly, Uncle Benjamin's wife. Lu-lu described her as a talkative and vibrant personality. I could picture her animatedly sharing stories, her love for fashion shining through in every word. Her passion for design and creativity seemed infectious, and I couldn't wait to engage in conversations with her, to learn from her experiences and perhaps even share some of my own dreams.
Lu-lu went on to introduce me to Logan, the eldest son in the family. I imagined him as a responsible and mature individual, perhaps someone who could provide guidance and wisdom. Knowing that we were close in age gave me hope that we could form a bond, navigating the world together as young adults, sharing both the joys and challenges that lay ahead.
Then there was Elijah, the aspiring actor who seemed to have a way with the ladies. I envisioned him as a charismatic and confident young man, pursuing his dreams on the stage. It fascinated me to think about the stories he could share, the insights he might provide into the world of performing arts.
The mention of Liam and Thomas, the mischievous twins, brought a smile to my face. I imagined their playful antics, the laughter and chaos they brought wherever they went. Their youthful energy and sense of adventure seemed contagious, and I couldn't help but feel a sense of anticipation for the countless adventures we might embark on together.
As Lu-lu painted a vivid picture of Uncle Benjamin's family, my heart swelled with a mixture of hope and trepidation. I longed to meet each member, to forge connections and create memories that would last a lifetime. But deep down, there lingered a fear of rejection, a worry that they might not accept me as part of their tightly-knit unit.
Curiosity sparkled in my eyes as I looked at Lu-lu, wanting to know more about my grandparents. "What about Grandma and Grandpa? What are their names?" I asked, my voice filled with genuine curiosity.
Lu-lu smiled warmly and began to share details about my grandparents. "Our Grandma's name is Evelyn," he said with a twinkle in his eye. "She's a wonderful caretaker of plants, and she has a green thumb. Her love for nature and her talent in gardening always brings beauty and life to our surroundings." I imagined Grandma Evelyn tending to her vibrant garden, nurturing each plant with care and affection.
Then Lu-lu introduced me to Grandpa, whom he called Nono. As he described him, a hint of caution entered his voice. "Nono's name is Gavin," he said, "and he's a bit strict." A shiver ran down my spine as I imagined a stern figure enforcing order. "He always wants everyone to follow his rules, and he's not afraid to punish those who break them in front of him." The fear of facing punishment, like the one I had experienced before, crept into my thoughts, making me apprehensive.
Lu-lu noticed the worry on my face and hurried to reassure me. "Don't worry, Piccola Fiore," he said, using his endearing nickname for me. "They will love and accept you just like we do. Remember, they are family, and family always supports and embraces one another. You are our precious princess, and your presence holds great power and love for all of us." His words offered comfort, even if I couldn't fully comprehend their meaning. I nodded in response, feeling a slight sense of relief wash over me.
As I pondered the upcoming meeting with my grandparents, mixed emotions filled my heart. I anticipated the warmth and love that Grandma Evelyn would bring, her nurturing nature creating a safe haven for me.
However, the strictness of Grandpa Gavin left me with a touch of unease. I hoped that his desire for order and discipline wouldn't overshadow the potential for a loving relationship between us.
